VIDEO GAMES I know you play them, don't lie to me!

ME3 came out. Concensus seems to be the game is good, the ending isn't.

...people beat it already?
  • #2502

I guess. It's the common comment I've seen.
  • #2503

If they speed-ran the game just to say they'd completed and could review it, I wouldn't be surprised if they missed or didn't have time to appreciate something and ended up not liking the ending. Games are like action movies. To much in a short space of time and it simply feels like one gunfight and series of explosions, one after the other, for not much reason other than it looks awesome.

On the other hand it would probablybe best to wait for more reviews to see what else people think about the gameplay, plot, and multiplayer. Hopefully ME3 doesn't turn out to be a victim of over-hype.
  • #2504

You mean like MW3?
  • #2505

I got New Vegas. Are the DLCs worth buying?

A couple definitely are. I vote them in this order:

1. Old World Blues
2. Honest Hearts
3. Lonesome Road
4. Dead Money
5. That gun thing I didn't even buy.

But honestly they are all fucking awesome.
  • #2507

From what I've heard the dlc's are pretty fun and the fallout 3 ones where great too. I was actually going to get them myself.

You could have just bought the ultimate edition which is out now which comes with all the dlc on a disk with the game.

I got the Fallout 3 and New Vegas games and all the DLC from Steam in the Fall sale and I still haven't played any of them :smirk:
  • #2509

So I tried playing ME3 and I couldn't go through with it knowing that I hadn't beatin' ME2 yet. It wasn't that me character (default male Shephard) was getting imported, but it was that my decisions weren't going to have any impact. Hell, I have yet to play and beat ME1, and I can already tell that that affects ME3 right from the start! (i.e. when choosing stuff about classes and background, something about Ashley and Kaiden comes up and I'm all "who the fuck is Kaiden?").

While I was at it, I downloaded all the ME2 DLC, and holy shit am I kicking myself for not playing these, these are bad ass.

God how could you go into a game series like mass effect without having played the other 2 before hand? That's like reading a book backwards.

ME2 dlc is so awesome seriously and i thought i was done after 6 playthroughs.
  • #2511

And you thought Skyrim's world was huge.

I got into Mass Effect three months ago. I'm still playing the first game over and over, knowing full well the second and third games are exponentially better. As soon as I get my xbox hooked to the internet, I'm buying all DLC for all three games.

Also, if you want some control over canon, read this.
  • #2513

I'm holding off getting ME3 until I've played through the first two again for my PC. Played original two on X-box but having recently moved to a new PC and with my X-box with my brother, I want to have my carried over saves. (either that or I'll wait until someone releases a guide for how to mod or command-prompt the game into thinking I have carried over saves.)

You gotta start somewhere :/
No, I started with ME2 and made it to the Suicide Mission before DLC started popping up. Stopped playing for some reason and started up again to finish it... but Miranda's being a cunt and won't be loyal, so I figure after I finish Project Overlord DLC (last one to finish for me) I'll just go for the Suicide Mission whether I can get my Paragon high enough or not.

I've spent about 14 hours on me3 so far and i can safely say that it is a good game.

One thing that kind of annoyed me was the fact that custom shepards faces don't import properly.

But seriously mass effect 3 is just a whole ton of fun.
  • #2518

I just read a article on that actually. There is a fix on the way for it.
  • #2519

Meh i just remade my shepard, but i could understand that a lot of fans would get pissed about it.
  • #2520

I am hoping I won't have that problem when I finally get it. I am waiting for it to come out on Steam.

ME3? That's not going to happen, EA wants you to use Origin.
  • #2522

Well that sucks.
  • #2523

A lot of fans have hideous Shepards. Who the fuck makes a bald Shepard? I've seen it. Your receding hairline does not make you look distinguished, it makes you look like a math teacher.

Oh my god, that is such an awesome idea. I now want to replay the ME games playing as Math Sheppard. I would do my best to never use a weapon, only my abilities. He would be hilariously nerdy.
  • #2525

For some reason, I never liked the custom face feature of the game. The ones people make online are a horrible match to Shepard's actual voice IMO, and it takes me out of the moment when I see gameplay clips with Shepards that don't sound like what they look. His default appearance is good enough for me.

It is good for this though:

The award for ugliest Shepard I ever saw comes to a rundown between a black Shepard who looked like he was in his fifties and had a blond handle-bars mustache + blond marine style buzz-cut, and a Fem-Shep who's face looked like she was missing her cheeks and had had a run in with a Freddy Kruger due to her Renegade points.

So after 2 years I finally hit the suicide mission. Had the Normandy fully upgraded, everyone was levelled as high as I could get them, all missions including DLC and Loyalty missions completed. Not all Armour and Weapons upgrades researched, but damn close. Only Miranda is not loyal, but I don't give a fuck about her. Tali was my romance option. Launched the mission.

@Chewy

To my knowledge almost everything is controllable, and everyone can survive granted you have their loyalties and all the upgrades for the normandy. The only fucker that will go and die because he can is Mordin. And even that doesn't happen too often. If I don't misremember you should send Tali through the vents, Garrus or Zaeed for the second squad, Samara for the Biotic and take some of the frail teammates (Like Miranda, Tali, Mordin or the assasin chick) to the final boss, so the guys that hold the line are the big strong crew.
  • #2538

You can never go wrong leaving Garrus as a squad leader or as the leader of second group. I heard that if you leave Moridin behind for the boss and take Grunt he will die. So try not to leave Moridin without Grunt, unless you take him with you that is.

I've heard a good way to stop Mordin dying is to have him escort the crew back to the Normandy after you save them. There was also some sort of bug with game that messed with one of the paragon options for keeping Miranda and/or Jack's loyalties after both of their missions during that fight they have.

To use the good paragon option you have to have it practically maxed out.

Also apparently fans are petitioning Bioware to change mass effect 3's ending.

Am I reading this page right? Are people really unaware that a game in a series known for multiple endings has *gasp* multiple endings?

You really have to see the ending to understand i don't want to go into detail about it because a lot of people still haven't finished it.

An ending is an ending, whether there are multiple ones its doesn't matter that's just how it ends. If some people can't handle it then they can go fuck themselves.

No, I have not beaten it, but really it's just fucking stupid for people to bitch about "how it didn't go how I wanted it". Sure I can understand if it were related to Shepard's personality and whether how you shaped him/her took a sudden 180 on the dev's whim, but really, a petition?

A quote from a mildly interesting article I read.

Quote

I suppose it’s a testament to how engaging Mass Effect has been, that it’s prompted such a heartfelt reaction from fans. Still, to demand a game be rewritten via a patch to suit your own opinion of what makes a better ending could definitely be seen as a little arrogant.

Read some stuff. I can understand people feeling like their decisions didn't have a big enough impact on the ending (if that is indeed the case, I wouldn't know), but the people who want a "less depressing" or "brighter" ending really need to pull their head out of their ass.
