Why?

I'm curious, what is your reason for reading Bittersweet Candy Bowl? Is it the art? The comedy, the characters, the drama, the romance, the...forums? All of the above? None of the above?

And for Taeshi (presuming she ever reads this) what motivates you to continue to write and draw the comic?

I have to admit, BCB is not what I would usually read in the way of comics, but something caught my eye about it. It's a good comic all in all, but i think it was the freeform way the forums worked. I liked it, so I stuck around a while, met people, and now I don't want to leave.

i think the story is pretty well developed. the art its neat (not furry though, i remember i discovered what "furry" is in a CSI episode, along with the word "yiff"... never been the same since then)and i love the randomess of the forums :D

I really like the drama. I thrive on it, for whatever reason. I don't even ship anything. I just sit back and enjoy the complications. Also, the art is quite nice. A bit clunky sometimes, but improving by miles with each strip. I honestly prefer the old style, though.

However, I have no clue as to why I have decided to plague this forum. It is the only one that I frequent.

I've just been doing it for so long that it has become a happy habit. When I first joined devART five years ago Taeshi was one of the first people I actually watched-watched. I wasn't a sonic fan in the least(never have been), but her personal-life comics amused me greatly and then there was the early comics of BCB. I remember finding the art style cute, the jokes funny, and the characters very likable-not to mention I've always been a dramaholic and romantic so that was probably the biggest factor for me.
In fact I was originally a pretty hardcore MikexLucy shipper, haha!
I looked forward to every chunk she released, and with them the characters, art, and drama/romance all grew and progressed. Then one day she announced how the website had been totally revamped, the pages were all cleaned up and a new digitally done chapter was out! There was the promise(that has been kept to a T!) of 3 updates a week, etcetc. Over this past year it has grown and improved so much in so many ways, and the community is great and a lot of you guys most definitely add to the whole BCB experience for me!

BLAHBLAH I've kind of grown up with it and I like DRAMA/ROMANCE <3.
I've always been a hardcore shipper, haha.

I was on SMBC once and I accidentally clicked on a side advertisement. before i exited out i started reading and became a fan. i agree with scotch though, kinda more of a fan of the old styles.

I got started reading, curious. Found myself continuing to read more and more, found I couldn't stop myself. It had a good story, gives an incredible feel good vibe with drama happening and then suddenly everything working out wonderfully. The characters actually feel real unlike most characters out there, its well drawn, cute, and I'm a massive sucker for romance. Massive, massive, massive sucker.

It just caught my attention while i was browsing the internet and I've been stuck here ever since. And I dont regret 1 bit

Some guy said 'webcomics?' And another guy said 'http colon slash slash bittersweet candy bowl dot com'

The story drew me in. I read the first few chapters just cause I was bored and thought "this is a cute comic" and as I read it, it started getting more in depth, the characters developed more, as did the story, so I was easily drawn into it. I think one of BCB's best qualities is it's cast. It's not too big like that awful Naruto anime with like, 30 characters and it's not to small with just the main cast and 2 side characters. It has just the right amount so that you get a feeling for all the characters and so that they have room to develop without looking like a clone of another character. Their all individually different (beyond physical appearance) and I think for someone to pull that off good is really cool. I love Tae's art style as well :-*

We lost a good soldier when you gave up and abandoned us. You won't be forgotten! :(

I read it particularly because I love romance and I ship MikexLucy to a hardcore extremity so I guess I also read it to see that develop (which it isn't -- positively, anyway ;_;)

That's exactly what happened to me.

I like the story, it's one of the more interesting and entertaining ones I've read so far: it makes me want to come back for more. I've read a variety of online comics with a "plot" that doesn't go anywhere interesting and I lost interest in those comics. In this comic, the plot flows and builds up and characters mature, which is why I grew attached to them :/ The art is good too, but I usually don't pay too much attention to that in a comic (unless it's too horrible to look at).

I really like the story, the characters. Alot.

Also, the forum seems to contain nice people.

Certainly does. ^_^

I am very partial to the drawing style. Originally what caught me was the monochrome style, but now that there are colours I find that they are also more than welcome. In regards to the writing, I enjoy that as well - the story is good, and has some twists and turns that keep me interested in what will happen.
  • #14

I read it cause it has cats, drama, and comedy. I also like because it's like my guidebook for high school on what to do, and what not to do. I also like talking to you people. The kids at my school are complete idiots, so I can only have a decent conversation over here. Does that make sense?

What caught my eye was that Paulo looked like Tails.
And the early art remembered me of There she is

But then BCB developed a soul of its own, and the possibility of contact with Taeshi-san, the creator, creates a great vibe.

Most of the conversations here are frightfully indecent, so it does not make too much sense. But you can have a good or interesting conversation every now and then, if the mood is right. ^_^

I learned about BCB from an advertisement on Brawl In The Family. Read the first few chapters. I thought it was funny. Several weeks later I found the site again and read the rest over the course of four days. This comic made me a better person. The characters, how they interract and the story is wonderful.
  • #18

I read it for the great story, characters and art style. I find that this comic is written so well that the characters feel real and sometimes I find myself being legitimately concerned with the well being of some characters
  • #19

I clicked on a link from another comic (not gonna say which cuz I should really stop doing so) out of sheer boredom, and started reading from the beginning, and was pretty much instantly hooked. I really like... well, pretty much everything about this dang comic. It is just plain awesome.

I am also in the same boat as Scotch; out of all the things I love and follow ever so closely, THIS is the only place where I even TRY to get involved in the forums and stuff. I have no idea why. There's like a half dozen places I should be wrapped up in the forums at, but this place is just too awesome I guess ;)

The thing that kept me reading through the first 10 mins was the humor. The thing that kept me reading for the next few hours was the angsty drama. (I find angst to be funny) You start to actually care about what happens to the characters in the story.

I only started foruming like 3 days ago when I saw the big old "Rawr Fan characters must die" debate. Debates are a great source of lolz.
  • #21

I read BCB because I've been reading it for too long to not read it.
  • #22

I'm a sucker for angst, and now you are all stuck with me!
  • #23

I read it for the story, the good character development it has, the art, the humor, and how some of the situations the characters are put in are similar to ones that many high school students go through.
  • #24

I read bcb beacause it's sooo cute! And the comedy and dramaaa. 8-D
  • #25

I actually hate cats with a firey passion because they are like bitchy dogs that hate being seen. I mean a single guy with a dog really isn't that bad but a single guy with a cat just freaks me out.

acutally single guy with dog is not bad at all, Gran Torino and I am Legend had single dudes with dogs and they were BAMFs. im just still waiting for that intense action film where it is the single guy.....with a cat

My cat is a huge bitch, so I agree with you there. But my dog freaking rocks in every way, so I don't see how you can possibly compare them. Dogs are just cool.

I found BCB by clicking on an ad late at night on Fireball 20xl and read the first few chapters, next thing I knew was it was 6 AM and I had only done about 25 chapters. The thing that keeps me coming back is the drama(I'm a sucker for drama :)), and so here I am today.
  • #29

Found BCB on a link from another comic I read. Forgot which one it was, though. XD
I stay for the artwork and the humor, and must admit that the drama is really well done, and doesn't seem forced at all. BCB's a thousand times better than TV!

Besides that, some of the previous chapters remind me of my freshman year in high school in an abstract way.

Not really sure what it is about it. Maybe just that a few parts of it are exactly like my life (obviously a high-schooler), and that it actually has a constant, set update schedule unlike most others I read. Plus I like the art.

SEE! THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT! THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I HATE ABOUT THE PUBLIC OPINION OF A FURRY IS! ITS A FUCKING STERYOTIPICAL PERSON WHO LIKES HAVING SEX IN A COSTUME! THIS IS WHY I HATE PEOPLE! *drops mic 50cent style* (actually this is only one of many reasons why I hate people, another reason is no one has morales anymore... The fuck.)

Also I believe I have a thread very similar to this... I... Think...

Yeah, I thinks it's estimated around only 10% of self identified 'furries' are actually into fur suiting.
  • #34

It had cats, sarcastic humour and romance.

I am just a sucker for drama, I found this comic on an ad somewhere, and completely fell in love with it, the characters, the drama, and the story. Also, I totally agree with you Kekon, the whole "sex in a animal costume" is a terrible stereotype. Not to mention, why does it matter if someone does like that? I mean, there is MUCH more creepy things going around and people just go with it, but the furry stereotype seems to have become the butt of all jokes ever.
