Have you ever started off not liking a person .... then end up falling for them?
Actually it happens a lot more often then most people think. It is like a variation of the "opposites attract effect" that states that people with opposite personalities end up being attracted to each other. If you want examples think of the ending couples of the movie: The Breakfast Club.
Going back to the direct topic of the thread, I believe there is certain amount of time that a person thinks and remembers about a past loved one before they start to have them fade from their direct thought. Normal people do not mourn for prolonged amounts of time, and usually begin to stop thinking about them after about a year. Now in the terms of people who have died they will of course be mourning and remembering for a longer time, sometimes even lasting for the rest of their lives.
