Amaya was always a minor character, however people constantly asking to see more of her just made Taeshi want to draw her less. Amaya's not important to the story at all.

If Taeshi dislikes using Amaya so much then why is she on so much promotional material? Not just store stuff either: the "no comments yet" image, the BCB chatroom icon on the topright corner, and the speechless smiley, just to name a few.
I find when artists talk about being frustrated with fan tendencies you should take what they say with a grain of salt.
In fact, anyone who openly says they are frustrated may follow up with statements they wouldn't normally make.

Amaya's pretty chill, she just has no bearing on the story. I enjoy when she appears, but I don't necessarily care if she doesn't.

She kinda likes Mike, but not that much.
She likes popcorn.
She works at the local movie theater selling popcorn.
She does talk, just hasn't done so on screen.
She is too nice. It takes her a lot to say no.
She plays the mandolin.
She will defend herself when threatened or freaked out.
She doesn't like to play dirty. Is very honest.
Just some random stuff about her. Some of them are pretty obvious, others are kinda obscure but still in plain sight if you know where to look.

That's kind of what I was trying to say: she doesn't do much, she doesn't say much, so she does affect much. There are fan characters that have left a bigger impact than her, so why would she be a big deal to anybody? She could be nice and all, but virtually everything anyone thinks about her personality is built on a foundation made of Jack and Shit.

Being able to "hold a conversation" is not something I see as inherent or even related to being a cat. I'd argue that most cats I'm familiar with talk about as much as Amaya does.

Now that I think on it, Amaya does appear noticably younger than the rest of the group. But she is in the same class, isn't she? Perhaps she is some kind of grade-skipping prodigy, and thus is in high school long before a relationship-ready age? If this is the case then the idea of romance wiwth her would be seriously creepy for an entirely different reason...

Amaya is only a month younger than Lucy. So not that much younger.
I haven't really heard a good explanation for how David managed to skip a year or something. According to his age, he should be a freshman. But apparently he is actually a good student? Although maybe not so much in English.
Tess' age has changed in the "About" page, but Stacy's hasn't yet, even though we've passed December 17 in the comic. Maybe just an oversight?

I obviously cannot vouch for Taeshi, but I'm starting to find the constant "correcting" of BCB to be very annoying (and arbitrary), especially when you guys second guess the creator of the comic.
I also find the fact that Zoe has his own self-insert fantasy with a anthromorphic character very creepy. The interactions with between you and Taeshi make it that much more uncomfortable (and hilarious) because of this.
