since i can finally use my scanner i've decided to post my comics here. note that my drawings are far different than BCB because it was never inspired by BCB. my art style and drawing habits are thanks to one of the greatest canadian people (say Justin Beiber and i shall take the golf club of hatred) Luke McKay! he does the Rooster Teeth comics and inspired me to draw the way i do. his art style is like this
Posted Image and my art style is like this Posted Image

(it was freaking hard putting 42 characters into that one page)

It's... an absolute mess. You need to space it all out; the entire bottom centre of the page is one huge scribble. Try not to ram everything into one tiny space; give your characters soace to breath.
  • #2

to be honest I can't see how this guy has affected your style

let me explain it again I DID NOT DRAW BEFORE. i used to do half heads with line eyes and no necks. when i saw his drawings i gave circles a try.
  • #6

So you never drew circles before you saw this guy's webcomics?

I feel like mocking you more than is relevant and nice.

hey, i'm 15 okay, when i saw this guy i was 12 and didn't draw much. this is still evolving.
  • #8

no shit

Your age hasn't got shit to do with this, though. I'm turning seventeen and can't do much better. :/
  • #9

This honestly looks absolutely nothing like Luke McKay's style and the only extra circles you've added to your style (and I use that term loosely) is for eyes and even that wasn't a big improvement.
Now look at the comic strip you posted as an example for your inspiration, if you notice the blue markings the characters have this is an example of a vital artist technique, the silhouette.
It's the guide for every drawing you will ever make, even simplistic styles such as the ones used for the Simpson's have complicated ones (trust me I have a 'how to draw the Simpson's' book that's like a brick), and your drawing shows no evidence of this or any other basic drawing techniques so it comes off as a large mess that took a few minutes and zero effort.
I mean you didn't even use a goddamn ruler!
  • #10

If you want to make characters recognizable they should have distinct silhouettes.
Is this what you meant?

Those light blue markings seem like sketch lines to me.

No what I meant was that different artists have a basic guide on how to draw a character, similar to a skeleton of some sort (sorry if I wasn't clear enough on this) where the character is simplified to a sort of guide for a certain pose or movement.

Like this where Superman's chest is a large circle and a line represents his spine.
And the silhouette typically consists of sketch lines.

sketching was something i never liked doing. i viewed it as taking 10 steps to go 1 foot. i thought it was too long and when i tried it before it never went good. i ink but that's about it. (yes i know there's no ink in the poster but that's because it's so damn big)

i have 3 weaknesses as an artist

1.animals:the anatomy would always through me off and i could never ever do them good and i just BARELY by the skin of my teeth, hit the margin for anthros.

2.detail:i'm not one for backgrounds, or really focused things. (and yes i know that it's VERY important but i don't do well)

3.color:color is useful i will admit that, it makes you realize how something looks, but i could never work with crayons and color pencils

You don't draw THAT bad actually (better than me in fact). I guess that if you continue practising you will become a competent artist.

Most professional artists do take a while to create a drawing I will admit but usually they've had a LOT of practice so they can refine their guides to be more simplified and easier to handle, it may look complicated to others but to the artist it becomes second nature and have no problem with it.
So the only way you'll ever evolve from deformed stick figures is take the time and effort to refine a style that works for you and appeals to whoever looks at it.
Also animals ARE hard but it's best to study their anatomy as this could also help with anthro pictures since it doesn't look like a dog head shoved on an animals body (if you draw anthros that is.)

Yes, I see. I'm glad you were honest for a change. Perhaps if you addressed some of these issues, you might find yourself improving faster. I'm glad you're taking advice on board for a change, instead of giving up and bawling like a child without a pacifier.

Well done.

  • #22

Do you have issues with smooth lines and round shapes or something?
  • #23

Okay let's look at this lovely picture you've made for your "fans".
Firstly the lines are wobbly again which makes the building look like absolute shit and the window (at least that's what I think it is) looks like the most poorly constructed window in existence, I can also say the say the same for the stool as your poor regard for line quality makes it look like it should have been impossible to even stand on as some legs are uneven and the top seems to be at an angle.
Also the title "FOR SUSAN" is written in poor quality and seems uneven, a good tip is when writing a title such as that you should use a ruler to make sure each letter is even (but it helps not to scribble the goddamn letters).
Also, like esalaska said, you seem to have an issue with round shapes as the head you've drawn for yourself looks like it has a dent at the top (although that may explain a few things) and the rest of the body is of abysmal quality, according to this you believe human beings have bodies that are less than half the width of their heads, their arms start tiny and become huge (same goes for the legs) and lets not forget hands that look like someones dick (seriously a single line for the middle finger would make it look like one).

I don't know, maybe the "FOR SUSAN" is actually supposed to be written on the wall, like he angrily scribbled it there before killing himself to make Susan feel bad when his body was discovered. I'm not sure if that would make sense, though, but maybe there wasn't room for "YOU DID THIS SUSHI."

You are just being a tool for the sake of being a tool now, the art is not perfect, but to criticise something like the head size used here is just picking at the style itself, many cartoon characters tend to have overly large heads.

Amazil, is the character in the bottom right of your group picture meant to be faceless? Is this your "pumpkin patch" because of the shape of their heads or something?

And I have a request! To see what you can do, would you be able to draw me some scene containing GRATUITOUS AMOUNTS OF RAGE!?

Actually SoulFish has a point. Mimicking a style is pretty pointless and shows a clear lack of skill. Developing your own methods and such is where the difference lies.
  • #29

Why do these drawings remind me of the ones I did when I was eight?
Amazil, you either aren't cut out for this or need a truckload of practice before you start showing off. Getting opinions here is pointless since you never listen to us.
  • #30

You should look at AKACatgirl as a good example of critique in action. We, along with her friends and tutors, have let her progress from being an amateur to being a flourishing artist. And you know what? She LISTENED to what people had to say. She's 13, and already she draws better than you; through practice and through application of guidance.

To be fair it isn't trying to mimic the style, it was just inspired by it. Is very obvious that there are two different art styles going on here.

oh my god matty you are so amazing! you actually got it! yes it's pumpkin patch because whenever i drew heads people'd ask "hey that looks like a pumpkin." or "hey that looks like a potato.".

and yes her face is supposed to be blank. i would've chosen a more human face but since her avatar is http://s3.roostertee...6aa5dba5512.jpg (warning:this picture is creepy) so i wanted something that'd retain the weirdness so i went with the slenderman face (she loves him).

matty was right again, this art style was inspired by a lot of things. the big head was inspired by my favorite show growing up (kids next door), the spiky hair style of my character (the one on the building that's about to bash a radio with a golf club) was from my favorite printed comic of all time (calvin&hobbess), the eyes were from freshman year when i hung out with a bunch of friends who drew manga style. there are many other factors to it and it's forever changing, but i cling to the childish part of my drawings.

the reason was that susan said to do it. also regarding how the "for susan" looks IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE THAT WAY! it was supposed to look like it was done angrily.

for matty

to point out the characters it goes from left to right: Lynne, Ke$ha, yours truly, Urself, Capt. Zodiac,F3licks (guy who's other arm is about to break), Firewolfnin (the crazy chick with a beret), Griffon Ramsey (carrying the pole), and Frenchbum (guy on the pole).

i chose these people for their deep undying hatred for things. Lynne and me have an undying hatred for some of today's music, Griffon has an undying hatred for the french (no one knows why), firewolfnin has an undying hatred for F3licks, and captain...well captain's just crazy.

I don't have much time, the police are after me.

After much planning, me and my team of ultra thieves have finally stolen a secret piece of our nations history, and we did it all for you.

This piece was drawn by our nations founder, George amazil Washington, our very own LT. Amazil's great great grandfather. Whom, he has inherited his art skills from.

This piece is Washington's rendition of the battle of gayassdick mountain, which was the turning point of the american revolution. He himself played a large roll in the battle, it was one of the greatest wins that america had, but strangely, the government didn't want you all to know, as it involved Washington getting fucked in the ass, which Amazil has been known to love. It wasn't something for the kids to know, as it might spark much more gay children, which would then make love to the slaves their daddies owned. This in turn, would of made them want their lovers to be free, forcing millions of slaves into the towns, taking jobs from the whites. This couldn't be told, so Washington himself hid it to protect the nation he loved.

Now that the time of slaves has passed, us, team g@y, have shown this to you.

Please enjoy.

GAYPOWER.
