School sucks. The people are asses and gits and idiots, most teacher are useless and I would be more apt at taking the class then half of them (at my school atleast [and I'm not being arrogant, I'm just stating what I think and what people have said to me on numerous occasions]) and the learning is mainly aimless. They give you a whole tool box, most tools with so a specific job that they'll fade into insignificance and be cast off, making learning how to use them a waste of time. But I wouldn't think this without school so... Granted I learn more at home then there, I wouldn't have started if school hadn't shown me that the world is interesting. Maybe some teacher made a difference to me in a good way...

Sorry your original question; going do the following in year 11

Math Methods CAS units 3&4
English units 1&2
Psychology units 1&2
Chemistry units 1&2
Physics units 1&2
Geography units 1&2

I go back to school in 2 weeks.
I voted for the third option.
An I ready for school? Well, this should explain.

Priority 1: Don't talk to ANYONE=Great year
Priority 2: Remember it's 8th at a new school, I'm not stuck with the twats from 7th.
Priority 3: Try not to go to therapy again.

You guys are lucky you have your schedules already! We don't get ours until Open House. I already know what my homeroom is, because I'm part of the morning news crew (I'm an anchor :D ), and they have a special homeroom for that.
Other than that, I'm prepared for 8th grade! :)
And when I get back to school, the first thing I will try to do is to be extremely peppy and happy! Like a Daisy XD

I don't start school till September.

Probably. It'll be a couple of years for me before that.

And, well, it's strictly not an university either, although the local university is my second choice.
  • #12

Esalaka, you're a finn, right? I'm upset at your country's universities because they combine 1st and 2nd cycle degrees in one program. I'm trying to go to Jyväskylä for a masters degree because it's the only purely masters program in math I could find in the whole of Finland, and all my other choices had to be elsewhere in Europe (specifically Southern Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Croatia).

Not that I disapprove of that system, it's brilliant, but it's kinda screwing with my plans here.
  • #13

Yeah, I'm a Finn.
I wasn't aware of that, though. And don't know much 'bout Jyväskylä. I think you need to study there to become a teacher of certain subjects? Possibly.

+1 for proper åäö :3

(And also as a side note, education in Finland, regardless of level, is free. Shit's awesome. :D)

My original plan was to go somewhere in Sweden, but then they changed their laws so I, as a non-EU citizen, have to pay a, like, SEK70.000 tuition, which I can't afford. I have a slew of friends there (and some in Finland, but not as many), and I was hoping to be as close as possible so I could visit them.

Turns out, though, one of my closer friends might be going to Åbo Akademi, and Turku is a lot closer to Jyväskylä than Malmö, so this is good.

But yeah, the no tuition thing was a big deal for me, since it will already be expensive enough to live there. I also adore the nordics in general. Politics, society, languages, people in general, holidays (HURRAY FOR BIG FIRES!), etc.

Puhun myös vähän suomea, å jag talar lite svenska. (you know, for what it's worth)
  • #17

I finally got around to getting my counselor to fix my schedule. I ended up having to drop Psychology and AP Psychology so I could remain in the Ready Set Teach program, which sucks dick but whatever.

A Day:
1st Per- Art II
2nd Per- Adv. Ready Set Teach
3rd Per- Adv. Ready Set Teach
4th Per- PAP Physics

B Day:
5th Per- Statistics
6th Per- AP Government/Politics
7th Per- Graphic Design
8th Per- English IV

Then 2nd semester they replace AP Gov/Politics with Economics. At least I have an art class on both days. I'm looking forward to it.

I'd assume Swedish is easier for you, but even understanding either (or both in Turku especially) is a major advantage already.

That, and speaking Finnish is really pretty awfully hard so you get an awesome point for that.
  • #19

I absolutely love the Finnish language, I just can't find time enough to really concentrate on learning it, nor do I have particularly helpful friends with whom to practice. They all hate seeing me try XD

I am better at swedish though, yes, but I have a harder time pronouncing it. I'm told I sound like a drunk northerner or a mentally-deficient dane.

I know a lot of Finnish people, including me, who cringe harder than should be humanely possible upon hearing broken Finnish.

But I fail to understand how you could sound like a mentally deficient dane. Danish is traditionally understood here as Swedish, except impossible to pronounce.

That said, we Finns have so many Swede jokes and stereotypes I've learned to pronounce Swedish in a Swedish manner because of them. Hehehe.

I'm still wondering should I Change from spanish to Japanese or just stay in that class.
Dang this was my last post

I'm not going to go to uni. I'm planing on joining the Royal Australian Air Force and I'll study psychology and be a pilot. Thats the idea anyway. I think kaziy's in college.

I have pretty big problems pronouncing most north germanic languages. Except Icelandic, because apparently my mouth is broken like that. Finnish, pronunciation-wise, is a lot easier for me, but the grammar rules are plentiful and sometimes confusing.

Japanese is a great language, but really the choice is either which one you find more interesting or which one you find more useful. Gonna have to pick one of those.

Currently registered for 5 classes to finish a course I failed last year. 4 for the fall semester and the final project class for the winter semester.

Gonna be using the online library to refresh my memory and bring my skills back up to par.

I did too, but mostly because I moved away from rural PA bumblefuck to the PA Main Line. Intelligent middle-class is so much better than simple farmers, even if I got stuck speaking with an amish accent from it.

I know i'm going to have some programming class. Oh and all other basic classes.
  • #30

I know that I'll have AP US history, AP Language, Physics, and Pre Calculus. The other two classes are 50/50 between two choices. Drawing 1/2 or Creative arts 3/4, and Badminton or Team Sports.
  • #31

12th grade,
A levels. Lithuanian, maths, english, chemistry, computer science (I guess, but we mostly do programming on Pascal).
B levels. Music, sports or w/e it is, history, german.

I miss school...

At some point I stopped caring.

Apparently it was even before anyone told me Finnish has 51 declensions and 27 conjugations. (Seriously. That's an insane number. I keep on whining about the 5/5 (5/4?) Swedish has and my own language has ten times as many? Jeez.)
And that's obviously ignoring all the irregular stuff that is bound to happen in any language.

Hehe, Pascal.

Why don't they just change it to Python or something. It sees a lot of use nowadays, but probably won't pass Java.

I still can't use partitive right apparently. There aren't any rules on which of the 3 endings to use and when to use them, I'm completely confused, and it's used, like, all over the place.

In most of the cases these seem to apply: (In compound words only the last word matters)

  • "-ä" is used if the word contains a front vowel: "ä", "ö" or "y". It's the only natural way to pronounce the words, but that might only be obvious to a Finnish native. Front vowels and back vowels (a, o, u) don't generally mix together too well and Finns often have trouble pronouncing words containing both properly, usually falling back to using only middle (e, i) and front vowels if the pronunciation is too difficult.
  • "-a" is used if the word does not contain front vowels. Simple enough. Same reason as above, really.
  • "-ta", "-tä" are used when a word ends with a consonant, or if it ends in two vowels.
  • "-tta", "-ttä" are used when a word ends in "e"
  • The first two determine the vowel used in the t-endings

Additional source. I had to look up the second "-ta" rule and the "-tta" rule.

Additionally it seems that in some words, say, "tilhi", the i at the end of the word changes to an e without changing the suffix, resulting in "tilheä" instead of "tilhiä", which would be the plural of tilhi.

  • #36

Ok then, that clears up that really good, thanks! Now I just need to work on the appropriate times to use partitive case. Pretty much all I have down are for "some" things, to differentiate an ongoing action from a future action, negative sentences, and enquiries. Or something like those. Glad to have someone to help me get this shit for once XD
  • #37

Partitive is sort of like "targeting" something.

"I approached the cat" → "Lähestyin kissaa"
  • #38

Can someone please explain A B block to me.

What grade are you in?

Well, for a matter of simplicity, lets say the year starts on a Monday. Monday is an A day. Everything listed as A takes place on that day. Tuesday would wind up being a B day. Everything listed as B would take place on that day.

Example: My schedule for the coming year: (Substitute Orange for A, Black for B.)

(I don't know the order yet, but I do know the classes.)

1. Orange: Geometry
2. Black: Technical drawing
3. O:World history/geography II
4. B:Spanish II
5. O:Heath P.E II
6. B:English 10
7. O:Chemistry

In my case, I have First period every day, with alternating sets of classes.

On an orange, day I would go to all the odd numbed classes.
On a black day, I would go to all the even numbered classes.

Its O and B for me because The tiger is our mascot, and Orange and black are our colors.

By the way, I start school in September. :-*

When did you get off of school?

Eh...
For me A and B are levels.
A - harder, more lessons per week.
B - regular, not a lot of lessons per week.
  • #41

Wait aren't like half of the people here in highschool/college?
  • #42

I have no idea what this A B shit is. Non-retards use times and dates...
  • #43

I'm dead this year. AP history is gonna kick my ass. Know what my summer assignment is? Memorize the location of every country in the world. :nope:
  • #44

Last year of... high school, I guess.
Also, yeah, I don't get using A and B for dates either.

My last semester at this college starts Wednesday
Hopefully I will have my AA by December :smirk:
  • #47

Let's see.
Sophmore:
Geometry (picking up from chapter four), then into Algebra II. (Honors Math 10) I learned Algebra I and some of Geometry in Honors Math 9.
Honors English
Honors History
Regular Chemistry and Regular Biology. (I told them not to put me into Honors Bio in 9th grade 'cuz I'd probably fail, and look what the fuck happened. My guidance counselor sucks. Plus, she won't let me take regular Bio for one semester instead of Study Hall 'cuz I have ADD.)
Regular Spanish II (I didn't do homework for Reg. Spain. I, so they put me here.)
Piano or Singing (if Scott takes more money away), since they won't allow me to learn guitar. (Thanks Scott Walker! :/ )
Physical Education (Which I already took two semesters of. I only need three sems., but they are probably going to say I need a third year, even when I met all the requirements of each semester and shouldn't need to take it.)
Study Hall ('Cuz it's state required for ADD students.)
I can't remember the other class.

Freshman:
I did decent, if not well, for my classes, since I didn't do much homework.
I went from "A"s in first semester Honors World History to near failing. Why? 'Cuz we went from a teacher that taught us (Mr. Klumb) to a student teacher that didn't know how to teach (Ms. Hernandez).
I averaged "B"s and "C"s in English since I didn't do much of the homework. (Our teacher, Bonnie Brusky, was on the news! 8-D )
"C" average for Honors Math since I didn't do much of the homework. (Ms. Kiblawi was cool and funny.)
"A" in swim (I can't spell that teacher's name), then a "B" or "C" in gym (with Ms. Folwkes) since we had to show up every single day to gym.
"D"s and "U"s in Honors Bio 'cuz I didn't understand the material (which is why I requested regular Biology, but the counselor wouldn't allow that).
A "B" or "C" with our first Study Hall teach (Mr. Anzivino), since we didn't need to do work in there (we just stayed quiet and he would give us at least a "C"). "D"s in Study Hall with our second teacher (I don't remember her name), even though I tutored most of the class (Bio excluded). I didn't do "real work" in there, and the second teacher gave me that. "C" when we went back to our first teacher.
I hardly did any homework in Spanish and our first teacher gave me a "B." We switched and my stuff went down to a "D" 'cuz I didn't do some of the work.

I hope I get the same lunch as my Big Sis Sydney like last year.

My teacher was on the news too... except mine was fired and charged with sexual harassment. :nope:

On the plus side, I got into all the academic courses. (That's good.)

Luckily, out of the several teachers from my district who've been charged with some kind of sexual harassment, I never had any of them.
