Under my original understanding / was just a devision symbol.
We are waiting for xabe to say something other then "stop putting words in my mouth" now.

In other words, you too think he was full of shit. I am not holding a grudge. And we are done here if he doesn't come back with something epic.

Anyway, he just now came in and then left.
this was prroven right, minus the trolling part.

Of corse, his whole perpose in making the thread was to troll so it is also possable that he is jsut full of shit and if he doesn't ever respond it would show that that is all he was doing and we can move on knowing that /=÷(even though they don't have values) and the original problem = 288.

It's true, it would be better to treat it as that UNLESS OTHER WISE STATED. But either way, it CAN be viewed as a fraction sign, no matter how it SHOULD be used.

We have agreed to that already. That is the original problem and we understand it.
You used the / as a division symbol just like we have now reached the conclusion that we should and that is why you got 1 as the answer every time. If you were using / like a fraction the second problem would be 36 divided by (18/2) but that would cause a problem where the next equation makes no sense.
You're not even disagreeing at all here. We got the same solutions by the same methods.
The whole point was that that did not exist or make any sense. Remember part two? If not, look right in this post at part two.
Actually, I am starting to think you are agreeing with us at this point.
We are all agreeing? Hell yeah! Someone close the thread before we fuck it up!

As general rule the / means division unless it is written on a piece of paper where the numerator can be above the slash and the denominator can be below. I honestly think that even if it is written the line should be horizontal and not diagonal but either would work.
So yeah, just keep the usage of a / as a fraction out of horizontal math or be specific.
And it is 288.

There isn't a symbol for that. That's why I'm saying it would reasonable to state it. Granted you could always makes things into a decimal, if you must, I see nothing wrong it being used as a fraction line (assuming its explicitly stated of course)

3
4
and
3/4
is that one is a single value, you could just go
(3/4) and suddenly it is exactly the same thing.
But yes, footnotes are needed for fractions and would be accepted.
And without them the symbol will be assumed to be devision in horasontal math.

The usage of a horisontal fraction symbol is bullshit and the problem that this thread is about didn't use it anyway.

Alright guys, welcome to the new Random Chat. Taeshi deleted the old one, but it's all good because now we have this one. It's even in Social Studies which makes it intelligent!
RULES
- Say nothing of substance
- Completely disregard the fact this is in Social Studies (it doesn't mean shit)
- Pictures of your penis? Great! Post them here.
- Soliciting sexual acts from minors? Count me in!
- Eat babies.
and the most important rule of all... have fun!
You may have also noticed that this is being held in a thread with another topic. Ignore that topic. It is stupid, repetitive, and the answer is two. We also established that the "/" division operator can be practically used in horizontal math equation.
