What would you choose to be socially acceptable?

I wish it was more socially acceptable to hug those of the same gender.

At school, it's not a problem, really.
But do it at the mall and people start asking you to kindly leave because their children are there :/

I would like for accidents to be socially acceptable. Not once have I made an accident and it's not came back to embarrass me through my peers' and others.

Oh dear, you haven't been housebroken yet? :(

This guys gets it, wacko. HE FUCKING GETS IT.

I suppose I should re-phrase that. I meant as in getting an answer wrong after raising your hand, or saying something wrong, as in "I'd like to ram you". That shit's embarrassing.
  • #104

That shit is embarrassing. I can't tell you how red in the face I am after accidentally proclaiming my hidden desires to copulate with my peers.

How do you make a mistake like that. There's a difference between giving the wrong answer to a history question and just plain being gross and tactless
  • #106

well, I'm hoping he's referring to a Freudian Slip...
  • #107

Refering to nature boy things. I've had ram like fights with friends.

you DO know I'm talking about head butting and such...right?
  • #108

Differences:
Rapist - "I'm going to fuck you."
Aggression - "I'm going to fuck you up."

I don't know why you would use "ram" to refer to butting heads but it very much makes you sound like a butthead.
  • #109

That's the problem with English... and like every other language in the world

XD

My mom calls me a butt head.

Profanity.

If profanity becomes regular, then the offensive, negative connotation goes away. Problem solved.

I had the opposite problem. My parents used to think any guy I hugged was my boyfriend (this started in elementary)..though they are very old fashioned. Where are you from? :0

Regular profanity is already boring. All the cool kids make up complex obscenities and blasphemies these days.

Poppycock, I say to that!

What's reddit?
  • #117

A likely story.

Anyway, it should be more acceptable to be an artist without the connotations of a useless snobby self righteous prick who will never contribute anything to society.
  • #118

@Above: Is there... really a stereotype like that? :< I've never seen it when people show off their work... Not anywhere. People are either like "oh, that's very good!" or "hmmm... this area could use improvement." But I've never seen anyone go "oh, you're one of those. Don't quit your dayjob, dick." ;;
  • #119

It exists :(
  • #120

A lot of people don't consider art respectable or a viable area to go into. We're not contributing to society and we have useless skills, why don't you get a job where you earn REAL money and do REAL things.

Artists also get a bad rep due to the few egotistical pompous (and loud) self-proclaimed geniuses that feel art is the ONLY true measure of a person and they are, therefore, better than you commoners with your engineering degrees. It's easy for people on the outside to assume that we're all pretentious cockwaffles.

Okay so I looked it up, and no, I never really used reddit. But they seem to have some pretty interesting stuff so I think I'll be checking it out more. I guess there's a forum there too or something?

Anyway I agree, Bourbon - I'm currently in the art field (animation) but even before I made the decision I was constantly degraded for even thinking about pursuing anything art related. I don't consider myself pretentious, but I agree that some people who do art can come off that way, too (but that can be said about any field). It's just sad how we're generalized as such sometimes.

I was a bio major for about three years of my time in college before I switched to psychology, for the sake of getting my degree. People have always enjoyed my sketches and drawings but every time I brought up doing art as a career, it was like some form of disgrace or something. It didn't help that the majority of my relatives and what not were all doing something medical related.

"You won't make a lot of money"
"How can you make a living out of art?"
"You should do something more..practical."
"But you're so smart. Why don't you do medicine or something?"

What a lot of people don't realize is that a lot of those who go into art don't do it for the money - they ENJOY their work, despite how difficult it can be. They don't say "starving artist" for nothing. I think it goes the same for writers, singers, musicians, etc. God forbid people actually care about loving their work more than making money.

Happiness above wealth!? You anarchist heretic.

But that's another thing--society in general sees money as an accurate judge of good character. Which is really, really stupid. People equate wealth to happiness and when they're not happy, even when they have all the money in the world, they'll wonder why.

And then realize money is only one means towards happiness. Not an end.

I would choose to make the worlds biggest pinball machine big enough for the Big Friendly Giant to play to his hearts content as the Blue Angles and the Thunderbirds have a dogfight to the death while a monkey is dancing ontop of the Empire State Building.

Never saw your post, sorry. XD

Anyway, that really sucks. I have lots of friends who are girls with overprotective dads/parents. (Never just moms... hmm...)I'm from Canada, but I'm in Virginia as of current.
