Is it just me or is sandy very VERY bland?

I guess that since Im new to this comic I may be mentioning information that everybody completly knows but...Is sandy very bland? Because she comes off to me like that. Im not saying this is a derogatory term (SANDY IS SUPER BLAND! DEATH TO SANDY/ PAULO >:O ) But Im honestly asking if I missed anything about her. She just seems like a random perfect princess that dropped out of the clouds. The only thing I know about her now is that she is partialy overworked...

Im honestly asking about this. Im not pushing anything. Is there anything else to her character?

It's more that we really don't know enough about her. She's barely had any screen time.

This.

She seems to be a bubbly, model type who just happens to hate just that. But then again, we don;t know enough about her to jump to conclusions. She may seem bland because of well..just that.

I picture her to be a lot like Mike, just very overworked.

I like my women like I like my water: bland, uninteresting, quiet, yet pretty too look at sometimes.
  • #4

Sandy has had one chapter of actual development, and even then there were a lot of subtle flags regarding her character.

Very wet.

I do hope that we get to see more of her, because MiwAuturu is right, we just haven't seen enough of her to fully get a sense of her as a character. These are pretty much the handful of traits that I can remember off the top of my head:

-Pretty
-Day-dreams alot
-Bad at school
-Charismatic/Popular
-Friendly
-Polite
-Mature
-Short-fused when stressed
-Easily tempted by sweets
-Weak-willed

Admittedly that's alot to get through the short chapter we saw her in, but it's not enough. What would be really nice is to have her move back somehow and have her interact with the main cast. That would really help us understand her character better.
  • #6

I tasted her not too long ago, and believe me, she ain't bland.
  • #7

Can't wait for December, so we may be able to get some more scenes with her in them hopefully, or at least more drama revolving around her possibly.

I am curious about her... but even if she does get more screen time, I believe she would act like she did back when she was in the main cast's town with drama increase. Eh, why does mike like his women so...bland in personality(as she appears to be)? :/
  • #9

Yeah, pretty much the reason why Sandy's one of the characters I dislike the most. While she did get that one chapter dedicated to her, I felt that there really hasn't been that much else to get me to care about her. This really would have made Mike's efforts to meet up with Sandy a lot more engaging, in my opinion, but it just comes off to me as a missed opportunity because most of what we know about Sandy is stuff Mike tells the audience. In other words, we're left to assume too much. I can tell you that Paulo's relationships have been certainly a hell of a lot more interesting because we actually see some interaction. Even if Sandy's away, there's still some way to come up with something, her chapter was a step in the right direction. What I'm hoping for is to have this whole conflict spread out in some kind of arc instead of just cramming everything together at the end of the story.

She's not bad at school, her parents would make sure of that.

I can't wait for a chapter where she bitch-slaps her mom.

At the very least she's bad at English (which if I'm remembering right is how she met Mike, he tutored her).

And I guess we can add athletic to the list.

I'd really consider a D or E to be bad at something, I'd say she's just not that good at it.

She will never get more screen time, or else there wouldn't be as much drama with her mind fucking Mike all the time. People would start to like her as well, and if people started to like her there wouldn't be as much drama.

"Bad" is subjective term, true. And if your standard is passing, she's not bad at English, although only just barely. But I would probably put the start of "bad" at a C+, and I know plenty of people who wouldn't be so generous.
  • #15

Right. I was basing it on Sandy's reaction to her grade. If a C- were acceptable, I don't think she'd look quite so put-off by it.

Why would there be less drama if people liked her? Wouldn't that just add to the drama, because then people would be conflicted about what they wanted to have happen?

This is a very good point. It is complicated enough that so little is known about her but if anything was definite it would wreck the way the story is designed to go. Sandy appears to be mainly an obstacle, making her "human" would change the perception of her character.
  • #17

Thus is the reason Sandy remains my least favorite character
Theres not enough there for me to like about her
  • #18

She isn't meant to "liked". She is just "there".
  • #19

Exactly
  • #20

it's just you. although i would like elaboration on Sandy I don't think Taeshi is going to do that. and i think i know why.
  • #21

I do too
  • #22

The only thing I'm wondering is why some people like her if she's just "there". there isn't much to her except her looks because she's an obstacle that mike fanboys over.
  • #23

I honestly happen to like Sandy (though it may just be me relating it to personal experience again).

I understand how Sandy COULD be meant to serve as an obstacle between Mike and Lucy, but I'm not entirely sure that's what Taeshi's going for (even though it seems likely, it could just be me being naive again  ). I think it'd be a good idea to maybe elaborate on her character a bit more. Maybe then people wouldn't be so polarizing with the whole Sandy vs. Lucy thing I see so often.
  • #24

Sandy seems to me like a "steady B student". Indeed she's a lot pretty and definitely deserves to be a model in that kind of way.

I like Sandy though, I don't know why,I always thought of her as a nice, pretty, generous girl with a few weaknesses, nothing special, nothing bad. :D

Just because you've never met a person like that, doesn't mean that such a person doesn't exist. :smirk:
  • #27

Your logic:

1. I have met people.
2. I have never met someone like that.
Conclusion: That kind of person does not exist.
  • #28

People have ups, and downs with there grades all the time, the reason she does is because she's so busy, because her mother(if not both parents) want her to be really successful.

She's a flashback character who's only started getting a LITTLE bit of subtle complexity as of her most recent chapter. Of course she's going to feel bland.

He questioned your logic.
YEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHH

Why do you all have to hate on Sandy, I honestly think there's nothing wrong with her.
  • #32

She's under-developed, prevents MikexLucy, is a foreigner and is leading Mike on if you happen believe that theory.

If we consider the other meaning of under-developed: Sandy is taller than Mike, but has smaller boobs than Lucy. :smirk:

Sandy is pretty adorable and soft-spoken and affectionate and a bit airheaded, and doesn't lash out/get angry. She is pretty polar opposite of Lucy's personality. She's way more docile, which is why she gets pushed around by her mother.

Mike's totally into the whole good girl thing, kinda seems like she's never done anything to wrong him, while Lucy was always up for arguing and hitting him and such. If I were Mike i'd wait too.

I'd think Sandy is bland because she just does as her parents tell her too. Sandy - Sandy's parents conflict. :O I'd expect her and Mike to meet before the end of the comic but not before she has an argument with her family about it.

Heh, I've suspected something similar the whole time - namely, that she'd show up to be in the audience for the school's Death of a Salesman performance. (That is going to be January, right?)

I'm also expecting Augustus to notice her with Mike... and things may not be pretty after that.
  • #42

Death of a Salesman is super grim and depressing. It doesn't seem Sue's style at all, despite its intellectual and philosophical moments.

Where was it stated that the play was going to be Death of a Salesman?

Juniorboomer: In "Casting Call", Mike read lines from that play in order to see if he could act and get the part. Sue isn't actually doing that play, though.
  • #47

She is not as flavorful as the other characters, that is for sure. Needs more salt.

:/
  • #48

Personally, I think the bland thing is a thin layer of plastic wrap to hide the fact that shes a F###ING secret agent.
