I went to art school for three years, that may have something to do with it. XD

But anyway so it's been awhile but the Saan model is finally finished. Now it's only the technical details to iron out and oooh goood technical details. As much as I love dicking around with file types and model size and a million other little things...

Also also also I drew a bionic jellyfish for RC because I wanted to do something nice. It made me realize, though, that I have no bloody idea how to paint digitally. I sort of just throw stuff at the canvas and cross my fingers and hope it doesn't suck. WHICH IT DOES. WHAT THE HELL, ME.

I sorely wish I had more time to work on this, but I've been too busy doing that working thing. :/

Just been skimming through and I saw this, I love it. Colours are great, this in high res would make an awesome wallpaper.
  • #153

Oh why thank you. : D

Just updating with exactly one sketch of a... Monster thingy. :U

Been fooling around with materials and rendering in ZBrush. I like the result. SAAN IS DONE FINALLY OH GOD. I bet y'all are sick and tired of seeing its silly face all the time.

Posted Image

IN OTHER NEWS I started up some new concepts. Still in the super early sketchy stage but I'm eager to start the finalized concepts.

Just a quick and messy colour sketch of Tyln.

Also I never mentioned that I'm open for commissions. I won't be doing requests anymore due to being busy with work, but here's a link to my commission info if anyone's at all interested. c:

The Awesomeness meter has exploded. Well, it exploded a long time ago when you started to post your arts. :P They all look very interesting and fun to look at. Keeeeep it up! :)
  • #157

Oh pssh. Thank you Tiggy. c:

Here's a short piece I wrote concerning two of my alien species, the chronodwellers and the dath'illyas. For the record, Rakshiv is a chronodweller, and Tyln up above is a dath'illyas. Enjoy. c:

Latest concept for DRAKE: The Madness of Kal'est. It's an illusion created by magic that explodes violently when it dies, injuring anything close.

It's all so... beautiful. In that, dark, evil way.

This is simply gorgeous :) All the coloring is so smooth and nice. I think remember you saying you used Corell Painter; Which tool/tools did you use on this particular piece?

Yes, I use Painter for everything. c:

I actually only use three different tools, mostly because if I use too many I get really confused. I use the dull conte for sketching, then the captured bristle and grainy water for the rest of everything else. It's just a lot of smooshing on colour and blending from then on. :U

Mm, I should really do another stream one of these days...

I would love to see you stream! :D I think I know which tools you are talking about...I'll experiment around. Thank you and good luck with whatever project you are working on!
  • #163

You use Painter, too? It's a wonderful program, though much too confusing sometimes due to there being a gazillion and one different tools. D:

Maybe I'll stream my next concept tonight. It's still in the sketch stage so it's pretty much being started from scratch. I'll leave a message here if I am, and on the streaming topic. c:
  • #164

I do use Painter. It's amazing with painting tools (of course) but the pen tools I have trouble with. I really want to get photoshop.
Awesome! I'll see if I can watch tonight. I may not be able to though, as homework and sleeping may get in the way. :U
  • #165

I find pen tools annoying no matter what program I'm using, but then I do more painting than I do art that requires I use the pen tool. I just... I can't wrap my mind around how to properly utilize pen tools! D:

It's all good no matter what you do, don't sweat it. c:
  • #166

I liked that writing piece.

It was a nice read.
  • #167

Your art gives me nightmares...

in a good way
  • #168

I smile every time I see these creatures you make. I can totally picture them as some dungeon enemies in a medieval/fantasy type world, especially this one. You should design some developer's horror monsters!

Spoiler

No idea what it is, but it's badass. Like some ancient temple guardian. I said it before, but your sense of silhouette and shape is pretty sweet. I can only imagine what it'd look like fully rendered out.

If I may make a comment about your painting, I've been noticing that you're giving a lot of your characters the same amount of shading all throughout. What I mean by that is that some forms look softer than they should, like areas where sharp bone is very close to the surface of the skin. When you give both soft tissue and hard pieces the same type of look, it tends to give everything equal attention, making it hard for you to direct where the viewer's eye should go. Try using a harder brush to make quick sharp strokes around those areas, because then the lighting would look more believable for that type of surface. This also works for highlights because it gives the surface a nice "pop" of light where the light is strongest. See if you can combine that with a clear light source to make things look less flat. :) (Flat lighting is possible, but it's a lot harder because you have to deal with light coming from all directions. Why do you think sunsets are more beautiful to look at than noon. ;) )

I can't call myself a 3D person, but from the perspective of your average viewer, it looks veeery nicely detailed. :) Anyway, hopefully this helped. Keep showing us more, I love 'em.

First, thanks Jack. It was a fun little piece to work on. c:

Second, you're very welcome, 1D. Nightmares are my specialty. Apparently. :P

Third, OMIGAWD. Marshmallow, do you know how awesome it is to have someone you look up to in art comment on your work and tell you you're doing alright? Seriously. You just made my night. And probably my entire next week. :'D

In response to your tips, though, thank you! I actually sort of just smooth everything right now cause I'm intelligent and I don't really know how to make different surfaces look like different surfaces all that much yet. I mean, I went to art school, but that was for 3D not for drawing and painting. I'm learning as I go! D:

I'll for sure keep that in mind for my next concept, though. It has hard bony parts and soft skin on its wings so it should be the perfect candidate for experimentation. Thank you so much! : D

Also I wrote some pony fanfiction for people who know that I write. :U
It's based around a pony OC of mine, Dusk Breeze. Read if you want to! The oneshot is called Clockwork Dreams. Because even ponies need machinery as far as I'm concerned.

Cool! Looks like something awesome from Metroid.
  • #172

You are still an amazing person

Im loving these creatures.
  • #173

The Toe Man is my favourite, really expressive and stylistic. It has an organic flow, which's impressive for something devised in a 3D environment.
  • #174

No, it's like some possessed manta ray crossed with a pterodactyl...like some mutant Cloaker
  • #175

Thank you as always, all of y'all. c:

@Dr. Klaus: What's a Cloaker? Is it from a game or something? : O

So I started a new painting of my Metroid fancharacter, Tejed. Mostly because I haven't drawn her in aaaaages and she still ranks among one of my favourite characters. I'm not too sure if I'm going to finish this painting or not, though. I'm having trouble deciding on a decent background (the colour splash is just a placeholder right now) and I feel that her head is just a wee little bit too big. Anyone have any critique they can help with? It's just... One of those paintings where right now I feel 'meh' every time I look at it. :<

Posted Image

And just for shits and giggles here's the old image I found that the above painting is based on. Wooo redrawing old dredge!

Spoiler

I like how this old picture took me hours upon hours and I felt so accomplished and proud when it was done. And the new one, so far, hast taken me not even an hour, I sort of threw colours at the canvas without care, and I hate it. YAY ME.

Hey, as long as you made it I'm fine with it, don't worry about it.
It looks awesome, thanks a lot!
  • #179

It just completely slipped my mind to post it, you know? It's been in a state of speed painterly done for a while I just... Completely forgot! I'm the most horrible artist to request from ever. I just keep forgetting about everything. D':
  • #180

Like hell you are, at least you actually did it, you just forgot about it.
I've requested stuff from people before that request, and they've yet to finish them.
Seriously, don't worry about it. XD
  • #181

Tejed kinda looks like a Quake 2 strogg crossed with an orc.

Great drawing as usual.

Also, Asura looks kinda calm :3
  • #182

Just curious, I'm wondering how the Pride is coming. Are you still on the practice stage?

No rush, I did ask you to take your time. I'm just wondering how the process is coming along (or for that matter, if you've been too swamped or not).
  • #183

I've relegated the Pride to the backburner for now, as I'm currently trying to figure out how to work some of ZBrush's features as well as other things. It's still in my mind, and I keep thinking of how I'll pull it off when the time comes, but work does come first and foremost. Sorry for taking so long to get around to these things. I'm actually kind of bad with managing my time when it comes to work and commissions and side stuff. :<
  • #184

Finished that painting of Tejed. I kind of like it. THOUGH IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.
Be a better artist, me. D :<

Oh, wowwowowowowow. Awesome, totally awesome! I'm jealous; I'd love to work in your field. I really need to get my courage together and just screw around with Painter
I especially love the Drake; I can surely see that charging at me in Mass Effect.
'Shepard leaped aside to dodge the charging mass of death, but the Drake grabbed her with its clawed hands and threw her against the wall, now crumbling from the sheer impact. The Drake bellows....'
Something like that? C:
  • #186

think you could do a big 4 legged monster based on Great Mighty Poo? by appearance, not texture, mind you XD

Well keep on drawing and you'll get better in no time. c:
And if by Drake you mean the Saan dragon, then it's already taken gamewise. XD

The Great Mighty Poo... That sounds familiar. Is it from Conker's Bad Fur Day by chance? Tell me more about what you mean and I most certainly shall. c:

In the meantime, have a bunch of sketches I finally got around to scanning!

This first one is just a headshot of an Orchaedian.

These two are Hackbot and Shepsit, a couple of characters from my Metroid fanfiction. Also there's a mochtroid. It's name is Xavier if you're wondering. It's bright pink too. :P
Posted Image

This is a mechanical mayhem gremlin from another one of my stories. Just playing around with anatomy and shapes.
Posted Image

And this last one here is an Asindi.
Posted Image
The Asindi are a highly advanced race of arboreal aliens that died out long ago due to unknown reasons. Popular speculation suggests it was an extinction event not unlike the ones that have befallen Earth multiple times, though many wonder why such an advanced race would be destroyed by so mundane a cause. Either way, Asindi artifacts can be found on virtually all worlds in their spiral arm of the Milky Way galaxy. Their most famous creations include the machine that has dubbed itself the Insanity Engine, an exploration droid that has somehow managed to stay functioning on Earth for an excess of 4 billion years, gaining sentience and will in the process. Indeed, for a race to create so successful a machine says something about their intelligence. Some think the galaxy is a far better place without so advanced a mortal race living in it, while others mourn their ancient passing as a great loss. Sadly, the bulk of intelligent civilization does not even know they existed.

why yes he is, the opera singing mountain of crap XD

what I ment was something like this:

http://fc09.devianta...ter-d4yamfh.jpg

take his upper part of body (don't think he even has lower one XD) and attach big fat limbs (with fat fingers) to support his humongus mouth-belly, which's almost dragging on the ground and possibly adding a tail on the end - think of him as a giant fat lizard
