-God I'm afraid of mirrors.

-When I'm in a streetlight, my own shadow scares me sometimes.

-In the dark, my footsteps sound like they're following me D:

-I switch the lights off then make a mad dash for my covers.

-I must close doors that open to dark rooms, or else my peripheral vision drives me crazy.

-I crack my fingers sideways.

-I sit down while showering.

-I drum my fingers constantly.

-I have an obsession with wallpaper hunting.

-I have a small bony lump at the back of my head.

-I see things in my peripheral vision.

-I talk to myself.

-I do many things that a normal girl wouldn't do. (assassins creed, call of duty, oh my.)

-My physical workspace is a cluttered mess, but my computer desktop is always neat.

-Whenever I walk behind a stranger, I feel like I'm stalking them.

-I swear too much.

-I constantly say "frick" under my breath.

I use to think I was special, or at least off, then when I went to college several people started telling me that they had friends just like me back at home. Okay, no big deal maybe they still aren't exactly like me, I am pretty weird and out there after all, right? Well then this year at college, and I kid you not, 18 of the 20 girls on this hall remind me of me. They aren't exact clones or anything, but they all have at least a few things and quirks that I do too.

Point is, you are not nearly as special or weird as you think you are, you might have "quirks" but you aren't a perfect little snowflake that is completely and 100% original, I can think of at least 5 people off the top of my head who share all of these things you guys have listed so far. So stop trying to seem special, you're the same dumb ape as everyone else on this planet and all your ideas of individuality come from a desire to make yourself seem above average which is statistically impossible.

tl;dr: Get over yourselves. :-*

People are just answering the topic of the thread, nobody has really blatantly gone "tee hee i'm so unique", you don't have to be a bitch about it.
  • #105

I'm just pointing out a mentality people have that they are truly unique and no one else shares their habits and traits. Gotta learn it at some point or some people will have a constant mentality to not try and get to know new people cause they assume that no one will like how "Odd" they are. I was probably harsher than I need to be but it gets the point out there, there are no true individuals, we are objects of society so society has formed everything about us, in a way there really aren't any "Unusual" traits or habits because its a statistical fact that tons of other people do the same. Taking the more "Whole" mentality rather than the "single" mentality stops people from discriminating against stereotypes they might have against someone who looks like a "Prep" or something when really that person could be closer to them in what they do and think.

That's what I've learned this year and what I have been trying to teach the other girls on my hall cause a lot of them assumed that no one would like them for who they were, when really there are tons of other people just like them they have found a supportive and loving family from it who accept and love them.
  • #106

I'm pretty great.

That's pretty unusual for the rest of you. :-*

My left thumb is double jointed, but my right isn't.

On a slightly different note, there is a cat under my house. It's not a violent cat, (actually rather playful) but I don't want it living under my house.

• I'm partially colorblind. I can see color, but it's hard to tell certain shades of red and green from each other. In other words, I'm a red/green colorblind.
• I have this wierd habit with erasers where I take the leftover shavings and roll them up until they stay stuck to each other in a ball. Don't ask me how that works. How well it works usually depends on the eraser.
• I've been known to have random outbursts, don't know why. I just get an urge to do so.
• On nights where I don't have to go to school, I tend to sleep until noon. I've been trying to stop doing this, though.
• Don't know if this counts, but I really wish my eyes were heterochromatic. It just looks awesome in my opinion.
• I used to run faster than most adults as a toddler, now not so much. Dunno what happened to me.
• I sometimes throw up out of the blue for no reason.
• As a force of habit, I wash my hands so much that in the winter the skin starts cracking open. IT FREAKIN' HURTS.

That's about all I can think of right now.

- My thumbs are clubbed.

- Asthma

- Eye scar, a small one.

- ...I talk to my cats... :x

- ...and I reply for them... D:

- I'm slightly hydrophobic, deep water, cruise ships, boats deep ends of pools freak me out. I'm okay in the shallows, but if I can't touch the bottom then..just...ugh. It's not happening.

- I hold my breath when passing by a cemetary as an act of respect for spirits, when I need to breath I look away.

- I can usually tell what a song is and who sings it just by opening notes.

- I used to have anger issues.

- I have a small dent in my head from when I was kicked during a soccer game.

This thread is, from what I can gather, just pretty much for posting ridiculous stuff and getting laughs out of it..... nobody's trying to pretend they're special...

I can get sunburned really damn easy. I mean, if I were to live in California or someplace sunny, I would have to wear sunblock all the damn time. :nope:

Good thing I live in Washington.

To jump on the bandwagon, I too have a dent in the back of my head.

No single trait is totally unique, as far as I'm aware.

To say that someone is 100% unique? That's possible--probable, even. The likelihood, the chance of someone having the exact same genetic structure as any other person... I'm not even sure if that's possible.

But to bring it to the point where someone's like "Oh my God I'm so special because I'm not like anyone else! Teehee!" That's kind of too much--I'll agree on that.

I do these to, more accurately I just drum on things.
  • #114

I tend to see the inherent beauty in everything.

Which, consequently, means I am always too busy staring at and observing everything to get any productive work done.

... This also happens to be why I started reading BCB in the first place.
  • #115

I'm always drumming my fingers too.

After I have sugar I wobble and jiggle my legs, probably to get all the sugar out. Half the time I don't even notice.

And my dents in my forehead 8-)
  • #116

I drum on stuff, too. This is because I am a drummer (ba ha ha so witty).

But to the point. It has recently come to my attention that I have eating anxiety, in which I am incredibly uncomfortable eating anywhere but a few select places with a few select people. Often, if I am forced to eat outside of my own home, I feel incredibly nauseated and/or self conscious due to what I must look like while I am eating. If out with a group of friends going to get food, I usually just take a glass of water. This has lead to a lot of suspicion that I am aneorexic, for only a few close friends have ever seen me eat, and admittedly this trait has caused me to lose weight on my already petite frame. While I wish I was not like this for I do really enjoy food (like everyone else), I am in constant fear that while eating, I will fall incredibly stomach-sick and not be able to do anything about it, possibly interrupting a good time with friends due to physical illness. For some reason, I can counter this fear by eating Starbursts, and my boyfriend usually keeps them handy just in case. I assume this is a placebo effect, but hey, what works works.

I also can hear my own heart beat constantly, but it is benign and apparently quite common.
  • #117

- I wear hearing aids
- I can see things a large distance away
- I can never do anything without doing its equal. For example, if I pop my fingers on the right hand I HAVE to do it on the left too. The same goes for certain patterns, as I have spent hours trying to get something equal.
- I have a really good memory
- I cannot use normal pencils, only mechanical ones. I guess that's weird.
- Animals will randomly follow me and love me. I "stole" (it followed me XD) a neighbors cat and it went all the way to my school with me
- I am too flexible for my own good.
Also, Stilbini, I can hear my heart beat too ( Like you said, it is common) fist bump!

whenever i'm deep in thought, i tend to accidentally say it out loud. i remember this one time in class i was thinking about tips for F2Players on TF2, and my friend sitting in front of me was like, "Dude, what are you mumbling you're freaking me out."

it was awekward
  • #119

You do that too?
My girlfriend gets creep out when I start mumbling to myself.
All I was reciting myself on what to say.
Whenever I get antsy I start to draw Taeshi beating the crap out of Suitcase for some reason....

- I rock back and forth when sitting, even when I'm not in a rocking chair.
- I suck on liquids that are in my mouth for one second before swallowing.
- I always, always talk to myself when I'm alone.
- I like to fiddle with pencils. I'll wave them around and focus on the way they "bend" and blur.
- I stutter a lot.
  • #121

The cat's gone from under my house, I'm kinda of disappointed.

I refuse to eat seafood of any kind, except the occasional fried shrimp. If I see a chipped piece on my nails, I have to take it off. Before homeschooling, I hated going to school, but if I had to go, I absolutely could not be late. Sometimes I lie for no reason. I sometimes act out action scenes when Im bored, like a gun fight or an anime style fist fight. If I dislike someone, my mind might start thinking out really sadistic scenarios. And I can think out huge storylines in my head, but writing them is nigh impossible. Its also really easy to confuse me.
  • #123

So you actually think to kill me in the most sadistic way ever?
  • #124

I have a bad habit of biting my nails, mostly when i'm trying to fall asleep, and I end up biting them until they bleed.
  • #125

Now for some actual oddities:
My upper lip is shorter than normal (I saw a doctor, it's not normal, I could get plastic surgery). To cover my teeth, my lower lip sits higher up, meaning my normal relaxed face looks like I'm frowning. Woe is me.

I can stick soda cans to my head via suction. My record for most cans is five, and my record for longest time wearing them is the entirety of the movie Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Might've been longer, but this old woman from the other side of the theatre snatched them off my head and told me I was very distracting. She was in front of me, my 'distraction' was her and her friend pointing and talking about me most of the film. Not my fault you can't pay attention.
  • #128

@skmojo
I also apparently looked pissed off when I relax my face.

Why can't I chill without people incessantly asking me what is wrong?

An instictive response when I'm waiting, or listening to someone, or just plain bored, is to start jiggling my leg... Or my arms... or my fingers. It's a deeply distracting habit for everyone else, and i have to make a conscious effort to control it. It's called Restless Leg Syndrome or some shit.
  • #130

I have a tendency to sniff my hands a lot. I have to do it covertly because it probably looks really weird, but I've always liked the smell of hands.

I also drum my fingers, but apparently everyone does that.
  • #131

i can make my breathing really shallow and quiet, i can use this to drop my heart rate after a long run or any amount of physical exercise
  • #132

Well I have actually lost my sense of smell, and consequencely haLve of my sense of taste too, and I also have the hardest times starting sentences, like the 'well' at the start of the text for example.
Yep, other than the plethora of habbits and mannerisms I have one really stands out....I LOVE SCIENCE AND ART, yep both halves of the brain.. I suck at math though.

Is there a medical term for NEVER getting mad?

No, that's completely different, everyone has a tic that they do that helps them concentrate (science shows that keeping people from tapping/chewing on their pencil or what-have-you is actually very bad for their concentration).

RLS does make you move your body parts (usually the legs), but it's because of a neurological condition that makes them feel tingly and generally uncomfortable (itch you cant scratch kind of thing). It's not caused by boredom, and can actually keep people from being able to sleep.
