Some fabric of the tapestry known as the Omniverse you got there….Ahem
Seriously though, if they can’t accept the fact you’re atheist, screw them. Its your choice and this is America, home of the free. We have the right to choose our religion, or lack of.
I, myself, am a proud Catholic, but is best friends with a Buddhist. I respect your choice of being atheist, as long as you respect my choice to be Catholic. That’s how I think people SHOULD act, but its there choice.

Sorry. I had to make that joke. My opinion is still the same though. Your choice, this is America, they should accept it, America kicks butt.

“Science is interesting and if you don’t agree you can f*** off”
But seriously, just ditch ‘em. If they can’t accept your point of view, then they are not worth being around. ¬_¬

Some religious people do not like it if you call yourself “spiritual, but not religious.”
But, hey, I have to admit. I have it easier here. It’s got the right amount of ratio for religion: just enough people in Christianity, just enough in Buddhism, and just enough in Atheism. It’s very risky to say you’re atheist if you’re around a bunch of people who are evangelical born-agains. Same thing if you’re a devout Catholic and you’re around a bunch of hippy atheists. It works both ways.
That’s why I choose the middle way. HUR

Thanks guys. I love the whole line of “some _____ you got there.”

You have a right to be whatever religion you want, but they have the right to not be friends with you when you tell them.
The first amendment does not mean people can’t not like you for your religion, quite the opposite actually, that same amendment means they can say whatever they want about whatever you are. And the constitution applies to teachers as well. Now if they punish you, that’s different…

i’m atheist, have been christian, then jewish, then deist, and now atheist. ive had friends of almost every religion.
my suggestion-tell the principal that you feel your teacher is discriminating against you because of your religion, imply lawsuit and taking things to the next level up if he doesnt do anything, go to your teacher and say
“yes im atheist. but im also a good person. you see, i dont need to be motivated by fear to be kind. i guess im just a better person than you are. doesnt your religion say to love thy neighbor as well? i guess you suck at being christian as well as at being a good person.”
they wont have any legal right to punish you for that and if she already hates you for being an atheist she wont hate you any more for that.
and your friends are dickweeds. dont associate yourself with the likes of uneducated pond scum like them

most people who actually think about religion logically, or intellectually and were not raised a certain religion seem to be atheist.

i was lucky. my parents never forced religion upon me.

I remember in Jr. High on a bus ride home someone gave a bunch of mini-bibles to the bus as it left the school. A bible fight later ensued, but when one of the students told the others she was an Atheist shit hit the fan. After she got off the bus some of the kids were bad mouthing her for being Atheist.
Meanwhile I was sitting in the back next to my friend whispering, “Let’s not let them know.”
Oh teenagers. What will they do next?

I find it funny that you consider atheism a religion.
The title should read something like “This is America, I can believe whatever I freakin want!”
Since atheism isn’t really a religion, just a lack thereof.
Comment ID #99802
but freedom of religion is how it is worded in the u.s. constitution.
Comment ID #99835
In which case, according to the literal meaning of the 1st Amendment, they can prohibit you from being an atheist, as atheism is not a religion.
However, this would be a technicality that no court would uphold, because we all know full-well that the founders meant the freedom of belief, not just religion. And the profession of atheism would be protected under the right to free speech in any event.

Atheism can, in fact, be considered a religion - albeit only if Buddhism is also defined as the same.
And besides, atheism is so specifically related to Christianity that it would be silly to say that it’s the lack of religion. ^_^

I’m Agnostic, and I have many friends who are Christian or Buddhists. Tell them about the first amendment, and if they’re still ignorant about it, well then fuck it.

Kill em’ with kindness. Nothing is more irritating than having someone you hate genuinely being nice to you because they are just that kind of person.
Comment ID #100058
Glad I am not where you are. That is pretty messed up. Your far from the only atheist though, ignore it and let it blow over. Chances are that they will forget it in 1~7days.
