If you died right now, would you be remembered?

Would you?
  • #1

only the girlfriend, immediate family and my counsellor.
  • #2

No, when I die all memories, pictures, and videos of me disappear. Its a curse.
  • #3

I guess.
  • #4

Probably, which means in a sense I wouldn't be dead. (I think a person is only truly dead once they no longer exist in the world in any form.)

But those who don't make a major mark in history will fade into obscurity eventually. Basically when everyone who knows me is dead, I will be forgotten as well. And then I will truly die.

EDIT: Even if everyone who I cared about forgot about me, I would probably still be remembered. I still remember how a kid in my middle school died. I still didn't forget just because of how out of the ordinary it seemed.

I've never done anything special, only family members would I guess. I'm not a very memorable person.

Nope.

People would probably throw a party.
  • #7

I'd be remembered by my family and friends... :/

I think that's it.
  • #8

I wish nobody would. I mean, what good does it do anybody to remember someone dead?
  • #9

For a little while.
  • #10

Nope

Now that is a neat idea. What better way to remember somebody than by having a celebration every year on the day of their expiration?

"Oh. So whos bringing me food now?"

"No one"

No, what I mean is a party celebrating my passing. As in "ding dong the bitch is dead". Then everyone would forget about me.

Probably for the best.

Id be remembered for like a week and then forgotten by all
I dont have that much of an impact on people's lives :smirk:

You will always be in Rey's heart.
  • #19

In the end, people are really only remembered for 2 things: the problems they solve or the ones they create.
  • #20

I don't want to die because I don't want people to get upset when I do, and I'm pretty sure a couple would.
  • #21

By my immediate family, yes. Everyone else, probably not so much. Maybe some friends but, no one else really. Well, at least not the people who I'd like to care about me...

/angst
  • #22

This is an awfully morbid topic. :(

I'd be remembered by my family and friends, no doubt.

I hope that somehow I'd leave a bit of an imprint, in the form of things I've done while I was alive though, even in simple ways. My dog was rescued, and we gave her a very good and happy life.

She'd also remember me.
  • #23

My family and my best friend would remember me but everyone else? maybe for some time but id be fairly quickly forgotten :x
  • #24

I hope I'll eventually do something worth being remembered for, but currently, I'll probably not be remembered outside of a year.
  • #25

Probably not any more than the next guy. I wonder just how many people can actually claim to have done something worthy of being remembered for.

Meowth, you haven't answered your own question.

If i die... well, im sure i will be remebered by my family and friends, now if i want to be remembered by the whole world i have to do something big... but i just want to be remembered by people who i appreciate
  • #27

Well, the editorial office might get even more flooded with irrelevant shit, and someone might complain, but apart from that, no, I don't think I'd be particularly missed; since my immediate family have blanked me from their lives and I don't actually know any of my distant relatives, I think the only people at my funeral would be my partner and her family.
  • #28

I can't die untill I'm world famous, untill then there is no reason to remember me. I need do somthing significant or impact somone, although I did pull a girl I liked back from a roof as she was jumping off. Saved her life. But she hates me for it.
  • #29

For a little bit. But i'm not going to go that easy. I'm going to make something of myself before I die.
  • #30

You will only be remembered by the people you've made contact with through the years directly or indirectly. Most of them will not remember you. Those who you DO leave an impression on will die themselves eventually, not likely to relate their knowledge of you to anyone else. The people that do become famous enough to leave a lasting impression will only be remembered for certain segments of recorded history until either the heat death of the universe or the recorded history itself is destroyed by accident or design.

That said, you can have a pity party about this if you want OR you can enjoy the time you have, make the best of it and try to leave the world a better place.
  • #31

That's why I wanna make an impact to improve the world
  • #32

Both "impact" and "improve" being relative to your immediate frame of reference (town, school, house and so on). For example, if I lived in, say, Manhattan, I could try improving it easily enough by volunteering but it wouldn't necessarily make an impact. Do you see what I'm saying? Here's the gist of it: you do the best you can with what you have. I don't think you have a right to complain about your situation until you get proactive about it.
  • #33

I'm not complaining about my situation, I'm saying I don't deserve to be remembered untill I do something worth remembering. I don't want to be remembered untill its notable by the world, thats my goal. And I am doing something about it. So yeah jerk I know what you mean and I understand your point, I only ask you see mine.
  • #34

In my defense, I don't think I could've gleaned all that from your last post. I do understand it though and I think I may have been trying to convey that but I may perhaps be less than articulate while taking semi-powerful painkillers.
  • #35

Naw I got ya I didn't explain well enough
  • #36

Your Percocet would miss you, Jerk~

Hmm, hard to say. I probably wouldn't be remembered by my family, since anyone immediate is growing disturbingly close to death (steadily), or is my idiot cousin - he'll die soon enough, anyway. My friends, on the other hand, I feel would remember me. I think I would be remembered positively among them, or at least I'd like to think so.

For the rest of the world, I would be mostly forgotten. For the exceptions, I don't know if they would remember positively or negatively. There are plenty of people I've met on the Internet and such that think I'm an idiot and an asshole. There are others who think the extreme opposite: that I'm overly nice. Maybe I will be remembered, people can spend there time trying to figure out what the fuck was going through my mind.

I love a good mystery.

I would, mostly because I'm kind of loud and energetic. >.>
  • #42

I'd say mainly family anf friends would remember me when I die. Mabey some of the people here would remember me as well if they found out I died, though I'd honestly wonder what they would remember me for.

I dont really think it's that people love others more when they die, but it's the fact that they didtn't love said person enough while alive. This same theory could also be said when it comes to famous people, especially actors, and musicians. It's more the fact that people then realize how much of a genious in said art that person performed in actually was, or their talent was cut short in life and had so much promise.

"You're going out with me now bitches"

Then blow the place sky high.

Some users said:

I don't fully other understand this.

Remember before MJ died. A lot of people tried to make him look horrible, or talk poorly about him. "He's a pedophile that loved to spread his white honey over little boys bums." When he died, he was praised as a legend. "Oh noes! MJ is dead! The King of Pop is dead! He was going to reform music! He was destroyed and it's not fair!" and stuff like that. (They still want to prosecute Dr. Conrad Murray over his death, which is only "scandalous" because it involved Jackson's death.) My acquaintance didn't give a damn about Micheal, but right after he died, he downloaded all of his albums and "Beat It" is now his fave song.

Osama was fully hated by nearly every single person, viewed as evil. When he died, we celebrated, but after the fucked up parties, we changed some of the story. At first it was, "Osama pulled his wife in the way and used her as a shield." Now it's, "Osama's loving wife jumped in the way of the bullet to try to protect her loving husbands who she loved and cared for soooooooo much." They even said that he was unarmed and started . They made him into man that masturbates to genocide and roasts live abortions, then they tried making him look like a poor old man*.

Spoiler

"America should thank him. If it wasn't for him people wouldn't have bind together." You can argue that (when all we did was accomplish nothing and got revenge**) and make him more benevolent, or you can just realize that he was an evil person and it's good that the fucker is dead.

Spoiler

Many people try to have the mentality of, "Speaking of the ill is wrong." Fuck the dead, they're dead. What are they going to do? Rise up and hot me for making a "Yo' Mama" joke? Get fuckin' real.
