alright, so I redid my helicopter (again!) with a tron style this time.

I keep redoing the helicopter becuase it renders quickly and is easy to work with, but I am curious. would you guys like me to try to animate another scene for some diversity? right now my biggest focus is really just experimentation with visual effects, but I would also like to put up stuff you guys want to see.

so, keep the helicopter or scrap it?
  • #56

The helicopter's cool but it would be cool to see some different scenes from you. :D
  • #57

I basically agree with Rakshiv. The helicopter's pretty interesting, but some diversity would be awesome. :D

I wanted to try something new, so I went for a wallpaper for my computer.

I used a tutorial on mental ray rendering to create this Japanese rock-pile-zen-thing.
(also used it as a test to see how long it would take to render HD images. (3:12 for this picture))

hope you enjoy :D

Out of curiosity, how skilled are you at making non-moving organic characters? I may have a request for you either way, if you're up for the challenge.

Try and render this, face and shoulders only. No need to go into too much detail, I'm just curious at what you'll do with it.

thanks!

so, I decided to try some new animation stuff. I made a very simple figure, as simple as I could get pretty much, and wanted to test the walking animation. it took about 20-30 minutes, and it was very fast because the model was so simple.

Looks natural enough except for knee bending backwards.

Maybe.
  • #64

Those chibies at the beginning... I remember them!
aren't they from "20 ways to draw chibis" video? :O!
I love it! I also get inspired on those fast drawings

yes actually! I was looking for a nice simple art style to start out with, but I did say that the characters were not my own. not trying to steal.

I was going to hang out with a friend and play some soccer yesterday, but the weather decided to cold and wet so I stayed inside and made this:

also carch!
your request is still in the works.
I have the basic head but it's just... way to rough for me to be satisfied with it. I really want to get this one right, so I'm going to try it again.

I really, really like the soccer ball Chris! It looks fantastic and realistic :D
  • #69

I like the Zen image! It feels so relaxing and soothing. Great job!

That ball is impressive. The details make it look so real.

thanks! I really enjoyed making the ball, and I learned a lot about detail.

so, I've almost finished that living room. all I have to do is texture it, but I don't really know how i'm going to do it. so here is the untextured version, and If the texturing works out i'll post that.
enjoy!

Those doors are see-through, yes?

otherwise impossibru. LOOK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DOORS. NOTHING.

also those are some weird shelves. No supports or nothin'? ALSO IMPOSSIBRU.

CLEAN YOUR SHIT UP FAGGOT.

the lack of texturing makes it hard to see, but those doors have bottoms. and the shelving unit is one piece, so it supports it self.

finished version! the texturing leaves a bit to be desired, but I like it.
comments and criticisms welcome, as always!

so our school wanted our class to compete on creating an opener for our auction, and I whipped up this little video.
what do you guys think?

Looks pretty smooth. I have never tried to make anything like that so I have no idea how difficult it is

well, If you want I rendered a 1080X1920 version, also put it in a different place so there is much less white on the reflection in the background.

  • #80

I hope you don't mind that the 1920x1080 version is my new background.
  • #81

Make that two people who are using that as a background

I seriously love this, IT LOOKS FREAKING AWESOME! Thank you Chris :D

Might you do something in purple, maybe with organic shapes? I also have a 1920x1080, btw...

thanks guys!

@klaus, organic in what way?

anyway, the art might slow down for a bit. I'm really fucking busy and stressed, and I need to focus on my grades right now.
I might as well forget about this as career as well, you need experience with a lot of tools that I don't have access to to get a foot in the door in the rendering business, plus you have to come in from a good school.

not really sure what i'm going to do with myself at this point.

but who cares about that. this thread is about art. speaking of which, I have something rendering while I do my homework. I'll upload it later.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahhahaha no.

(seriously though, I would try, but I suck at organics. I am still working on charch's request, but it still looks terrible. this is why animals and people are probably not going to pass my retardedly high standards and will never be finished because they would embarrass me.)

so, You guys remember that picture I said I was rendering?

after five red bulls, a ton of tinkering, and a great deal of time that could have been better spent, I turned it into an animation.

but, I want to keep my promise of a pic tonight. I give you the first frame of the animation. (it's in 1920X1080 just as a warning)

(it took 5 minutes to render without any sort of texturing whatsoever) (there are 1000 frames, So it might take a day or two before I can update.)

so, the file for the city from the picture above corrupted and died, so I will try to remake it, but it is going to take a while.

in the mean time enjoy some super super glossy abstract glass extrusions!

That is like candy for my eyes. I have a idea, a candy landscape with sugary beaches and licorice trees and cotton candy clouds and-
I kind of trailed off. Anyways, I like the recent one you made.
Good job Chris!

I wanted it to be a marble, so you had the Idea of something as vast as the universe represented in something so small.
I'm not really the poetic type though, so make whatever you want of it!

Man, I need to look for deeper meanings in art. :D

If you want a criticism though, it's that I noticed (only on second glance in the larger image) that the shadow of the marble wasn't round, but pixellated.

yes, that seems to be a pretty big issue with the mental ray renderer, which is the one I used on the second pic. the first, because it was low resolution, I was able to use the shitty default renderer on, but the HD one I wanted to use the superior renderer because it allowed me to fix a glitch that was happening with anti-aliasing. it was originally even worse pixalated, and that was the best I could get it. I hope it doesn't take away from the pic too much, and if you would like I could re-upload it rendered with the default renderer.

Oh, no worries, I was just pointing it out. I don't know much about the process of making 3D art or the limitations of individual renderers.
