I happen to be like Amaya in that I'm a pretty quiet person in real life, and even more so in group situations, but that's about as far as it goes. I don't obsess over her or anything. I think the number of times she appears in the main comic is appropriate for a minor character. And being a minor character, there's no need for Taeshi to play her up more than necessary. Sue would actually be the one who has more of a hand in things.
As for people who like Amaya... no problem, as long as you're not constantly talking about her in every post or pestering Taeshi to draw her more. If you want to see more Amaya, draw some fanart yourself, or commission some from fanartists. Besides, it's not uncommon for people to have a special fondness for a particular BCB character. Sure there's ZoeStellan×Amaya, but there's also Raxki×Paulo, Ace×Jasmine, esalaka×Daisy, Lvl 50 Fighter×Sue, Luigifan×Alejandro, and that one user who actually named himself MeXLucy.

You haven't taken into account the fact that most people who frequent internet forums aren't exactly the most socially proficient of individuals; the main appeal in mute, defenseless characters is that they don't seem to be able to stand up for themselves, and to a guy for whom the height of social interaction each day consists of slagging people off on YouTube, that is an attractive point- harbouring someone who seems to need taking care of is an ego boost like no other, as anyone who has been a rebound date will know, and internet paedophiles comic fans need all the self-assertion they can get. Man, that sentence was fucking long.

I'm fairly indifferent to Amaya. She doesn't really do anything, but she doesn't especially bother me either. Anyone who has any weird obsession with any fictional character has a problem in my opinion. I mean, someone who's obsessed with Mike is just as creepy as someone obsessed with Amaya. Although I can't see a clear reason why someone would have an obsession with her. I mean, it's not like she looks special or anything. She's a freaking cat.

I think Amaya's charm is similar to the McCain effect: we hardly ever see these characters, but what we do see of them is positive or funny.
Thus it is easier to assume that these characters are *always* nice/awesome/whatever.
Then we have the main characters, who we see at their best and their worst. Only the most hardcore fans will ignore a main character's faults and make them out to be perfect.
Oddly enough, this doesn't seem to help Sandy. We see very little of her, but this only seems to make people hate her more...

I don't hate Sandy, I tolerate her. And Amaya is one of those characters that you can completely remove from the comic and no one would notice. She's like some wrestlers in the WWE. You don't notice they're gone because they don't have such huge roles.

Like what Splee said, this would hold true if not for the fact that even when Amaya appears in the comic, it is within a neutral connotation. The only "nice/positive" action she had taken that I can remember is letting Paulo into the r-rated film with Jasmine.
