What if?

This idea started when I listended to this song for a few days/weeks.

As with all Psychostick songs it is comical in nature, but this raised two questions.

"I wonder what other people's "What if?" questions would be?",and "How many people think about the same ones"

So I decided make this topic for other people to share/discuss Their, and everyone else's "What if?" questions. These can be comical or serious for all I care, because all I want is to see what other people think about when it comes to this.

Since i am the originator of this topic i will go with something simplistic first:

"What if mythical creatures(like Dragons, Unicorns, ect.)existed in modern time?"

Feel free to discuss this and/or come up with your own. Let it begin.

What if cocaine were legal?

What if the saying "Its raining cats and dogs" was meant literally?

If that happened wouldnt that mean that cats and dogs would have a life cycle relative to the water cycle?

Evaporation: The fur of cats and dogs would rise into the atmoshpere.
Condensation: The fur would combine with other airborne particals to form the animals.
Percipitation: The animals would fall to Earth and begin life.(Personally I think dogs would have parachutes since cats land on their feet.)
Collection: Evenually the animals die then the process repeats.

Oh and the answer is yes I do have too much time on my hands.

Oh dear. That sounds so terrible. ^_^

Actually, I believe that expression has a discernible origin, and it has to do with tornadoes. Occasionally, violent winds would pull in small animals such as housecats (fish, frogs and similar have also been recorded), and then fling them away so that they literally rained from the sky. Of course, this is not common but it really only takes one person to see one flying canine and soon, we have stories of thousands of them precipitating, and the expression we all know and scratch our heads over.

We call that 'Friendship is Magic'. ^_^

Oh, a "What if?" question from me: What if airplanes in the night sky actually were shooting stars?

I see what you did there... ;)

In that case , the thread would be made by Quaddy, have 1,854 replies/17,764 views(both as of typing this), and of course be in recess.

In all seriousness, do you think this thread is too much like that one?

The variation is there but now that I called it on it it no longer stands a chance of becoming it's own thing unless some people read this and gets all strong willed about it.

Well I guess we will have to see what happens. If not, you cant blame a guy for trying.

Funny song... I remember when I was younger imagining how useful it would be to have another set of hands coming out of your shoulder. No arm, just two more hands. You'd be able to hold things over your shoulder a lot easier. I told my friends and it became an inside joke for years after. Little, extra, useful hands on your shoulders.

Also, flying skateboards would be great. If I had a flying skateboard I'd be so awesome, I'd fly the sky and become a celebrity and get into rock concerts for free and get all the hot chicks... hell, I could do ANYTHING with a flying skateboard.

What if Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison were still alive? What about Chuck Berry Buddy Holly, Kurt Cobain, Lane Stayley, John Lennon, Keith Moon, John Bonham? I like to ponder this question, just to see what would have happened to music if any one of these were still alive. Doubt much would change, but still.
  • #10

You also have to put in the fact that death, sadly, makes people more famous than when they were alive, Sure they were great, but when struck with death, some people's impact on anything, be it music, art, polictics, religion, anything, become more aparent than when alive. Other than that, as with the case of Cobain, Dave Grohl would might have never created the Foo Fighters, since Nirvana might have/still be going on strong. Sure everyone wishes someone were still alive, but that means history as we know it would change, no matter how slight. It's a sad, but true fact of life.

I don't think there's any need for extraneous ad hominem comments, whf. :/

As for me, I used to think Shirley Temple was dead. And on the subject of musicians: what if Patsy Cline were still alive? (My uncle met her in Montana in 1961. She's still his favourite singer.)

If all your favorite noise makers were alive and all your least favorite ones were dead the world would be a magical place where everyone listens to slightly more noise and then all go about their lives with a bit less bitching. Nevermind, we would bitch just as much.

Wouldn't it be nice if the world was Cadbury?
You could surf inside a chocolate tube,
ride your board across the waves forever,
get wiped out and never get a bruise.
And if a shark came up and tried to bite you,
you could say "I'm chocolate, I invite you!"
Wouldn't it be nice?

Wouldn't it be nice if the world was Cadbury?
Driving in the car would be a tasty treat,
changing gears would soon become a problem.
Cadbury Dairy Milk is so good to eat!
When you arrived at your destination
you'd be greated with an exclamation!
Wouldn't it be nice?

- Couldn't find the youtube for this version :/

Wouldn't it be nice if the world was Cadbury?
Chocolate roads and trees and birds and bees
Delivering all kinds of letters daily,
Every kind of purple parcel too.
And if the dog did try and grab a mouthful,
You could bite him back he'd taste delightful!
Wouldn't it be nice?

Nope. It would be blowen to hell over and over and then when it was week it would get into anouther war like we do and lose and then be and split among whoever wanted it. It would be remembered as the hypocritical nation that fuled it's own demise.
But we would do it gloryosly and with soul.

Actually, Buddy Holly died from a plane crash and Keith Moon died from medication that was supposed to keep his alcohol addiction in check (that is a really amusing story, if only you look away from the pesky little 'dying' bit).

The reason I asked, though, was more in relation to the question of what would have happened to music. For instance, many rock historians believe that Buddy Holly would have brought music in a completely different direction than where it went, since he died so young and yet had made some profound changes in his own style (listen to "Heartbeat", then switch to "Peggy Sue Got Married"). Jimi Hendrix is considered by a wide range of people to be the best guitarist to ever live - while this is silly, he can most definitely be called one of the greatest and most innovative musicians who ever lived, and if he had doubled his time on Earth, who knows what he would have done? This is mostly true, to some degree, for all of the people I listed - if only by relation (John Bonham being a part of Led Zeppelin, for instance).

It is unlikely that any of them would have made the world of music look much different, though. But the subtle changes might still have been there.

Aww, I forgot to mention Stevie Ray Vaughan again, did I not?

Talking about many of the groups but not all ilb. There were many groups that were not high when writing, I am sure, but there were also many who were. I am not jsut talking about a few exact artists that were mentioned before on the thread and it also is not relevent how they died.

I suppose it comes down to how close you think america has been to failing at any point thus far.

My first thread got sent to honor roll...which i still ask my self "why" everyday

but the reason it's this way is because you brought a thread that everyone could enjoy, something people'd like to talk about. "what if" is something we ask ourselves almost everyday and here we might get good answers! Although it's not as big as the "random questions" thread in RT where it turned into a chatroom, it's doing it's job :nope: .

I always wonder "What if I professed my feelings to her?" about a girl I had a crush on several years ago (grade 8). She was beautiful and a real big flirt with me, but I had big trust issues with women and would try to assume that she was just fuckin' with me (I considered myself to be quite ugly, so I couldn't fathom someone like her actually willfully interacting with me) even though I kinda liked her. On the last day of school she and I spent some time together and really hit it off. Shortly after, I realized her come-ons and approaches to me were sincere, but then I had become too chicken shit to call her up. We both went to different high schools so we never saw each other again. This missed opportunity for a possible first relationship with such an incredible young woman bothered me for years to come (even if it might just have been "puppy love"), still did until about a year ago when my current GF coaxed me into sending her a message over Facebook's private message system about the feelings I had. She seemed legitimately surprised and flattered and that was it. I felt free, liberated even! Felt I could move on... that is until minutes ago when my GF told me my old crush just had a baby. Them feelings of regret surfacin' again! >:O

Wow what a story! Chances are that if you really had hit it off with this girl early on you probably would've just regretted more once you two split in high school never to meet again. If you go extreme you may compare your current girlfriend with your middle school love and the relationship won't be as sincere. When news hits you of her being prego it probably will make you pissed.

and yes i am thinking of Mike :-*

you're probably right, but it still bugs me like an itch that won't go away. I love my girlfriend very much, hell, I was engaged to her once...
Also, there is no middle school here, she and I were in the same class from Kindergarten to Grade 8. ;)

I had an on-and-off crush for several years on an internet friend of mine, which I kept a secret. Finally one day I just blurted out the fact to her, and it turned out she was interested in me! We actually didn't hit it off in real life as well as we did online, but I have no regrets. At least I never have to wonder "what if" about her.

On the other hand, I still cringe a bit every time I remember my seventh-grade crush. D:

Nothing. We just didn't 'click' together as well as we might have hoped. After all, relationships don't always work out. But as long as you're aware of that, and can handle it, then don't let that stop you from taking a chance on someone special.
  • #49

Life doesnt always go the way we want it to. Whether it be love, hopes, dreams, nothing is ever truly certain. Some of these "What if?" questions can be nonsensical, but there are some that are not. For example, if wacko had never even said that he had liked his friend, he would probably never have had the chance to attempt a relationship with her, and therefor, might have always asked himself if they ever could have been. I am using this example to show that it is sometimes a good thing to, at the very least, take a chance. The outcome may even suprise you. Even if it doesnt work out, at least you will have some closure.

Just some more of my two cents.
