A Shot of Bourbon (now taking commissions because why not?)

Due to a sudden influx of interest (wow, three people asked. That's almost four people!), I've armed myself with a corny thread title and an arsenal of half finished gobeldigook and I'm taking anything you can dish out, baby! To those faint of heart, pregnant, or at risk of becoming pregnant: some of the images you're about to see may be artwork.

Sketches and Doodles:
Spoiler

Pity that a lot of these were taken with a phone camera, but eh. I'll upload painting/sculptures and other miscellaneous crap once someone shows me how to spoiler so I don't make huge walls of images like this >_>

Edit- yay, that was easy.

Edit2- Electric Boogaloo

Shit why can't I be this good.
To spoiler, type "
Spoiler
"
...
Lets try again. See these guys, "[" and "]"?
To start the spoiler, type "spoiler" and put the brackets on each end.
To finish the spoiler, type "/spoiler" and then the brackets again.

EDIT: But honestly there's not much point in putting a spoiler in since everyone is going to be opening it anyway

Well yeah, but then you CHOSE to see a bunch of giant images and you don't have to scroll down forever if you don't want. Also, for some reason I can't seem to get the fan art Maplestory one to rotate properly. I kinda give up on that one.

Should I post more? I didn't even get into markers or paint or digital stuff yet (though I don't have a lot of digital media)

Also, thanks, I guessed it'd be something that simple.
  • #3

Wow... You are REALLY good...
  • #4

As a trick, you can rotate images using Microsoft Office Word, just be sure to set text wrapping to in front of text. Now you can rotate it all you want!
Keep posting, the people want to see. Keep posting, and more people will want to see.

It's common forum code, so yeah.
  • #5

I don't forum so much, I'll admit...

I just don't understand why I can rotate any image on Photobucket and it works fine but that one stays sideways. It's pissing me off! >:[

But yeah, posting more now then. Toodles.

God, I have so much better stuff, I just don't have a camera for it so you have to settle for what's already on Photobucket...

Holy shit...your art is fucking fantastic

KEEP
DRAWING

If you dont draw and show us even more I will destroy you >:O
  • #8

Kaizy, if you give me an idea of what to draw within the next 10 minutes or so I'll make you something. I'm looking for something to do before sunrise :P
  • #9

My god, you blow my mind. I'd like to hear more of this "religion"...
The cosmos painting is fantastic and I really like the robot fellow. You are quite the artist bourbon, a true jack of all trades.
Should that comment still stand and kaziy doesn't take you up on the offer, do either a wolf/arctic fox portrait (pencil sketch?) or an abstract piece.

As in, a pencil sketch or abstract wolf portrait?
  • #11

The portrait wolf being pencil, abstract being whatever.

Also, I meant to mention it before... That monstrosity at the start... Beast.

Ive got no ideas at all (Im not good with ideas)
Just use Memy's idea :P
  • #13

You are so Kaziy, you just lose momentum and then interest/confidence in the idea.
  • #14

Well that, plus I just cant create ideas in general
  • #15

Well, you two play nice, I'm gonna start experimenting with wolves...
  • #16

Jeez, that took forever just to find my pencils! I swear this did not take me half an hour, at least half of that time was dedicated to 'holy fuck I know I put it here yesterday' patrol.

Anyway, hope this is okay MM&I. I did one in just black and white, and then added a splash of blue. Which looks better?

  • #17

Wow... Less then an hour? Less then HALF AN HOUR!?
The one with the blue looks better because it really accents the color of the fur and it shows it off.the pose is perfect, true to life. Most would make it look more "real" by changing it, if you catch my drift. Hard to explain. Brilliance on a page. And you did it so quickly! If I have one grip it's that the wind pipe and neck seems to come a little too far down. Just bearly. With the black background I prefer the shading in the fur, you lost some of that in the blue.

I hate the "I remember expressly puting it here so I'd be able to find and now it not here" feeling. Dam family, moving my stuff, making me feel paranoid.

Gotta ask, why did you quote yourself? XD
Ah, nevermind then...

Glad you like it though, I might play with it a little more and see what happens, maybe even color the fur and make it a grey wolf.

Thanks for looking at my page, guys :D

  • #21

...you did those in less than a half hour?

Envy ;_;
  • #22

Well saying 'those' is kinda unfair, it's more like 'that' since it's the same picture twice XD

You really don't have much to be envious about though, you seem pretty capable yourself. I wish I could do what you can when it comes to your comics and linearts and sketches and stuff.
  • #23

What's your education?
Idea: an Ibis showing off its Jetpack to its human friends. Everyone is wearing steampunk/victorian clothing. Someone has a ukelele.
  • #24

Sounds like a dream I had once, only everyone lived on flying streets and raised platforms and houses were zeppelin boats. Also lanterns made of jars full of glowing frogs. I'M ON THE CASE!

My education is mostly self taught, though I am going to school for fine arts now. I haven't really LEARNED so much as...I got to try new things I usually couldn't. Like painting and stuff, I never painted before those paintings I posted. Same with sculpture, which I forgot to put up. I guess I should do that soon. XD
  • #25

Your art
Is amazing

Such variety  Please don't abandon this thread
  • #26

Nice dream, I can never remember mine. My inspiration was that I saw lots of Ibises (Ibisi?) today, and they can't fly haha stupid birds.
  • #27

Well it's a fun idea, if a little in depth. I'll start after breakfast, unless I fall asleep >_>
  • #28

You are absolutely incredible. Would it be possible to buy or pre-order a copy of the book you mentioned? I would treasure it forever.
  • #29

Haha, honestly, I'd feel bad letting you preorder it because you'd probably have to wait forever. Not to mention the company I was gonna publish with got bought out, so I need to find a new one. I'll let you know if it gets close to completion though, kay?

I'm also working on another book, part of a series I came up with in a Children's Literature class. The series (so far) is called The Book of Nomaad, and they're written as if they were journal entries, with hand sketched and watercolored illustrations. The idea is that there's a character called Nomaad, an old and curious creature who travels across the various lands of his world, and each book is him telling the story of a new character he watched from afar. The first one being this big guy here, a monster that's too big for his home, whose clumsiness causes him to be cursed with Back Lucks.

Nice stuff. How long have you been drawing and how do you practice?
  • #31

Since I was two to three, I guess. My mom still has marble notebooks full of my old drawings, back when I was always making dragons and kings with giant heads and little mustaches. As far as practice goes, just try new things. I refuse to be a creature of habit with my art, the worst that can happen is you don't do so well the first couple times. Like that wolf for MM&I, that was actually the first time I ever drew a wolf (not counting cartoons), so that was a pretty cool experiment. I wouldn't know if I could do it without trying, you know?
  • #32

Your stuff looks fucking amazing, I am incredibly jealous :O My favourite is probably the pallette knife painting you did, it looks gorgeous!
  • #33

Spoiler

You are...words cannot come close to describing how awesome all of this is. It's just...just...like comparing a grain of salt to the combined energy of the entire "Local Group."

But why, if your art is so magnificent, is your avatar so simplistic? I'm not saying you should change it, I'm loving the irony there.

Haha, the requirements were 'something cute', and I just wanted to join not knowing if I'd be staying, so 10 seconds on Paint later, here I am XD
  • #35

Hey all you Spidey fans out there! I need some opinions but felt bad making a whole new thread, so maybe someone will stumble upon this one. I'm working on a plague doctor mask and I'm not really a bag of money so I'm working with paper mache, which leaves lots of little divots and pock marks in the surface even after some sanding. Should I prime and paint as is, and accentuate the marks to give it the illusion of being really old and decrepit, or should I try filling in the gaps with plaster or wood fill and sand it smooth?

I apologize in advance, camera pics.

What say you?
  • #36

Well, I say that it already looks pretty fucken cool. Now, to business. It depends on the look you want. Leaving the mask pitted and masking it look aged makes it feel as though the wearer never made it though the plague itself. This would work well with rags and so on. Giving the mask a smooth surface would so purity, perfection and would look killer with a charcoal suit. If you want irony you can have a pure white mask with rags. It depends on the look YOU want. I like both but I think making the mask decrepit would be pretty cool.

This said, be warned. Sanding paper mâché is never a good idea. You lose the smooth finish. You'll have to use incredibly fine sandpaper. So, yeah.

Remember; these are just my opinions, I could be wrong.
  • #37

Nah, it's cool, I had the same ideas about the mask/costume dynamic. I'm thinking of going with old and rotted, and making the costume look worn and tattered. I wanna go with this idea of a plague doctor that never stopped, never died, never took off his mask. I plan on walking around at night with a silver and wood cane and never speaking, just staring at people. I also rigged up a wooden jointed hand to wear as a fake prosthetic, because why not, that'd be cool. XD

Don't worry, I have 60-1000 grit sandpaper, I'm okay. I've been carving wands way too much not to have it on hand :P

Would you guys be interested in seeing the costume/other costumes?

Two words.

Fixed that for you.

So I did some stuff to the mask, mainly staining it with wood stain, the painting off white over it, not liking the result, wiping it off, and deciding to keep it a gross brown color, along with splattering blood across the side of the mask and some of the rags used in the costume. I also had the idea of getting one of those black faceless hood things for like $3 at Party City, and gluing strong neodymium magnets to the hood and mask. Now it's as easy as popping it on and off, no muss, no fuss, and I don't even need to take my glasses off! I can see!

Unfortunately, I cannot take a decent picture of myself wearing it, and I refuse to reduce myself to cell phone bathroom mirror pictology, so I present to you my hairy little brother.

three things.
one, it is very nice. it does look very old, so you succeed in that respect, and the blood is a fantastic touch.
two, why the fuck is your brother naked.
three, why not just have him take the picture while you wear it?
  • #42

One, thank you :3
Two, he's not, but he's almost always shirtless for some reason. When I went in his room to ask him to model it for me he was in a wool cap and microphone headset and scarf, no shirt. The kid's weird.
Three....well fuck. I guess in my defense he'd probably take shittier pictures? >_>

It looks really good Bourbon.

And by good I mean creepy as fuck ^_^

It's going to looks spectacular when the whole costume is done.
  • #45

Thanks a bunch, you guys. I'll keep everyone posted as soon as the hat and cowl are finished, and I'm carving the walking stick as we speak.

...It's a bit of a long shot, but is anyone interested in a custom wand for Halloween, or just because? My friend got me into this idea and now I make replica Harry Potter wands, and customized wands with Hogwarts acceptance letters, for pretty cheap considering most alternatives. I also do plushies and sculptures, I could really use the money :U

Oh wow, Bourbon, all of this is pretty great. Hell, I bet your sculptures are just as good!

I dunno, honestly, if you need the money I could try and scrape up some funds for a commission for drawn art, if you're okay with that. Don't need wands for my costume, sorry~ I bet the sculptures are rather expensive, too. If you're up for it we could talk in PMs, but I won't really reply until later today 'cause it's 2 AM and I am piss tired.

PS you remind me of that guy from Metro 2033, and I can't not read your name in his voice.

Example pictures, please?
  • #48

I'll post some pics soon, I wanna get good ones because cell phone pictures SUCK. I do have some of the old photos, but it's only of the first two wands I did. You can see them anyway though...

Posted Image

The first ones had wooden cores and were covered with polymer clay, so the whole thing is sculpted and painted. Now I'm actually carving the shafts out of wood and only using clay for handles, which I think makes them better. I have a bunch more custom ones I'll get photos of for 'yall, and if you have a design in mind I'd be more than happy to make one special, there's no charge for designing your own. :D

Susan, I know what you mean about sculptures being mad expensive, but I'm not nearly confident enough with my work to start charging $300 and up for a single piece (I've been offered that, though. It's crazy what white upper class people will spend money on). I'd be glad to do even small custom sculptures, of a variety of mediums. I also do musical instruments, and musical sculptures, if that helps XD
  • #49

You are honestly the most extraordinarily talented gentleman I have ever had the pleasure of talking to; I would pay you for a commission, but I fear I don't have enough to pay what you deserve.
