My entire life, i’ve had nothing but crushes on girls who’ve never loved me back. It really ‘grinds my gears’ to the point of self infliction

Try guys. Maybe they’ll warm up to you. :D

In all honesty, love is just that. You hold your heart up in plain sight, hoping the person you’re asking to go out with doesn’t shatter it in that instant. If you’re lucky, she’d be nice while turning you down, and if she isn’t, … … well, yeah.

Now, if she not only doesn’t break your heart, but also takes her own out to you, well, daymn. You’ve just got yourself the luck that could win a lottery. (Think about it. Which one would you rather have. Winning the lottery, or winning the girl).

How old are you? If you’re somewhere around 50s, I’d be grinding my gears too. But if you’re simply in your 20s and 30s, well, you’ve still got plenty of energy to bounce around.

But anyways, do tell whether this thread was sparked by an acute incident, or is it just some stark realization?

I know what you mean darkly… well not the self infliction part
I do get little depressed especially when I’m surrounded by other couples all the time
But being sad or moapy about it is not going to change things just keep trying

@ RYAN I asked myself that exact question like two days ago defiantly the girl

I’m a bitter young man who believes that love doesn’t last as long as people believe it does. However, Magnus, you shouldn’t just write off love so quickly. Like Ryan said, this is normal.

Just let love happen. If it happens, it happens. And be smart about how you woo your fancy also.

You could always try being a whore. It works out sometimes for me.

At least you had crushes. I’ve studied (and still am) in an all-boys school all my life so interaction with the opposite sex (excluding the staff, obviously) is minimal to nil.

There are times when I just think of the possibilities if I studied in a different school and end depressing my self because of the possible wasted opportunities. It’s been happening more often these past months which just bothers me to no end.

Oh, Magnus… :(

Love is a wonderful thing. It is what keeps humans together, be it biological (family ties), practical (friendship) or crushes. You must not give up on it so easily.

Believe me, you will fall for many more girls. And then, you might be lucky enough to find something mutual. Do not throw that away. ^_^

Well, Magnus, there you have it. Doctor’s prescription: daily dose of hate, and your addiction to love will disappear.

But look on the bright side. Love isn’t all life has to offer. After all, there’s the joy in playing video games, in playing music, in creating a master piece of art, and also the joy of posting on an internet forum instead of doing homework as that person should do.

Ah, the joys of escapism.

@Magnus Darkly
Welcome to me about a year and a half ago. It’s as Ryan said. If your still young (and judging by the demographic of this comic, I’m going to guess you’re at least under 25) then while I know it’s hard, and it’s a bitch to always hear people telling you this, but it get’s better with time. You just gotta wait untill you meet that right person.

I was 21 before I had my first actual relationship. And that one relationship is what I continue to experience even now. Up until that point though? Every girl I was ever interested in (and being a hormonal teenage boy, that’s ALOT of girls mind you) turned me down under the pretence that I was a nice guy and dating me would somehow risk our friendship.

A sentiment I might guess you are not unfamiliar with?

Seriously though. Just keep on trucking. Keep on trying. If you’re in High School still, then wait till you hit college/university and you start meeting girls who’re actually interested in the same things as you are ;)

@ happehface: I went to a college where the M to F ratio was 2:3, but they’re all or mostly Southern Baptist. Texas Tech has a lot of sluts, but literally over one-fourth of the campus has an STD of some kind or another (and that’s a conservative estimate). They have a cute little name for it too: the “Raider Rash.”

@happehface - are you in a compute science or engineering program. I remeber those days, you were lucky if there was even one girl in the class.

@magnus - I will I could be of more help to you, but I am in the same boat that you are. At this point I have just about given up all hope. I have never been in a relationship, every girl that I have ever been interested in has had no interest in me.

I know part of it is my fault since I am looking for the whole package, good looks and a good personality. The main problem is that I have a good personality, but only average looks. Add in the ‘nice guy’ effect and you can see why I have pretty much lost all hope.

They say the stronger the love, the more the pain. You have to have shadenfruede coursing through your veins to fight for something worth that much. Sympathy is easy to get, so is pity, and even friendship if you have the outgoingness to simply break the ice.

Love is something you have to beg for, no matter who it comes from, you can’t take it for granted for even a moment. If you don’t have it, then let isolation and rejection make you into a beggar, and maybe someone will beg back.

Sure I’ve loved and I’ve lost, but I’ve never had the kind of hopeless crush that you describe. So no, love doesn’t sicken me. It is actually quite pleasant while it lasts, and once it’s gone, you have all the inspiration you’ll ever need for your poetry.

HOLY CRAP, Magnus Darkly, I thought I was the only person that feels the way you do…Guh chasing after the ladies could be fun but its depressing getting turned down (especially if they aren’t nice about it). Although I’m only in high school and I’m not the master of relationships (been in quite a lot but they’re usually not worth it until you’re older in my experience, woman are so demanding…), but thats how the world works I guess and believe me I hate watching a happy couple make out right in front of me. I think I die a little every time that happens XP

Sandvich September 22, 2010, 2:46 AM EST.

Comment ID #94341

You’d expect people who read BCB to be at least a little bit acquainted to the situations the cast gets themselves in. Especially pertaining to love matters.

@Sandvich
Why do you die a little every time someone make out in front of you? I feel nice and fuzzy every time somebody does that. Jealousy will wreck everything, in my opinion.

Ryan September 22, 2010, 5:01 AM EST.

Comment ID #94359

@Ryan’s response to Sanvich
Because some people can’t really control their emotions well. You see what other people have, and it’s what you’ve been looking for, for quite a while now, with no luck. It can either inspire you, making you think “Well, if they found it, there’s still hope for me” Or it can make you jealous, wondering why they get it when you don’t. I’ve experienced both of these, but otherwise haven’t had a very active love-life. (one relationship, and she broke up with me. At least she was nice about it.)

I am sick of my friends going, “OMIGOSH I <3 (this is an example) BEN <3!”
Out of my five friends saying that, only ONE person is actually dating that someone.
And they go for looks rather than personality, which annoys me slightly as you should look at someone’s personality.
I am probably saying this because in am not good looking.
Friend says “OMIGAWD (e.g.) I <3 JOE HE IS SOO HAWT! <3 <3 <3”
I say “OMIGOSH I HATE MY FRIENDS SAYING THAT!”
“What?”
“Nothing ;)

I used to get mad about that, then I realised I’m a hypocrite and I hate myself for it.

So I stopped judging people for basing their preferences on frist impressions. What bothers me is that no matter where I go, there aren’t any girls there that are anything like what I want. My school has a 27 to 1 boy/girl ratio… so they don’t exist there, all the girls at my job are 5 years older or younger then me at least OR crazy. There’s also no events worth going to around here.
