What would you choose to be socially acceptable?

So if you could choose to make ANYTHING socially acceptable, what would it be?

I don't know if it's because of my area, but I'd like for it to be more acceptable to help a homeless person. I know people are cautious because they're strangers, but I've met homeless people that are genuinely in need of help. Sometimes all they ask for is food. I always try to offer some change or even a dollar, but if I'm out with friends or family they would always tell me to ignore them. :(

I wanted to think of something more interesting but I'm running on two hours of sleep here, haha XD

Id like it to be more acceptable to beat up idiots.

I would choose homosexuality to be socially acceptable

The majority of users on this forum and the entirety of the users in the Ponies thread.

And by "socially acceptable," I mean "not idiots, faggots and manchildren."
  • #4

Homosexuality isn't socially acceptable? I thought it has gotten to the point where no one gives a crap about it anymore.

Anyways, I would chose to be able to tell off a customer when they are blatantly wrong and purposely being obnoxious to you to piss you the hell off. If only I could yell at them... If only...

I want it to be socially acceptable to sing loudly in public spaces. I know this is more a personal wish, but it would be really fun to just sing whatever song is on your mind without getting looks.

This.

This happens to me all the time - If I hear a catchy song, I'll be singing it aloud all day, and getting uncomfortable looks from people. It's rather awkward.

Agreed. When I'm around in school, the halls become filled with the desperate cries of my peers.
"Dude! SHUT UP!" >:O

Ok, kind of an exaggeration, but the point is, I agree with you. :x

Aww you can totally enjoy Pokemon still! People pretend like it's a bad thing, but deep down they hide in their closet with all the lights turned off and play Pokemon while eating cookies.

Except Pokemon Black and Pokemon White. Abominations I say.

Burping and flatulence. Sometimes it's just too uncomfortable to hold it in. There is a reason the body has those mechanisms. I'm just trying to maintain homeostasis, man.

Being a white person

Hey, I'm being serious: I can't say anything about anyone that might have to do with race.
Even just saying, "Greg is the black guy" if I'm trying to point out Greg in a bunch of white, Asian and native dudes might get me called a racist
That is bullshit!
Bullshit!
Also, white dudes aren't getting hired because companies don't wanna look racist!
White males aren't accepted or are rarely accepted to be cops anymore for the same reason.

We can't just swing the pendulum to the other side and descriminate against white people, we gotta meet in the middle for everyone

Tabris has a huge point here.
  • #15

Um, thanks ^_^
I was sure I'd be called a racist for saying that...
I have a lot more examples of people being racist just in general, but no one bats an eye because they aren't white
It's just not cool

I want everyone to be the same to everyone else

Except retards, I want my ridiculous fear of the them to be socially acceptable.
I have a phobia, I am not proud of it
  • #16

Nah. I wouldn't call you racist at all. It's true enough. Everyone should be equal. I've never really thought badly of someone because of their skin color. I have, however, thought badly of them for proving the stereotypes true.
  • #17

I think that's completely justifiable
Everyone is equal until proven to be guilty degenerate

I hear you. I have to deal with the same thing, whereas a black guy I know once described me with, and I quote, "Man, dude, that nigga stinks! That nigga smells like shit! Don't go near that nigga, that nigga'll blow your nose off!"
...EXACT QUOTE. >:O BTW, I was smelly because it was PE and I was sweating like a waterfall.
I realize he wasn't actually using the word with it's original meaning, but if I called another white guy a nigger, I'd be called a racist in less than a second.

Really? Around where I live, everybody loves pokemon, regardless of age. My 8 year old sister and I discuss it frequently, and I also talk about it with my friends and even strangers. Maybe it's different in some places.

Racial jokes to be socially acceptable.
  • #20

If ANY white person says the word nigga, you're automatically a horrible racist person. But black people are allowed to use it however they please.

As far as the Pokemon thing goes, I don't have enough friends who like video games to even discuss it with. I personally really like Pokemon. (Just not Black and White.)

Anything after the Gold/Silver era are abominations :'C bahah.

In all seriousness, I agree, though it's not too much of an issue here. I've only had one instance where someone was watching me play on my DSi sarcastically ask, "What are you playing, POKEYMANS?!" No.. I was playing Ghost Trick :<

Implying white people are actually being persecuted is just one of the biggest piece of bullshit I've seen in a long time

It would just be better to make all races socially acceptable, because no matter how many rights you believe black people or asians or whatever have, it is not nearly as equalised as white people.

Nigga with an -a, you're A-OK. Nigger with an -er, you've gone too far.

I'd like for it to be socially acceptable to be politically incorrect in general. When a bunch of people have a stupid idea, someone should be able to say, 'hey, that's retarded, cut it out'. Nowadays no matter what someone believes or thinks we have to turn a blind eye because we don't wanna offend them? Half of the time they only get that bad because we ignore them. Just an example, but when Obama was first made president, and there was the 'where's the birth certificate? HE'S A KENYAN MUSLIM TERRORIST COMMUNIST NIGGER" fiasco, I wanted so bad for Barack to have a press conference and call them out. Instead, I still know people who believe he's a secret Muslim spy. Still.

HeartGold and SoulSilver were great in my opinion.

Taeshi, maybe it's just instances back in my old city or something, but being a white person meant you couldn't say anything remotely offensive to a black person. I asked one guy in my math class to stop obnoxiously rapping because I couldn't focus on my work (He did this every day the entire class period.) he accused me of being racist. I asked the teacher to move me and the teacher refuse. I asked the teacher to make him stop rapping and he refused. I finally had to be moved to an entirely different period to escape it. Several other students had to do the same. Things like that happened at my school all the time.

Granted, since I've moved and now attend college I haven't had any sort of trouble with this. I assume it's because that was High School. I guess I should've clarified that it's a bigger issue with the younger generation. (At least it was for my duration of High School.)

It depends. Usually its the other way around, but yet, white people do get treated worse in some situations.
  • #28

As one white person to another, yes it's retarded, but suck it up. When they start calling for our blood in the streets I'll sympathize.

Reverse racism is very retarded, but whites can hardly be called oppressed. It's easier to just wanna be equal than to say you wish whites were treated better than they are.

Also, I wish it was socially acceptable to like the newer Pokemon games within the Pokemon fandom. I couldn't care less if someone gave me looks for liking Pokemon, because Pokemon is still awesome. However, it's still annoying being thought of as some trend following n00b for playing Black and White and not just Red or Silver over and over. :/
  • #29

I don't think anyone implied that whites were horribly oppressed or that just whites need to be treated better.

Also, Black and White are terrible games. I very much enjoyed Platinum. I just cannot stand Black and White at all.
  • #30

it's not the African Americans where i am, it's the Native Americans, but on that note, it's also out fault for letting the government continue to enable them to live off of us, rather than forcing them to be functioning members of society or to actually truelly live as their ancestors did in order to celebrate their culture.

it's a big issue in manitoba.

also, i really liked diamond and silver, personally

Yeah, my point is not "white people should deal with getting persecuted because black people have dealt with more of it!", I just think it's absurd to assume white people have even scraped the surface of racial inequality, they have always consistently been on the top. Some people might discriminate against white people, but that's a case of terrible discrimination that nobody should deal with. It's another can of worms if you're giving off the assumptions that the tables have totally turned. Because it absolutely hasn't and is nowhere near that kind.
  • #32

You know I'd also make it okay to sip juice as a teenager. Seriously, if you drink fruit juice from a container through a straw at high school you'll get all kinds of weird looks and DAMNIT I LIKE MY APPLE JUICE.
  • #33

On the subject of prejudice against white people. While in the situation of not being able to say certain words it makes sense different sources for information can be perceived differently. That is understandable. People not liking white people or putting stereotypes on them will always happen no way to really stop it. Yes people do ignore prejudice against white people more then they do black, but when that happens no one is really afraid it is going to go farther then harsh language.

As with most things in life it is only a problem when it is taken to an extreme. Setting quotas for the diversity of your staff I understand the intent behind it, but when you choose your worker solely because of his ethnicity it is racism regardless of the ethnicity of the person not getting the job. Also being called a racist for anything against someone of another race is getting ridiculous. I once told someone I didn't like them and they instantly used "What are you racist?" as a response.

Tabris: It isn't that the government isn't "forcing them to be members of society", which a phrase I dislike anyways - forcing someone to contribute unwillingly is in the long run counter-productive.

They (the remote rural reserves, that is) have no running water, they're isolated, and are born in to rampant alcoholism and poverty. They have to get their food trucked in every few weeks, meaning that if there isn't enough, they're screwed. In that case, it's not racism, it's absolutely justified - it was caused by the residential schools set up by people trying to 'civilize' them in the 60's.

I wish it was socially acceptable to tell Stephen Harper "Hurry the fuck up and do something about it."

Unfortunately, I can't swear at MPs, let alone the Prime Minister.

I didn't mean to imply it was as if whites were being persecuted like other races have. I should have clarified that. It was more or less just general annoyance that some races are allowed to do things, but if another race does it, it's something terrible. Sorry about the misunderstanding.
  • #36

Minty, that's still a somewhat terrible way of wording it.

Man, it's so hard being white.
  • #37

To get off the topic of race (because that's a sticky tar pit subject), I wish it was more socially acceptable to have a dark sense of humor. Either everything goes or nothing does, I'm tired of having to be all hush hush about things. I'm not saying I should be allowed to blatantly attack some stranger because he's in a wheelchair or anything (you'd be surprised how many people assume I mean stuff like that). But goddamnit, if I get on an office chair and race him down the halls making engine noises, don't gasp and hold your hands to your mouth like I just teabagged the guy.

If your chair flips, you will be teabagging the guy XD

Another thing that I wish was was socially acceptable was silence. It seems to be, for most people, socially unacceptable to allow a silence to sit - if you do, you're labeled as boring.

They did.

Then rap was invented.

I'm not saying that they can't do it, or even neccesarily that they shouldn't - it's their choice. I'm saying I wish it weren't socially acceptable so I wouldn't have to listen to generic crap.

Agreed on that one.

On a different note just say black person, calling us African Americans is what people do to sound less racist and they end up sounding more raciest because they are trying to avoid it. Most black guys don't like the political term, just black guy will do fine.

Also though I don't really care, saying nigga,nigger,negro,nigra,nig-nog, none of them are acceptable in most places(Though like I said I don't care)

Anyway I wish it was socially acceptable to openly share with people the things you like that would considered "wrong" or "stupid"
  • #47

I wish it was socially acceptable for me to like cats as a man. People give me looks when I say I prefer them. Never understood why either. Its not like they're cute and cuddly all of the time or even most of the time. Ever seen a cat play with a mouse?
  • #48

What the hell is a nig-nog? Some weird form of eggnog?

Anyways. I wish it was socially acceptable to discipline children without CPS being called.
  • #49

inb4: "I wish it were socially acceptable to shitpost"

Okay, now for my serious answer:

I'd like for art to be more socially acceptable. Think about how art in most capitalist societies is not seen as a viable source of income despite how different forms of art are present in almost everything ranging from industrial design to entertainment. If you go into art, no matter what field you're planning on going into, you're branded by a huge chunk of society as having a "useless, unmarketable skill".
