So as announced in the news section, Veronica and I will have a table at the Supanova convention in Brisbane. It's technically November 4-6, but the artist's alley is 5-6.
You can get your tickets (cheap, cheap!) at Supanova Pop Culture Expo
Please post if you're coming or have any questions about our attendance there! We hope to meet lots of people.

Will be there on the Saturday, already have ticket and hotel booked so will be looking forward to it.
Also interested to see the new Item that you will be selling, how much should I bring to cover it? (I remember you said it was similar value to the book just wanted to make sure I don't undercut myself)

Watch as this thread EXPLODES with activity at the mention that I'll be there too, showing off the first episode of Bargain Bin!
No?
Nobody cares?
Well anyway. I will, and it will.
Also Bridgy will be around the grounds promoting her NEW COMIC©®™! So come see that too!

Well, keep in mind that we're not really planning on sharing the table, unless you just wanted us to leave some flyers on the corner or something. We learned from the Supanova with Bridgey that while it was helpful to have someone at our first convention to give us a bit of confidence, her selling sketches was kind of terrible for all of us as people didn't want to make the choice between Bridgey and Vero for sketches. And, in the end very few people commissioned Bridgey because, after all, she was sitting at a BCB table with BCB decorations and so on.
There's also a complicated dynamic re: too many people behind a table. We're not one of those massive tables with huge decorations everywhere, and I think having 3 people at once all talking to themselves also scares people away.

Oh? I was under the impression I'd just have a monitor off to the side showing the video and I'd be behind that. I wasn't aware you didn't want that?

A video is an awful idea at a convention table, Nobody will be able to hear it, nobody will be in a position to watch it, and the sound will be annoying. And I think having 3 people constantly at a table is bad. Plus I didn't opt for electricity, anyway.

I'd planned on just putting subtitles there for people to basically look at it for a minute or two and go "Oh cool". I knew sound would be an issue.
Guess I'll try and get some fliers done up then :\

I'm pretty certain it wouldn't work at all.

I don't think there's anything wrong with flyers, though I didn't realise you had to pay for electricity :-[ I assumed it was the sort of thing you could just.. get or something?
Maverik you should totes dress up as that character again because remember the last time you dressed as him? You had heaps of people interested. STEAL BRIDGEY'S IDEA.

@Taeshi
Hahahaha. Maybe! It could be fun to get dressed up again!
@SuitCase
I haven't dreamed up this idea out of the blue. I've been to a few booths that have been showcasing shows they've made etc. One year there were a bunch of guys who had storm trooper outfits and they set up a booth to promote their web series about a squad of Storm Troopers on Tatooeen or something. They had a TV set up showing the first episode on loop with subtitles. The TV draws attention, and then you explain the idea after the fact. Much in the same way that a poster of Lucy would draw attention to BCB stuff.

I'm still not convinced. Unless it's something visually appealing at a glance, I think it's very problematic to have a TV or even iPad running as a display, as it would appear amateurish and annoying since there's no real way people are going to watch it for any length of time long enough to understand or enjoy it. I also think that it's very problematic to have something so prominent on display which is utterly disconnected from the dominant part of the table. If it was a half-table setup, perhaps, but we cannot share half of our table. We have too much stuff, and we need to make back $800 or so for this to be profitable.
I've also picked up on the 3-people-at-the-table thing from experience. We learned a bunch at Connecticon.

Oh I'm not arguing that "You should let me set up a monitor on your table" etc. Just that I think you're discrediting the concept of showcasing my show in such a manner on ANY table without really understanding the mechanics of it. I don't expect anybody to stand and watch it. I expect it to act much in the same way as a page of BCB or a demo book would, in that it's eye catching and when you're explaining it, you can point at it and say "This is what it looks like."
Am I to understand that you don't want me sitting at the table at all, or just that you don't want me hanging about all day? (Just trying to figure out how I'm going to be managing my time)

I'm hoping you (and Bridgey, and Lack) can come and go throughout the day, it's boring on your own! I found that it was useful and good to have people to count on at previous cons, so don't think I expect the third chair to be empty 100% of the time. I just think it'd work out better if we didn't have someone camping out at the table 100% of the day.
As for the idea of it being showcased.. eh. I guess it's better than nothing, but I feel like it just wouldn't be optimal to show off video content at a convention at all. Do you see places selling DVDs with big monitors showing what they sell? Not generally to explain the product.. I think posters and flyers to explain things is the right way to do it, but that's just my idea of things.

Hey! It's the dude with the Sydney doppleganger! (The one with the blue hair and bought a keychain) When I got home I started reading again, got hooked. So if there's any more of the big books you had on Saturday, I'm planning on coming over to the stall and buying one on Sunday.
Yay SupaNova and Bittersweet Candy Bowl!

Hey, just wanted to say thanks guys for...well...I guess being at Supanova! It's so rare to see webcomic artists that I actually know and care about at Supanova. And I'm so glad I could get the book, I've been umming and erring about getting it and then I saw you'd be at Supanova and I knew I had to come and get one! And what did I get?

Just so you know, that's a bookmark I made for my new book!
Thanks again guys! You better come back up north when Volume 2 goes on sale!

One of the reasons I didn't get a watercolour sketch was because I wouldn't have any idea what to get, as you probably noticed!
But I really like the sketch you gave me, thanks again!

Just as a heads up, it's nice to not upload images that are that large (in both dimensions and file size). It saves people with slower connections and download limits, and it looks neater.
I resized the images for this purpose. I also re oriented the two vertical ones so they're easier to see/read at no extra charge!
Sorry I missed you at the booth I guess. I was only there for some fraction of the time so as not to "deter potential customers by having too many people around" as SuitCase would say.

Sorry, I tried myself to fix the pictures and it looked fine in the preview but, yeah, thanks for that!
Oh and yeah, it would have been good to meet you! I don't consider myself obsessive about stuff but I enjoy meeting the people who make stuff like BCB. Oh well, maybe next year??
