BCB Site Bugs & Feature Requests

Here's the list of site to-dos. Input, additions, etc appreciated.

Major things
  • Tweak homepage design, add news section and news archive
  • New emoticons in page comments, some kind of popup to explain them
  • Redo store design
  • Tweak lettering in BCB logo
  • Server migration - get nicer automatic backups running, get php and httpd and mysql logs in order, consolidate and make cron make sense, etc.
  • Add news posts into the RSS feed. (I think I did this. Should put it in twitterfeed too)
  • Mobile site revision - homepage (header logo too), forum tweaks, comicviewer maybe
  • Redo images in characters section
  • Fix comic archive stuff, as noted here, the riiiing bit, smudges in the Molly chapter, and a scribble on pages 20 and 23 of ch 57.
  • Automate BCI stuff - automatically add to db, automatically set forum username

Bugs and minor things
  • Artist info section
  • FAQ
  • Commissions
  • Ensure people can't post their BCI PIN by mistake
  • Add Candybooru username info to Member CP, also make the username changeable once
  • Cannot start comment with emoticon
  • Speech bubble tail looks wonky on some browsers
  • Various IE7 bugs - Michael's position on the homepage new visitor thing, various others
  • Strange unable to stat error in php logs
  • Fix borders on ads in IE
  • Update the old quiz, do a Facebook version
  • Make sure we have bought all the fonts the site uses - at this stage, Frutiger is all that comes to mind??
  • Fadey stuff etc on shirts page
  • It gives up if you post something long??
  • h4 or whatever on store is too far to the side
  • /lol.html/ and /lol/ loads a page, it shouldn't
  • Region check in the store
  • Code autoupdate for new chapter

Candybooru
  • Add emoticons
  • Special thumbnails for super tall images
  • Recapitalise tags?
  • There's some appending ?search issue clicking next buttons
  • Some kind of new header? At the least, clean up the failed expandable header idea and purge all the useless links
  • Bold/colour tags with (Artist) at the end
  • Search bugs - Pau* doesn't find Paulo, multiple tags are an OR search, subtracting won't work.
  • Sign in bug
  • Emoticon popup in postcomment
  • Replace image extension for admins
  • Find a way to deal with the fancharacter shit
  • No comments (Amaya) image where necessary
  • Browser bugfixes - check search input placement, input element text sizes

You see, this is the thread about the homepage design.
  • #2

The mobile comic viewer isn't working. How come nobody tells me when it breaks?
  • #3

i need a place to put my toothbrushes.
  • #4

The comment box on the site only loads on the front page, and not for the other ones; is this intentional, or is it a bug?
Taking another look, nothing loads below "Oh, have you voted today?"
  • #5

Bizarre bug! I didn't change anything, just restarted Apache and it came back. Sorry about that, it was really dumb!
  • #6

Can we have some sort of evil face? Like with Alejandro?

Oh, If there's spare time, maybe there could be different skins for the forum? With different drawings, and colors matching characters?

That would be a nice addition, and would take forever to make, so, that can be added to the "to do" list ^_^

(why do I have the feeling Mr. ILB will come to say "We already have that ^_^" )

Hee~

Well, Suit has expressed the thought that it will not be included. So I would not bet on it becoming a feature.

Oh, is that so?
Lucky he didn't see this first, then.

He'd probably chew my bones off with that request =P

Did anyone notice my post?

Oh, sorry, Mr. Light >_<

You mean some evil face emoticon? That's Taeshi-san's department XD
  • #14

I'm curious as to what "tweaking" the BCB logo pertains to.
  • #15

rotating the individual letters to look more jaunty and less like i just typed them out with a font
  • #16

the gallery page is not rendering properly for me.

Google chrome on fedora 14 linux.

If you can't reproduce, it must be my platform. Will provide screenshot if needed.
  • #17

Yes please. "Not rendering properly" is v. vague
  • #18

screenshot is as follows.

Edit I'm sorry, I said gallery when I meant archives.
  • #20

Why is it when I click "Save Change" it says "loading" and then dosen't work? But if I switch to full editor it will work?

EDIT: This should have been posted in the other thread.

Oh, that's happening to me too.
I thought you were talking about candybooru ^_^

Oh, I use Windows 7, Firefox.
So, I think it's everywhere.

EVERYWHERE!
:O

Mr. RickAstley also tells the truth. Also started happening to me just now.
Just refresh the page, Mr. Rick, it saves. Believe it. ;)

I also get the same problem as Starwatcher. I've noticed it for the past two days actually, but I thought you might simply be working on the archives page. The "About" page also doesn't look the same as it did before. It's kind of weird with some names not properly aligned.

I'm using Firefox 3.6.13 on Windows 7.
  • #23

I see! I think I forgot to update some things in the CSS. I've made it nice now, right?

Thanks for alerting me.

The edit not saving thing was noted in the forum thread.
  • #24

Looks fantastic SuitCase. 8-)

I turn this on for like one minute and you all complain >:O

I appreciate it, though. But it was just a debugging thing.

Isn't this why this thread exists? To complain?

i can't find the calendar, but is the block feature new?

How can i send random birthday congrats now?
  • #30

By consulting your memory and congratulating family and friends, not people on the internet you barely know.

I removed the calendar because it was barely used.
  • #31

Not sure if this is the link or Topwebcomics' problem, but I can't seem to load the voting gateway for the incentive. I think Topwebcomics might be the problem, as googling it yields Error 400. Any ideas?
  • #32

Topwebcomics is down right now. Its been doing this throughout the week, give it a bit and they should bring it back up.
  • #33

Thanks, bearkidney. But what will I do without my incentive to tide me over between pages? Well, I suppose the Forum and Candybooru will do :)

and for that, we thank you
  • #37

And we can't have a general stickied birthday thread why?
  • #38

Make one in recess if you must.
  • #39

When I choose to receive a notification from a thread I receive a pm for every new post on that thread, so I was wondering if is possible to check if there is already a notification from a specific thread wich prevents tens of notification from that same thread to cumulate...
I usually can get from 10 to over 150 notifications (from just 3 threads).
However, if this would take too much time or is just impossible never mind, I'll find a way to embank it.
  • #40

I'm not sure. What would you want it to do? Wait until you clear a notification relating to that thread before it sends another?
  • #41

Yup, that could come in handy, in that way the notification would send you to the first new post (a bit like a bookmark).
  • #42

Take a look at "Notification Options" in your board preferences. See the dropdown labelled "If enabled, choose default notification type"? Would changing it from "Immediate" to "Delayed" have the desired effect, perhaps? I'm not sure what the difference is, but maybe delayed sends less notifications. It seems this option might apply only to automatically watched topics when checking the box above it, so look under "Your Notifications" for a similar drop down, or even on the reply page. The option may exist there.

Alternatively, "daily digest" may be an imperfect solution to this that reduces the clutter.
  • #43

Mmh, I already saw them but I wasn't sure about their effects...
Il try out and, if you're interested, I'll tell you the differences.
Meanwhile, thank you for your help and effort ^^
  • #44

Just a little thing, but it would be nice if there were a "Random Comic" button in addition to the assortment of comic navigation buttons. Y'know, to take you to a randomly selected page somewheres. Just for a wee bit of fun.

That would surely work for a strip, but not for a longform comic, would it? Curious to see if my opinion is too conservative here.

An alternative could be "random first page of a chapter", but even so. I don't personally see much value in it.
  • #46

Klaus, I'm sure Spacey could do something like that if you want, but I'm in agreement with Suit here. I don't think it's worth it, really.

There could be a random booru link instead. Same idea, just for the booru instead.

Here in the forums, there's the little IRC logo and link in the top right corner. It shows the number of people logged on. I believe it would be a better representation of IRC activity if it showed the number of users actively chatting, rather than counting the idle users as well. For example, it shows 39 users active as of now, but in reality only 8 of them are really active. Input?

Maybe count people with activity in the last five minutes or so? I, for one, have a remote shell and am running irssi in screen, therefore effectively bumping the number up by one permanently.
