Chortle's Art Thread

Hi I'm new to this forum , but I signed up because I saw that a lot of people were getting really useful advice and feedback. Also because BCB is pretty dang awesome.

Well, here's my dA: ashrous on deviantART

I also have a blog/web comic, but I 'm sort of afraid to post it until I see what people think of my other art... I don't want to burn your eyes out with too much bad art at once. But you can find the URL on my dA page, anyway.

Some of my fav/best art:

Ahaha I know you in real life, see you at school soon! XD Anyways, welcome to BCB forum. Be aware, people give harsh, but great feedback on here. Don't get annoyed if they dis your artwork, it's only to help. Trust me.

Oh, and a way you can post pictures is by using http://imageshack.us/ . You can sign up for free, and post pictures through there.
  • #2

Yeah see you soon! Thanks, yeah I've been following your art thread (stalker... o_0) You got really good advice... and I was like why do people never give me feedback like that??? D: So yeah here I am... I'm nervous for what people think!
  • #3

I quite like your style :3

There's something about those human figures, though.
  • #4

Thanks so much!

Hmm maybe it's the head? They're sorta huge, but that's supposed to make them look cartoony...

To embed an image, right click on the image on the page in DA. There should be an option called "View Image" or "View Image Source" or something. The resulting webpage will be the raw image. Copy the address in the address bar, and open the forum posting dialog. There is an icon in the post toolbar next to the hyperlink icon that looks like a photo. By clicking it, it will open something which says "Insert image" and "Image URL", followed by a text box. Paste the Image Address you copied earlier and click the button labeled "Insert Image."

Or, type [ img] and [ /img] (without the spaces) and put your Image URL between the two. That's the manual way to do it.

Also, you may also obtain the Image URL by right-clicking on the image and selecting "Copy Image Location" or something similar. That automatically copies the URL.

That's all there is to it.

Thank you, Dr. Klaus! I edited the first post so now the actual images are up! I did it all on my iPod touch so it took like an hour but it'll be worth it if I get feedback! (hint hint)
  • #7

You did this all by yourself?? How old are you?

I am amazed at your skill with drawing dragons and knowledge of their anatomy. That one drawing (self-portrait?) you made with the patterns was interesting and well-made. Your cartoony style is also very pleasant to look at.

You can tell there was a considerable amount of effort put into this. I am impressed.

She's 13, i think. Age does not really affect your art, its experience and the effort put in that matters.
  • #9

Thanks so much, Hero! Yes I did it all myself, although I used a reference for some of the dragon. Oh, and yep that's a self portrait!

Kei is right, I'm 13, (How did you know that? Just wondering...) and I suppose also right about experience and effort.
  • #10

akacatgirl is 13. its in her profile.
  • #11

Oh. Thought it might be something like that. :)

...what? Sorry, what's nonsense? Your compliments? Because I was sorta hoping you meant it...
  • #14

No no no, I meant it. I was just talking about the post I made before I edited it.

There, edited again for no further confusions

Oh okay :) Sorry I hadn't seen the post before you edited it and... yeah. Thanks.

Anyway, I'm going to the library to get some stuff scanned so I'll post some more stuff later today!

Oh yay you're gonna scan some stuff! Scanning in artwork is so much easier than using a camera. :D Can't wait to see some more of your art!
  • #17

Thanks! Well, for me scanning is harder since I have to convince my mom to drive me to the library, but worth it because the quality is so much better!

So here are two entries I made for some contests. I'd love if you guys could like them on Facebook because they're a prize for the most likes! (and also just because being liked is nice :) )
However, my entry hasn't been processed yet, so check back and I'll post the link!

Other than that, I'm working on a ten-page comic for my cartooning camp (and stuff for my webcomic like always). It should be done (hopefully) by Tuesday of next week, so I'll post that here! And then after that I'm going to make another 5-10 page comic for cartooning camp (my instructor makes us work really hard...).

Hmm I should make some BCB fan art since I'm on this forum!
  • #18

Could you give us a link to the facebook page so we can vote for you?
  • #19

i like your style.
  • #20

Akacatgirl (I wish I could call you by your real name, this seems so weird calling you by your username): I definitely will once it is posted on Facebook! I think it take a day or two to process the entry and get it up for voting.

DFA: Thank you :)
  • #21

My entries were processed. Please consider liking them on Facebook!

The first one (with the chibis and the giant fork): ChibiDraw

The second one (with the full manga characters): PaigeeDraw

Thanks so much if you like either or both of my entries! Also thanks if you didn't but took the time to look at them anyway.

Thanks so much for adding the links Chortle! :D

For some reason the "like" button isn't there...did the voting end or something?

Oh wait a second I figured it out! :P
<----stupid
(Anyways, it's kinda funny to call you Chortle and not your real name! XD Haha, I guess we feel the same way...I bet when we get back to school I'll call you Chortle in the hallway and everybody will be like "...what?" )
  • #23

Any time. Thanks for liking them!

Lol that would be majorly weird... 0_o

Here's a maga-y sketch I did a while ago:

....Holy sweet mother of, that's an amazing dragon you drew there 8-D
Your style is very interesting with pretty darn amazing results
  • #25

Thank so much! I hope you mean interesting in a good way... :P
  • #26

The feedback I've gotten so far is pretty positive, so I thought I'd share the link to my web comic: http://chortlecomics.blogspot.com/

Yes, it's on blogger because I'm only 13 and can't afford a domain. Also, when I made the site, I hadn't known about Smack Jeeves or ComicFury or any proper web comic hosting sites, which I sort of regret now.

Dreams Don't Turn to Dust (DDTTD) is a series thing I've been doing for like a month and a half. I didn't plan it out at all and I still don't really know where it's going. Just moving along, one page at a time. Other than that, I do regular comic strips and gags and such.

When I look back at the comic I made half a year ago, I choke a little. Like wow I actually thought that was good just 6 months ago? :nope: But then again, soon enough I'll look back at the stuff I do now and marvel at how incredibly bad it is.

Although I posted a pretty nice grayscale page today that I quite like, so please go check that out! :)

  • #29

I'm liking your art style.
  • #30

Thanks! And I'm liking your comment :P
  • #31

Wow, that pattern one looks like it took forever to do. I wish I had the patience to do that sort of stuff. It has a very nice finish.

Your colored stuff in the first post is really cute too. There's something about the style I really admire (especially the dinosaur). They're very playful designs. :)

Thanks so much, Marshmallow! And yes that pattern on took me forever! (okay maybe more like 20-30 hours, but close enough) I'm pretty sure it's the longest I've ever spent on one piece.

Here's a comic I made after an earthquake and a hurricane came in the same week!

This was the 100th comic I'd made for Chortle Chortle... The coloring was really fun 8-D But super rushed :/

Anyway hope you enjoy!

Your college looks so much collegeyer than mine! And you just remined me that I forgot to put a trumpet on mine but I already put packaging tape on it aaaaaaaaaaa ;_;
Sorry for the rant. Looks very pretty! :D
  • #40

Thanks!

Akacatgirl: What did you put in you collage if there weren't any trumpets? I thought that would be like the entire thing. Other than art. Also, probs was smart of you to put packing tape on.

Notice my discrete placement of markers in my collage? :P

Just gonna throw this out there, asking a question like that can put you in some bad territory. Be careful out there.

Also, we must live in the same general area, I saw the comic about the earthquake/hurricane.
  • #45

wow! this are good!
  • #46

I would have said the same. Come on, I may be a harsh critic but I'm not a complete arse.

I really dig your coloring, it's very much what I imagine a book illustrator would use. However, you could benefit a lot from learning the basics, the core of your drawings are lacking a certain balance and flow.
  • #48

Till now, haven't seen you drawn a BCB character yet, chortle.
  • #49

Bourban: Thank you for both the compliments and the critique... I really need to check out books about art or enroll in an art class. I don't have like ANY art training D:
Raxki: Thanks!
Sammy: Thanks, too!
_Kei: Yes, I know.. I'm really into drawing fan art, and I'm so busy and I barely have time for my own stuff! I should try drawing them, though!

And here's a rainbow panda I drew for my friend's birthday:

MediaFire - Online Space for your documents, photos, videos, and music.

(the image thing isn't working so I'll just post the link.. sorry I'll try to fix it later!)

I got the wrong paper and it ended up being all waxy and wouldn't absorb any marker... hence the streakiness.
