I remember reading that one, best manga I have ever read. Even to do this day, even better then Death Note in my mind. The way it takes you up and down with each character is crazy. The ending was prefect too. You make me want to reread it now.

It's actually four series in a row. It goes Getter Robo, Getter Robo G, Shin Getter Robo, and Getter Robo Go. It's actually not finished, the next one is Getter Robo Arc, but that's not translated yet.
Here's the first one (Getter Robo)

There's an anime adaptation that adapts he first 26 or so chapters, but these chapters are scrambled. It doesn't make a difference, because the stories are mostly self-contained and only occasionally link to another. This also means that there are very few recurring characters outside of Ginko. It's worth checking out.

Tried reading "first girl" liked the smut, but the story line was very minimal, and incredibly hard to follow; had to quit that one.
Private prince is very fluffy, but not bad. If you've enjoyed "absolute boyfriend" you'd probably enjoy it, although there is some more smut.
Anyone have a suggestions for a pleasant romance manga with some adventure or supernatural stuff mixed in? I don't usually like reading plain old romance manga, not enough stuff going on
As for mushishi, I highly recommend checking that one out, it's really neat, a different concept.

Now, I'm really big on fantasy manga. And not just any fantasy manga, either. I love near-surreal fantasy manga. After all, one of the first manga that I read was Jing: King of Bandits. The art for March Story is just fantastic and it gives it it's own special feel. The concept of March Story may not be as interesting as that of Jing: King of Bandits, which the manga is most similar to in terms of feel, but it's good nonetheless. The story follows March, a hunter of these monsters called Ils. Ils reside inside objects and are activated by a strong sense of desire. Again, it's not the most original concept for a story, but it works with how it is delivered. Throughout the story, March helps other people with thei Il woes and many of the story archs focus more on March's clients. However, there are several chapters where March and company get to shine. March is just so wonderfully adorable when letting her guard slip, and the large and terrifying Jean is much kinder than she looks and a complete badass when she gets to fight Ils. There are a lot of romance themes in it as well. In the second chapter, March helps out a girl when the man she loves becomes an Il. In the second chapter, an Il hasn't completely possessed the human host and is only trying to fulfill a promise. It's a manga definitely worth looking into if you're into fantasy.

Do you care for harem manga and the antics (shameless fanservice) that go on in them? If so try Mahou Sensei Negima, a Great manga that I need to get back into(got busy lost my links etc...). I'm sure you've read Fruits Basket though, that's a good one

Death Note
Inuyasha
Full Metal Alchemist
Elfen Lied

As for what I'd specifically recommend, Vagabond is fantastic if you want great art and a epic samurai story.
Of course, Berserk. Because it's Berserk.
And Zippy Ziggy was pretty entertaining if you're just after cheap laughs.
I'm loving this whole thread thought. Finding some great stuff through here.

Baccano!
Dennou Coil
Full Metal Alchemist
The World God Only Knows
Death Note
Persona 4 The Animation
Manga (in order):
Pokemon special (I only got past the yellow arc, for now it's on an indefinite hiatus)
The World God Only Knows (Yeah, I read the manga and watch the anime. It's just that <3)
I've actually read and watched a lot more than that, but these are the only ones that I've stuck with... The furthest I got with a dropped anime was "Reborn!" 19 episodes, but it got so rote and repetitive that I got tired of it. And someone was like "there's a genre shift in a few seasons!" I was thinking that I would never survive through that many episodes to get there.
Anime and manga is a good diversion, and also some of the best stories I've ever witnessed. I also wish I could draw like the mangaka from TWGOK, but, well, that's never going to happen because I don't practice.

Also, has anyone else been following Upotte!! ? I think I can honestly attest that I, and many non-Japs who have watched it, never expected a moeblob girls-who-are-actually-rifles anime to be nearly as engaging as it is.

This is from the same studio that made Cowboy Bebop and Trigun, I think.
Edit: Nope, they only did one episode for CB. The director did Samurai Champloo.
You guys should watch this show though, if it wasn't already mentioned.

When it comes to anime, it was Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Alchemist and FMA:Brotherhood(Brotherhood was better IMO), Outlaw Star, Black Lagoon, Hellsing, Code Geass, Guren Lagann, Spice and Wolf, Soul Eater, Ghost in the Shell, Persona 4, Fairy Tail, ONE PIECE and anything that ran on Toonami way back when.
I don't buy anime, but there is one exception and can you guess which one?

Also, just looking at the synapse of Sakamichi no Apollon makes me a little sad... they fill out enough anime/manga tropes within the first two lines of the wiki page to make me cringe. (Childhood friend, main character lives away from parents, main character is kind of introverted)

Then they moved to Friday nights, I think? That's where they threw out Yu Yu Hakushou and Rurouni Kenshin; I remember very minor edits, if anything in most of the anime Toonami ran. Whenever I heard a swear, or saw some curb-stompping violence, I remember thinking, 'Awesome.'
But back then, anime wasn't as popular as it is now...

Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, Z,Kenshin and Yu Yu good old times.
Though sorry I can not agree with you on the One Piece thing. I thought it was alright at first, but then after a bit it just turned into, for lack of better word crap for me.
I don't think anime changes that much in popularity. You just have to find the right crowd of people. That's my two cents anyway.

The Haruhi Novels are great. I'm waiting on them to release the next one in English. I keep hoping that they are doing well enough that they bring over some other light novels. I'd like to see the Magical Index or Baka and Test light novels brought over.
I'm rather fond of the various Tenchi stuff myself. The original and Universe I really like. Tokyo not so much it was a little different from the other two. I actually own the entirety of the Tenchi stuff on DVD.

I enjoyed the original Dragon Ball, too, it had more innocence to it that I liked. While I can sometime empathize that somethings felt overdone in Dragon Ball Z, that didn't bother me nearly as much as the copy-paste scenarios that I only started to notice a few seasons in; it was repetitive as hell, almost as bad as Pokemon. I mean, the characters were cool and all, but you can only stomach so much of the same dribble over and over again:
1.bad guy shows up
2.someone dies
3.seek loophole to use dragon balls to get 'im back
4.seek loophole to get really really strong in a short period of time (dead guy(s) training with King Kai, for example)
5.resurrect dead guy
6.stomp bad guy (after fighting his bazillionth form)
7.repeat
This only really occurred to me around the time the Androids and Cell showed up (I WAS YOUNG AND NOT OBSERVANT!).
Though, I still enjoyed a lot of the fighting, like with Vegeta when he arrived on Earth or the fighting with Frieza.

I'll put it this way: someone who deserves to get the shit kicked out of him is going to get the shit kicked out of him. Imagine a fully-armed commando versus a kid with only his bare hands. Now, this kid? He has killed grown men, stronger men, smarter men, with no training and no weapons. When you see him walking towards someone and you know he's angry, you know he is going to WRECK THEIR SHIT.
