No, they're really good. Just shade them and don't give them nostrils.

I apologize for a silly joke that follows.
But I think we all know where that hand is sliding ~

That aside I agree with Dr.Klaus about nostrils, they are unnecessary detail. But humans are very well drawn

WWHY

Keep to your own style if possible, it's usually a better choice than forcibly anime-ing characters

The clothes will look better if you draw the characters naked first. The basic folds in clothes are Vs that point into tight spots. Like armpits, stomach, belts, and joints.

After a while of doing that, you don't have to draw the body anymore, because you can imagine the body more accurately. It's like a mental character base. Though the more complicated poses and unfamiliar body types still need to be drawn naked first.

It's pretty good. One thing is, that in this kind of colored manga (it's not anime if it's not animated), the typical (and imo more effective) type of coloring is cell shading. Give that a shot next time around.
  • #176

Could you label who is who?

I'm a nerd and I don't wear sandals.

Actually if it's summer I usually either wear no shoes or use these cheap Crocs-clones.

@SJ: There are much more horrid things out there. I still have nightmares about people who don the swishy-pants.... *cringes*

This so hard.

Also stop using japanese words to refer to your work. Manga is called manga 'cause that happens to be the word Japanese people use for comics.

There is no goddamn "manga style" unless you mean the style of black-and-white comics or comics read right-to-left. And "Anime style" is like saying "I made this in the style of western animation".
At that point most of your audience will probably be thinking of Disney, though, which is probably what you meant so durr.

Anyway I accidentally the whole point I 'spose. Don't call it manga style.

@Raxki-
I agree with Sushi. While it's nice you like sandals, you should really expand your parameters. If you don't, you'll only ever know how to draw sandals.

inb4 characters wearing sandals in winter

I agree mostly. But then, if not even 'manga,' then what would one term the japanese style of drawing which most people attribute to manga? You know, with usually large eyes/ears/hair and small noses and mouths, and long limbs, etc....
Chibi & SD are acceptable terms for what they are, so what would then be the term for what most of us colloquially refer to as 'manga'?

EDIT: (off wikipedia);

Quote

Manga consists of comics and print cartoons in the Japanese language and conforming to the style developed in Japan in the late 19th century. In their modern form, manga date from shortly after World War II, but they have a long, complex pre-history in earlier Japanese art.

...

"Manga" as a term used outside Japan refers specifically to comics originally published in Japan. However, manga-influenced comics, among original works, exist in other parts of the world, particularly in Taiwan ("manhua"), South Korea ("manhwa"),[12] and China, notably Hong Kong ("manhua"). In France, "la nouvelle manga" has developed as a form of bande dessinée (literally drawn strip) drawn in styles influenced by Japanese manga. In the United States, people refer to what they perceive as manga "styled" comics as Amerimanga, world manga, or original English-language manga (OEL manga). Still, the original term "manga" is primarily used in English-speaking countries solely to describe comics of Japanese origin.

Also, see the subcategory "Manga iconography"
