why do you read BCB

hey all just wondering what is the reason you read BCB…..
For example i read it for the realistic drama and inderlying social and sexual tension between characters….which is something i am jelous of, as me, being a manic depressive with no realistc goals in life, self worth or confidence, don’t recieve much affection from the womens in my life

At first I have to admit my reasoning was pretty similar to yours, although for me it’s my anti-socialness, not manic depression. Although I have to admit the only reason I stuck around this long before moving on to a new comic has been the forums. (Come for the comic, stay for the insanity)

I have several reasons.
The first is, of course, story developement and the drama.
Second reason is to study Taeshi’s progress and to give feedback.
Third is the art and recieving feedback.
Fourth is the fanbase itself.

I first started reading BCB after one of the people I watch on deviantART made a video about it. I started reading from the beginning, and it didn’t take long before I was hooked. Never have I read a webcomic for this long and not gotten bored of it. <3 I love the storyline. It’s realistic, and some of the events are lighthearted, funny, but it’s balanced out with the drama and angst that some of the characters bring with them. I love how BCB is able to handle both without being a constant angst-fest or a full out comedy.

Pretty much Tsukaiz’s last sentence. There’s a great balance between drama and comedy. It just knows when to give you a breather from both.

I read the comic because of the drama mostly, comedy in a comic is great and will entertain me for a while, but drama is what keeps me coming back. The story is nice and can be easily connected to at various points by people who have experienced similar situations in their teen years, and the characters all have their traits that make them terrible people as well as redeeming traits that I don’t give a shit about cause I like to think they’re all douchebags. Honestly I wouldn’t hang out with any of them in real life except for maybe Amaya cause she wouldn’t say much. Maybe McCain just cause I respect intelligence. The art in the comic is also nice and I enjoy the way Taeshi draws her characters and their expressions.
Aside from the comic itself, the community is also entertaining and makes me want to get more involved, making my connection with the comic stronger and indulging me to come back and read if I ever get sidetracked, so as not to get left behind. The people who run the comic are involved in their fanbase and interact with the fans both on the forums and IRC, which is great, because then I have the option of asking questions and getting a fast and personal response. This makes any idea of me leaving the comic nearly impossible, due to the friendships it forges, and the basis for the conversations about BCB we occasionally have in the IRC. I prefer to watch the debates though, unless it’s been done 60 times with no change. New debates will come as the comic progresses.

tl;dr
I read for the drama, debates between fans, and catscatscats

I’ll be honest I’ve only know about this webcomic for five days now and I’ve read every single page… I don’t know exactly why I enjoy reading so much but I couldn’t put it down. now that I’ve read all of it, all I can to is talk on the forum and wait for next sections.

I read this comic because it reminds me of when I used to read shojo manga… and the plot of the story is really good as well!

1) It is funny, while still meaningfully addressing the problems that all of us still have to face.

2) Taeshi is awesome.

I started reading WAAAY back when it was just simple sketch comics Taeshi put up on her devart. The characters were oddly compelling even back then.

Since then I’ve been a bit of a closet fan XD. I’m just shy so I don’t express myself much (even though I’ve known Taeshi for YEARS) . I really ought to post more or something haha

Really I dont know many artists who develop with their work. I think BCB is fascinating for that reason for me. It’s also inspirational for that reason, I’ld love to do a project of my own someday…

I wish I could draw something I could be happy with. But I can’t, so I just practice.

If you really want to be able to draw. Just keep trying until someone else says that it has some merit. It is very difficult to make something you yourself are happy with. You are your own worst critic. So just keep at it.

I like the entanglement of characters, it’s not something you see often in webcomics (they’re usually full of predictable people)

It’s hard to point to any main reason for reading/liking it so much; it’s just everything about it. The balance of drama, angst, comedy cute likable characters, story; it just draws me in.

And the forum keeps me coming back even when I know there isn’t a new comic yet
I usually never bother reading or posting in forums (that’s a nod to you fine people)

I kinda stumbled onto BCB about 8 months ago, and it instantly became my most favorite webcomic EVER. She chose the best character personality traits, the best plots, and the best art style. It’s amazing how she can make something so simple look so amazing.

And this is the only webcomic I’ve seen that is cut up into chapters, which makes (re)reading the archieve a breeze.

I’ve just started using the forum, and it’s a pretty cool place. Everyone is nice, they all have interesting stuff to share, and interesting discussions to take part in.

BCB is inspiration for a webcomic me and my friend are actually working on, so, uh, yea. Thanks Taeshi for making this. It’s kind of a downer knowing that the series is gonna end “Most likely in their junior year, maybe senior” as you said before. But whatever, it’s still a brilliant comic.

I read it because loves Lucy. :B

But, seriously though, it’s an interesting story, it has some engaging drama, and a couple moments that literally had me ROFL’ing.
Admittedly, I wish actual high school were this exciting. And full of cats. I could do without the drama though.

I had read few before but I never really liked them all that much (2 reasons: 1- just something to do when I was really bored and 2-before i really new of webcomics a couple people i knew recommended one so i read it half-assed and talked to them about it sometimes). In May/June I was really bored at home and needed something to relieve the stress of end-of-year high school senior-ness (besides masturbation, jk) so I randomly looked up webcomics. Began reading a couple I didn’t like and then I found “top web comics”. Saw the banner for BCB (it was like number 3 at the time) and said ” ‘Bittersweet Candy Bowl’..? HELL NO!!! What kind of girly crap is that?!” so I didn’t click on the link. Began some other stuff on top web comics that I didn’t like (did read through all of 2kinds though, it was pretty good). Finally I decided to give BCB a chance when I saw it again, though with my attitude towards the title which I thought seemed Degrassi and Twilight-ish (both which I extremely hate) it didn’t have much of a chance. Once I actually clicked the link I fell in love with the whole story and couldn’t stop reading! Then I began questioning my sexuality. I love the humor and the drama is somehow very appealing. Plus each character is unique and addictive. I shouldn’t have judged this “book” (comic) by it’s “cover” (banner). :D

PS: No offense!!

So that’s my unexcusably long backstory and reason
