VIDEO GAMES I know you play them, don't lie to me!

Anyone in this thread ever played the Golden Sun series?

I've played through Golden Sun: Dark Dawn twice now. So awesome, especially since they finally corrected the whole "if the thing you were going to attack dies before you can, you do nothing" problem by doing an automatic target redirect.

Oh god. Phoenix Wright. I swear I am this close to buying a DS just for that damn series.

You really need to. They are spectacularly awesome, brilliant witty dialogue, excellent courtroom scenes and genuine puzzles that can only be solved by close observation of all the evidence. The only bad thing i can think of is that sometimes you do wander about, trying to trigger the next event. But next to awesome dialogue, its only a niggling thing! :D

I still need to find the time to play the DS game. Got it close to release just to make sure i'd even find a copy at all.

I'd wager that mechanic in the GBA games had to do with the fact that the series is a throwback to RPGs of old.
  • #204

Yeah, that feature was existent in the original Final Fantasy, but was corrected in Final Fantasy III (Japanese III, not American III, which was actually VI.)

I'm going back through the GBA games on ROMs because I never quite got to the end of them.

Dead space 2 Zealot difficulty isn't really that hard if you aim right and upgrade you weapons and stasis, chapter 14 and 15 is the only gay crazy part

Running makes chapter 14 and the early parts of chapter 15 a breeze. It's what I did in Zealot, so I should know. :smirk:

I'm going through my Hardcore run now, making my first save at the first save point you reach in Chapter 7. Next save point would be before the drill ride. Goddamn Lurkers.

The game I play for now, you can get to through the link below. It's a fun rpg that's challenging and presents opportunity for collecting things (Ive been a collector for a long time and that's probably why Pokemon was so appealing to me when it first came out). Sorry, but it's the only game I'm playing except for during spring break and holidays until I'm done acing my physics class...

I was inquired why I disliked Final Fantasy 13 in the Video Game Movies thread, I'll answer here, if you guys don't mind:
(Please keep in mind that the statements below are entirely only my opinions 8-D )

FFXIII is beatiful. It's shiny, it sparkles, it sends your aesthetic meter to the roof. But it's looong corridors one after another, you have basically 3 choices in the game:
1- go ahead and fight monsters,
2- go ahead and fight monsters,
3- go ahead and fight monsters. :/

The whole plot of the game happened before the actual playable game (that's not a bad thing) and there are too few awesome things happening in its 40~60 hours of gameplay (apart some flash backs).

The combat is really cool, but if the enemies were a little less vicious, we could actually chose what we wanted, and not spam X (or A, in XBox 360) all of our lives.
It's OK that if we die in a fight, we'll be back right before we fought it, and it's fine (though not cool) that we get our whole life back after a fight, but... Why the heck when my party leader dies, it's Game Over? I know it would make the game too easy otherwise, but... That's somewhat frustrating >_<

The game doesn't make us feel like protecting Coccon at all. In fact, by the end, I was hating all those stupid citizens. But alas, that's not a main problem.

Pulse. It's big, it's open, it's... full of absolutely nothing.
Spoiler

To top it all off, the ending plot.
Spoiler

I know I simplified much, but it really comes down to it...

So, if you can open my eyes to a wonder that I couldn't see, please do. I beg you ._.

Hey Lycan, if you want to play a really good Final Fantasy game on a console, you can't go wrong with Final Fantasy IX. If not a console, 1+2, 4, 5, and 6 are all available on GBA.

I just started retrying IX. I just remembered HOW GREAT IT IS <3
  • #209

@Lycan
There are a lot of flaws in FFXIII. Since I'm a trophy whore, I'll have to mention that the biggest flaw is gil farming. Why the hell don't monsters drop gil? And why is the only substantial income obtained from Adamantoises? I mean seriously. It took me at least 10 hours JUST to level my Fang's Kain's Lance to * and Hope's and Vanille's Nue and Nirvana to a respectable level (somewhere above 85). Another 10 hours were spent farming more ingots for buying catalysts. Worst part is that in those 20 hours, I killed 1 monster type over and over again. It was just incredibly tedious that I sometimes let my kid bro farm for me. Oh, and before you criticize me, no, I'm not an FF fan.

Anyway, in other games, I'm currently now in Chapter 11 of my Hardcore run in Dead Space. Not before the drill ride though. I pussied out and decided to save shortly after SPOILER I got out of the Ishimura. SPOILER
  • #210

The one thing I like about FFXII: They named a lance after Kain, the best Dragoon in the entire series. Of which there's only 3, and the other two (Kain's father Ricard Highwind from Final Fantasy II, and Freya Crescent of Final Fantasy IX) are tied for second right behind him.
  • #211

Oh crap we're getting into Final Fantasy now. Put on your big kid gloves ladies and gents, it's about to get rough.

Here's my story with this beast. My first experience was a rental of VI on SNES having only known of the name via an old atlas thing i had talking about the launch library of the SNES. Didn't get it and sucked because i was bad at RPGs. At some point i arbitrarily watched my cousin playing VIII, thought it looked awesome. I was aware of VII of course, but didn't particularly care. Bought my own copy of VIII, liked it a lot. Eventually bought an old rental copy of VII some-freaking-how as well as the PS1 versions of... well, everything else, until the DS versions of III, IV, and Chrono Trigger, as well as the PSP versions of I, II, and soon to be IV. Later still i would gain access to X, X-2, and XII. (Screw XI, will get XIII sometime soon.) I find them all at least enjoyable.

It's hard for me to really DISLIKE a game. There are better ones in a series than others, but i don't call a game total crap because of a detail out of line or whatever.
  • #212

I like most of the games, even though I find one or two things I don't like (FFII's progression system, FFIII's difficulty curve, FFVI's difficulty to gather all magics...) but there's only two of the games that I have played that I don't like any of, except the music (all FFs have good music).

FFVII: Materia system was annoying, not as good as the Esper system of VI, or the item system of IX. Hell, I even liked II's system more. Also, the characters. Were any of them NOT bosnian and/or adolescent? No. Not even Red XIII. I thought he was awesome for a while, but then his hometown turned him into another dumb teenager.

FFXII: Two things: Main character is completely unrelated to the plot. And the License Point system? VGCats can do explain that one for me: VG Cats - Error 404, Update does not exist
  • #213

Oh yeah! Just finished my Hardcore run on Dead Space 2 and snagged my 30th platinum! :D Not without a few hitches though. I died right after I killed the final boss. Yeah, very stupid of me. Wound up right before I do step 3 again. That's what I get for celebrating prematurely. :P
  • #214

Global Agenda is pretty good so far. My main complaint is they have it set up so you have to level to play the other game modes.

Weirdly enough, the game has some parallels to Team Fortress 2, which I wasn't expecting. There's a little bit of MAG in there too.

Idk, I'll give a more in depth review of the game when I further in.

Terrible terrible news there making a new Spyro the dragon game. If that isn't bad enough its being made by Activision. Here is the article New Spyro game announced, will interact with toy line - Destructoid

And here is a picture for the reading challenged.

As a person who grew up with and has fond memories of playing the original Insomniac spyro games I must say. What. The. Fuck. :nope:

Spyro 2 was the best of them all. I still actually have 1 and 2 even though my PS1 and it's memory card burnt out long ago.
  • #217

Well while the topic of FF is still floating around out there does anyone out there think that Snow from FFXIII looks like seifer from FFVIII or is that just me?

Oh god what the fuck did they do to Spyro?! He's supposed to be cartoonish and spunky!!

On another note, anyone else agree that Steiner from FFIX is ugly as hell? Seriously!

I got one better, The Queen(Garnet's Mom) is fugly as hell.
  • #223

That goes without saying. I was kinda glad she died so i wouldn't have to watch any more FMVs of her face.

What the hell is up with Kuja's frame? Garland must have been on drugs when he created that, because he looks like a damn hermaphrodite. At least Zidane is awesome.
  • #224

Oh god how did Beatrice ever fall for him, an I always laugh at Kuja I seriously thought he was a girl when I first saw him. My favorites from that game were zidane, vivi, and it's a tie between eiko an freya. I always thought the FINAL final boss in that was kinda a let down and they shoulda just stopped with Kuja cause I thought he was harder than that other guy. Final fantasy 9 is by far my favorite not only cause it was my first final fantasy game it was also very fun (ps I got a gold chocobo it's so easy yet challenging I loved it)
  • #225

Just beat Infamous being good and my only problem is that the story did conclude itself well.

Honestly, I'm so disappointed by Dark Dawn, I can't bring myself to finish it. The story is just thrown together and the dialogue is just plain childish compared to the rest of the series. I swear, it feels like the game is talking down to me sometimes... Also, getting two water adepts within two or so hours of each other? Bullshit. Also hate the 3d look of it. Had they kept the original style and spruced it up, it would've been amazing. ALSO hate the puzzles being so damn easy. I mean, insight psynergy? Really? I will give it this though: the battle scenes look really great but, that's about it. Overall, the wait wasn't that worth it...

Well Spyro has gone through 3 studio changes from his original three games. The original company Insomniac didn't want to make anymore Spyro games because they said there was nothing else they could really do more with Spyro so they moved onto Ratchet and Clank.

The new one is made by Activision who only cares about money so they are probally planning on riding on nostalgia sales. Also if you read the articles there is something about tie in toys that you have to type a code in on so they are just really trying pull as much money out as they can. Spyro hasn't been good since the third game the fourth was ok, but it had horrible controls no story was extremely buggy and not made by Insomniac. Then the new serious had hope but there was no real reason for it to be a Spyro game

Goddamnit Insomniac. Why can't you be cool like Sucker Punch? They made the Sly Cooper series (which was AWESOME), then went on to make a completely different style game (inFamous), then went back to make another Sly game (a trailer for Sly 4 is in the PS3 Sly Cooper collection).
  • #232

Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie were probably the best games I ever played.

But they are pretty old. If not, These Time I play Guitar Hero/Rock Band Or Magic The Gathering duels of the planeswalkers.

I have over 60 games only counting Wii and Ps3 so it's hard to tell which is the best

Well insomniac said they didn't know what else to do with him since he didn't have hands he could only do a little. Also their then publisher owns the rights to Spyro so they couldn't even if they wanted. Also Insomniac made resistance too. Sucker Punch, Naughty dog, and insomniac are similar.
  • #234

ROFL Spyro has been headbutting too much?
  • #235

True. Spyro is a dragon, there's not much else for him to do that isn't just flying around breathing fire and stuff.

Yes, all three of those are 3rd parties known for being loyal to Sony, like HAL Labratories (of Kirby and Super Smash Bros fame) or Game Freak (creators of the main-series of Pokemon games) are to Nintendo.

And then Rare sold their souls and left the decaying corpse to Microsoft to join other companies while the people left at the new Rare made iffy new IPs and craptastic sequels like Perfect Dark Zero and Nuts & Bolts. And now they're focussing more on Kinect than anything else.

The demo to Bulletsorm plays like a dream! But... I'm a dedicated Mega man fan. I can't get enough! I'm simply dieing to play Mega man Legends 3! I can't stop playing the first two, and have been waiting patiently for about eleven years for the third. Also, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is fantastic, and I hear that they're planning on putting Phoenix Wright in.
  • #240

I LOVE GOLDEN SUN!
  • #241

@Congradulations XD Phoenix Wright

I'm not really into downloaded games as much as I'm into shooters like CoD, Halo, Fallout so I don't think megaman fits my style

As much as I love the entire series (except EXE and StarForce, which can both respectfully go die under a rock somewhere), I've gone from being super excited about MML3 to really on the fence about it. I'm just honestly not sure they're going to do the title any justice now that Inafune is gone.

I can't help but hold out hope that this'll be the most fantastic yet. I've been holding out for this more on the same principals as people who were waiting for Duke Nukem Forever. As of now, I'm supporting myself solely on my avid fanboyism for the Mega man series.

Anyone else super hyped for Mass Effect 3? Once I saw the trailer a few weeks back I can't stop thinking about it.

Ah Gran Turismo 5. You and your near-impossible gold times. Good times, good times...

Portal 2! I still need to pre-order it, but I've been excited since that was first announced.

I'm living away from my home country, so thanks to credit card geolocking, Valve won't let me pre-order Portal 2 via Steam. SADNESS. ;_;
