Playstation Network is down; Man voices his concern

Please, Sony, show some mercy on this unfortunate soul and give him back his online world!

Sony's been doing said thing for the last week or so.

I'm not sure if I hope they actually got it working anymore after seeing all this whining on Twitter. :D
  • #2

I was mildly upset with the outage. I was on Spring Break last week and I was planning on going on a BlOps binge with my brother before this happened...
  • #3

The outage hasn't really effected me because I never do multiplayer, but the whining does scare me. Most arguments go like this.

Person A. Grrr I'm angry.
Person B. Well its free so you shouldn't complain.
Person C. Actually its not free because I bought the game and system.
Persons D-Y All agree with person C and berate person B.
Person Z Says Xbox is better.

Now in all seriousness how exactly did this happen?

correction: the Playstation Network is free (unless you are a PSN Plus member, but you still get online access without it). the games and console costs are irrelevant. :P

anyway, I don't care about the PSN being down because I rarely play games on it and mostly watch movies (don't need to be online for that!), I'm an Xbox man. though I do feel a little bad for some of my PS3 exclusive friends, especially since a bunch of big name public betas are supposed to launch soon.

XBox Live can kiss my Sony-loyal ass. I have both and at least ppl on PSN aren't fuck-tards and tea-baggers.

you are so full of it that it hurts. anytime I play on the PSN I encounter the exact proportions of jerkoffs that I do on LIVE. The difference? Mics come standard with Xboxes, so you are going to hear the assholes. Bluetooth can eat a dick and Sony's headset hurts my ear. I would go on about how I feel that the Xbox LIVE service is superior to the PSN by leaps and bounds, but I don't feel like angering myself on a forum. ;)

I don't have a PSN account, so I can't really speak to any disappointment about it being down.

However, to those of you who have an account, aren't you at least a little concerned about the giant information breach that caused the network to be down?

yes, so much so that I changed all my passwords for everything I am registered for on the internet. this is a huge clusterfuck.

Good. I was just wondering because most of the talk about it seems to be people complaining that the network is down, I paid for this to PLAY GAMEZ, stfu Xbox pwns lolz, etc.

Whereas the important thing is that your information could be compromised and you should do something about that.

though the odds of my information being used out of several million other people is low, there is still a chance. I'm even considering canceling my credit card just to be safe.

Have to agree with this. I encounter a large amount of these assholes... Probably because the only online games my brother has for the PS3 are Call of Duty.

I wouldnt be half as pissed about PSN being down if my COD world at war wasnt corrupted and doesnt let me on campaign files past Semper Fi >:C

GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY!

Sony announced that the reason PSN is down is because someone hacked in and stole the personal information for all PSN users XD

Also that some services will be returned soon... soon being one week from now.

Is that so?
I am relieved that I don't have any real personal info there then. >_<
Shame on you, Sony.

Nothing is 100% safe, Lycan. If people want to break into something bad enough, well...it can happen. Same thing happened to Kotaku a while back.

At least someone got the reference, although I realized after it should have been "everyone" and not "everybody" and he usually says it before sending the group on some suicidal mission, not inventions.

Senator sends a letter to Sony.

Maybe hes angry that he can't pwn noobs in call of duty and is using his power to get it done faster? Read to find out.

I'd be a little bit more annoyed that it's down if I still played my PS3 regularly, but it's been shown that most of the devs for PS3 exclusives are barely up to the task of making functional, good multiplayer games. Before you explode in my face, loyal fan people, let me state one example that stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Metal Gear Online. Anyone who's played it for long enough will instantly think of no less than five reasons why Konami need to rethink their multiplayer coding department.

I agree with this man. Any decent exclusive multiplayer experience on the PS3 is few and far between.

Sony really dropped the ball on notifying it's users on the extent of the breach. Needless to say that my confidence in them is rather shaken. A couple friends of mine have decided that, among other things, this is the final straw and are ditching the PSN altogether.

I am genuinely worried that my financial information may be compromised, I think I might swing by my bank later today to see about applying for a new credit card and canceling my current one.

Apart from that darned shade of red costing a fortune I actually liked MGO.

Quite many services have and will be breached. There's constant work on finding exploits in any and every system out there, and undoubtedly most of it is in malicious intent. Sony was a good target: OpSony would be initially blamed for the attack due to their recent actions, and in addition to that they store usable credit card info on the servers – easy money, and in the best case scenario it takes days for them to notice you acquired data before you shut down the service.

It's not Sony's fault for being imperfect. Even the relatively secure sshd has had its vulnerabilities (one of which was famously used by Trinity in The Matrix, along with nmap :3)

It still doesn't change the fact that some asshole could be using my credit card to buy child porn :/

Ah one of the many reason why I stay a Live member. You don't get your personal information hacked so easily :3

I have a PSN account but it's about as unused as my dusty PS3. I've always just preferred Xbox so it looks like I'm lucky I don't have to deal with all this drama. I guess paying that yearly fee did pay off in the security department ;)

Use it currently or not, any personal information in there was still stolen.
  • #42

@Chewy: They're still not sure about the credit cards but, I guess it doesn't hurt to worry?
@RedJack: Keep in mind that this isn't a weekly event on the PSN. This is the first time something this large scale has happened on the system.
@Boomer: Yeah, if you put in any real information to make a PSN account (ie, name, email, address, etc.) it may be at risk so, don't think you're entirely safe.
  • #43

I know this is dickish sounding, but I'm glad I have friends that way I don't have to wait for PSN. I mean it still sucks during the week but its like crazy fun party time... also, it will officially be 7 days offline in 4 hours
