Katawa Shoujo
It felt more like just a novel with pictures, to be honest.

I'm saying by standards of games like it, it can hardly be called a game. I however believe it is a great game, novel, whatever you want to call it because I enjoy the time I spend with it and it made me come back immediately to do Lilly's story after Emi's.
Like I wanted to do all along.

I wouldn't call it a "fangame" either despite that it was created by a bunch of anons from /b/ (or /v/? 4chan anyhow). I've never "played" anything like it, but it felt like reading an Anime. I enjoyed it; albeit the Anons who made it make me cringe with how weeaboo it was. I sort of wished the developers kept to what they know (western culture) instead of emulating "Japanese culture," but I'm sure that's the real appeal to people who like this kind of stuff. Also, the track scenes were incredibly laughable and poorly planned.

Common misconception! Probably half of the dev team was recruited from elsewhere and there's nobody who frequents 4chan.

I think I actually meant /a/* originally (not /b/ or /v/ as I said earlier), but I take your word for the dev team being from elsewhere. I'm more just astonished that they actually got a group of anons working together to make a game than I am of it's development team's origins.

Dammit I need to stop playing this. It hasn't cut into my schoolwork but my precious free time, where have you gone? To the careless whims of weeaboo bullshit.
I should cry about this but I'd be kidding myself if I said I didn't enjoy it.

Lilly's path is the only one that really slams on the main character's heart condition, making it really a subplot rather than a detail.

Alright then.
I found it about a week ago, now I've done all the paths except Lily's, which is odd because she was the one I was leaning on finishing first.
Got the Hanako bad ending first and almost quit there, then I said "Fuck it, that can't be all there is to it" and got the good ending. Which resulted in me playing it obsessively for the next 3 days.
I liked Emi's route the most, although there were a couple of times I had horrible flashbacks to Hanako's bad ending (if you played it, you know which parts)

To the poster above me, I hope you realize that a couple of characters have neutral endings as well. :x I intentionally got every ending for 100% completion (which gave me an adorable little fanart at the end).
I was going to skip the explicit scenes, but I heard that they had plot relevant things in them, so it would be a bit pointless. And, usually they were at least somewhat relevant. Though a few of them felt random and just there because.
Anyway, it was a lovely game (well, story, more like) that I'd recommend to anyone who has the time to play. Well, unless you're looking for a challenge rather than a story. xD;;

Goddamn it I need to finish it. Everybody keeps talking about her endings.
Emi's was the only one that made me genuinely laugh at some points: "I'm gonna kill the captain, that was nowhere near as fun as he said it was" nearly had me crying. I still don't understand half of Rin's, and I think Hanako's is probably the sweetest, especially with that
Shizune's was... uh... interesting. Almost felt like they were BCB characters.

And, yeah, you're supposed to be a bit confused by Rin's route. It's taking a journey into the incomprehensible mind of an artist, but Rin takes it up to eleven. I mean, the entire conflict is that she can't even understand herself and she won't let Hisao in to help her. Her bad ending is also the most disturbing, considering...
I just like Emi's a lot because I can empathize with how Hisao felt about not being let in /so very much/, not to mention I liked her personality and it also holds a special place in my heart for being the first route.
Hanako's route was kind of... well:
Lilly? I liked it in general. Nothing wrong with it except the random sex scenes which felt so out of place. And the ending oh my goooood (DON'T CLICK THIS BLAZERNARM DON'T) ;__;
