Paulo: Genteel or Giant Faggot? It's the latter.
Just so you know, I typed in Kizuna

1. David has been his best friend for like 6 or 7 years. I don't think it's completely unreasonable to want them to see you as cool.
2. He didn't lose his virginity to get acceptance, if you notice he was basically raped by Jessica when he was just taking her out to prove to David he could still pick up chicks.
3. When you say he just wants to be cool, do you mean he just wants to make his friends happy? How does he not have the "Balls" to be a main character when many times he is considered to have more balls than Mike, the male lead.
4. I wouldn't shy away from saying he's probably the character who has had the most development throughout the comic, which would explain why some would rather see him as the male lead, rather than Mike.

And his womanizing and asshole aspects are hilarious. Now that Yashy's not on enough to make abortion jokes anymore, he and David are the funniest characters.

And to add to this: Why is it necessary for the main character to have said "Balls"? It would be another character flaw if anything. Main protagonists are allowed to have flaws. Just look at that bitch Lucy.

Umm, yeah they are really funny. I don't think anyone doubts that. Yes, Paulo's antics are hilarious and yadayadayada. However, if you've taken a psych class, you'll realize that, yeah, he really just wanted to be accepted by David, that's why he asked Jess out on a date. He wanted to sleep with her from the beginning. He slept with Rachel because sex feels good. If this were a comic where you were only supposed to laugh, I'd agree with you. But, no, it's about DRAMA so we need more Lucy-like characters to build up angst.
Also, yeah, half of my stuff is just stupid sarcasm.
Since I know that this is just a comic, I really do think Paulo's pretty funny. But if I ever met a guy like him in REAL life, I'd deck him in the face.

But to my love for paulo. Paulo to me is that brother that you can count on being an ass at just the right time. I think he is perfect as is, and needs continue to be that asshole for the sake of all the pansies he hangs around.

I agree. Paulo wants to be treated as if he's the strong and dependable one in the group. After the incident in sixth grade when Alejandro caused his phobia of dogs barking, that was the real turning point. He changed into the womanizer we all know and love today, because he believed it gave him some personal strength. He didn't want to be "weak" anymore.
Not to mention, don't Lucy, Mike, Daisy, Tess, and Abbey all have the exact same problem? All to far lesser degrees, but every character wants to be accepted by those around them.

Anyways, the characters more represent human personalities in this sense. No one really wishes to go out and not try to be accepted by their peers. Also, I wouldn't undersell the other character's desire to be accepted and actually believe characters like Tess and Daisy try much harder than Paulo to be accepted by their friends.
