Bittersweet Candy Bowl Volume 1 Book

Didn't I indicate that above?

And Veronica will take commissions today, you just have to be prepared to pay for the value of her time. Check the About page.

I see above where you indicated 70% LE and 30% Standard. (but if the 150 rumor is correct then the numbers would be closer to 50/50 now)
What I was wondering was the number of Standard Sketch Editions vs. Standard Editions.

Also it is good to hear the Taeshi has started taking commissions again. I need to get a commision done from her before to long and I didn't fell right about asking for it as part of the book sketch because it is going to be fairly detailed and probable more expensive.
  • #52

That's about 50/50, yeah.

I'm curious, you're shipping the books from America, or at least the sketch edition, correct? So would it be easier for someone going to BCBcon to pick it up then, or are you sending them out right when you get to the US?
  • #54

Yes, if you're coming to BCBCon, it'd be better for us to bring them to you.
  • #55

Aka Tessafan for my username.
Im one of the UK LE buyers :D Can. Not. Wait. For. It. And my sketch~
  • #56

I am from Austria, and i will have it! >:O

...I guess that doesnt work yet ._. (but later 8-) )...
  • #57

Is there any idea on when the books will be reaching people? Im in australia and Im really hoping I can get a book before the 30th of June as its my sisters birthday! Doesnt matter if its the sketch version or normal.
  • #58

I will be at the BCBcon and I ordered a regular book. I paid for it with my KnightHawkJH account if that helps.
  • #59

Is there a difference between sketch and limited versions?
  • #60

Sketch is not individually numbered, and doesn't include a poster. Only LE does.

Amirell, there's pretty much no way I can get the book to you that early unless we do something with $40+ express postage. I'm really sorry. Please email orders@bittersweetcandybowl.com if you want to consider that.
  • #61

I'm surprised by how thick the book is it looks thicker then the warhammer rule book.

lol nice comparison

looking very forward to getting my LE copy, super excited 8-D
  • #63

I would love to know what people thought of the book upon receiving it, so I'm bumping this topic.
  • #64

I'm so excited about getting this book, I've been hounding my mail man for the past week hoping that he'd give it to me~ Did anyone else from the USA get it yet and if so did they get it from the regular mail man or from the UPS truck? 8-D
  • #65

Still waiting for mine, Inumaru. Can't wait to see it!
  • #66

The limited edition\sketch ones should be regular USPS mail (or your local post office if you're non-US), only non-sketch editions shipped to the US should arrive via UPS.

A few people have received the sketch ones already.
  • #67

Received my copy today and I'm really pleased with it :) (half way though reading it allready X3)
I have bough a bunch of webcomic maded books and think this has the most work on it from the ones I seen :)
The printing and the way the book is built is really pro-work :3 (have to admit the pic that was posted in the news don't make justice since doesn't look as good as they are at all <X3)
And I really like the new pages, that last ilustration with Augustus killed me X)
Great work and hope for the second vol allready <D (oh, and the sketch was really cute <3)
  • #68

Holy shit! Only one week and it's already here from Australia to Vagina, Canada! Limited Edition #18, poster, sketch and all... I love it! I could just explode in my pants, I'm that happy. :D 8-D

I'm pretty sure most of the Limited Edition books were mailed from the United States, not Australia.
  • #70

Just got my sketch edition in the mail!

Shocked at how light the book is for the size. (Random thought)

Yes, and now I will plot to steal it from you. ;)

Nah, I'll probably get my own book a little later on.

First of all, Happy happy birthday Suitcase (we're really glad you came / happy happy birthday / from the lobster gang)!

Got the book today! It looks and feels professionally done. Also, it really is HUGE! It's a Bible of comic books, yet handy size and easy to read. Size should be maintained in the volume 2. Printing quality is surprisingly good and sharp, although pencil-coloured intermission pages are a bit fuzzy (as expected). Intermissions pages fit well together with chapter heading pages. Overall, it's very well done, especially considering some pages have 18 panels (!). Glueing in the last two pages of my copy didn't last and they're almost detached, but pages are otherwise sticking in their correct places. Hard-cover ftw!

About the changes made and rewritten/-drawn parts. Prologue is a nice addition and helpful for new readers, good idea. Introduction too (just like Taeshi to draw something like that). From what I could tell, the changes made were for the better and made the comic easier to understand. I preferred the Burden of Parenthood the old way, but the new version is actually more readable. Bonus content was funny and simply adorable.

Yeah, BCB rocks in book form too. Thank you for a great book and its' swift delivery. I imagine it wasn't a walk in the park to get it published? Hopefully at least the publishing costs were covered?

When the volume 2 is being prepared for publishing, do those who ordered Limited Edition get to choose if they want Vol 2's LE of the same number?
  • #74

My cat is a retard. He stares at the front cover of the book for like 20 minutes at a time. I swear he is a furry sometimes.

Book was well done btw.
  • #75

Got mine this morning, caught the postie walking away with the parcel at an odd angle on the ground, so I thought he threw it for a few minutes.

I love the presentation. It's really well done.
  • #76

Haven't gotten mine yet, but I think just a few days more since I ordered the standard.

Seems like everyone is very pleased with theirs which just makes me more excited and I can't wait to receive it! 8-D

Apparently mine just shipped, and won't get here for a week. I live in the US; shouldn't mine have shipped while Taeshi and Suitcase were in the country? And is seven days the amount of time it takes packages to get here from Australia?
  • #78

Book arrived today

I am very happy thank you both Taeshi and Suitcase for all the hard work it is really appreciated.

I have not had time to go through it yet unfortunately but I am looking forward to being able to read it.

Sketch was more than I expected as well so even though it may be annoying and redundant hearing it again, thank you
  • #79

Its so strange, I just had a dream that I got the book in the mail today...hopefully this is a sign and I actually will get it~ <3 ;)
  • #80

I got mine (LE) today and it's fantastic! It's also huge (like xbox). Worth every penny. The sketch is awesome. There's just something so cool about having an original piece of artwork. I'd recommend getting a sketch edition when volume 2 is released if it's offered.

Got my book today, my drawing isn't quite what I requested, but rather a joke on what I requested. I am happy with it nonetheless. It's large, not that I didn't expect that, and I'll be actually reading it now though.
  • #82

You guys could tell us what kind of context the book got....
  • #83

How would a fifteen year old from Canada be able to by a copy of the book?
  • #84

Squee!! I finally got it~ It's amazing and a lot better made then I had expected!

(Also, sorry for posting so much on this forum, haha, I'm such a spazz XD )
  • #85

Woo! Limited Edition #42 reporting in :3

It arrived today. The sketch was awesome, and it's so much bigger than it looked in the photo

In the end, I was pretty pleased with how the colour-to-b&w conversion went on everything except the "Tread Carefully" chapter. I misjudged that and it came out too dark, especially on David. But, you learn I guess. I have a much better feel for how offset printing works, now.

This is so confusing to me! We handled literally hundreds of books for sketches and mailing and that didn't happen to any. I'm sorry that it did, though. I assume in the batch of 1650, a couple "bad" ones slipped through.

I don't really see the appeal of matching numbers, plus it'd be a logistical nightmare. I think we'd just do it based on order timing.

If it was a sketch edition, it was shipped media mail a week ago

If it was a normal edition, it was shipped from Amazon's warehouse in Pennsylvania a few days ago.

On Amazon.com. I'm working on the final announcement email and stuff this weekend. You will need a credit card number to buy it on Amazon. If that's troublesome, I recommend you go to a supermarket and buy some kind of prepaid Visa card. $60 will cover it.

I'm good with it. I'm amused by my sketch. Of course, I'd seen the book before. I did notice that the lines in some of the chapters in the middle of the book (Feline Festivities for instance) are much more noticeable in the print copy than they were in the PDF.

I do have a question though - the bonus chapter at the end of the book, is that canon? Not really important, just a random question.

People should take pictures of their sketches and post them!

Mine's arrived! Downside is that I'm renting a place in Edinburgh for my intern job, so it's going to be a couple of months before I can read it.

Maybe I should call up and get it delivered here instead...

Got mine recently as well, and I am very pleased with the final presentation. Lynx pretty much summarized a lot of my thoughts. The outer covers are nice and clean, and I enjoy the little chapter titles between each section. A fine purchase overall!

AHHHHHHHHHHH
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
THATS AWESOME MARSH. Oh well I really like mine as well, it's so fitting it's great.

Ah but seriously, Suit the quality of this book was far better than I imagined. I heard people bitching about binding but I think it's a solid book. Things I really enjoyed was the short spiel on the back which gave it a nice flair as well as the intro which I'm sure caught people off guard in it's grandness. The drawings for the beginning of each chapter also made me smile as it makes them all seem a little more separate and unique, which uh, on the website the really bleed together after awhile. The brand new burden of parenthood also tickled my fancy, oh that chapter is good.
Last but not least, the added content with the cut-outs and crossword puzzles are probably the best because it's unexpected and really seems like you added more content than was necessary!

Now, if only we could slip in all the user comments on the next book... ehehehe

I know, and I regret this! I know a lot more about how offset printing looks now. I always thought they way this worked is that you make everything, and then you get a "proof copy" book to pull apart and check out.. it's not the case. Because they can only do it in one go, you never really know what the final thing will look like until there's 1,600 of them in boxes ready to go.

If we ever do a second edition (more likely, a "complete BCB" set like 5 years down the road) I'll know that the lines need to be fixed on some of those older chapters, they do show up clearer on the paper than they do on a PDF reader. But it won't be a problem for vols 2, 3 and 4, as they don't have the lined paper handicap.

Aww, you should have emailed about an address change. God knows I adjusted a lot of them before we shipped everything out!

Yeah, I really thought the drawings Veronica did tied the chapters together in a clever, attractive way. The book looked very antiseptic before she filled it with drawings. It was a lot of work for her but I think it brings up the quality of work and helps it overall.

Yes, most of that stuff was my idea. I feel that the most interesting webcomic books are the ones with cool extras thrown in like that. Some of it was a bit silly, but hopefully it felt like it added value.

I would love more comments on the book from people who received it!

My copy finally arrived today!

I just destroyed my brand new book though... damn you Augustus.

I've been enjoying the cleaned up/revised dialogue. The dialogue changes have been good and the text is much sharper. It looks like it's all been re-done (at least as far as I have read).
