So.Late... But brain is being cruel and forcing me to draw Lucy. Sorry for not making art for so long. Been quite busy due to starting freshman year.

P.S. I really, really really hate that lighting experiment I did on the lines. Just. No. But anyways: PLEASE STAND FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.

Tiggy .

Aaawww wonderful!!
May I ask what tools do you use to draw? I read that you initially used the mouse, as I do, but in this picture you made it looks like the lines don't have a fixed width, which is something I don't know how to achieve. (I mean a single line of the contour changes width along its path, in a similar way to what you could achieve with a phisical brush by changing the tilt and pressure asdbafsv I don't know how to explain it better -me sad-)
  • #253

I use a mouse and a wonderful program called Paint SAI. Although the one I'm using is slightly modified. I'm sure you can get a version without too much trouble. The lines were sometimes LAYERED to look thicker, though thanks to Paint SAI's vector tools there's a specific tool that allows users to directly increase or decrease the weight of the lines. :)

Obsessed with blood, aren't you, tigs.

Hair should trump eyes, by the way.

not always. in fact, barely ever when drawing anime/manga iconography.

While I applaud anything Jazzy, you might want to calm down on the blood. After a while you'll start to crave it, and then it just never ends well.

And Theta, you can stylize like that with the eyes showing although the hair is there depending on the situation

Tiggy was before Rye, so technically Rye went through the Tiggy phase :P

You can do a lot of things but that doesn't mean you should.
  • #265

Theta, get out. That's a super common anime stylization. If you want to argue about it, go to the anime gods, not Tiggy.

Who, I may add, has improved quite a lot since I last posted! Your shading is smooth and lovely. And no more huge foreheads! Great job! :P

It's a silly stylisation. First of all eyes wouldn't generally even be hidden below hair, and secondly drawing them that way just seems very lazy. As if you wanted both to hide the face and to show it. Silly.

And it is indeed this young lady I need to point it out to for, as far as I know, she is not obliged to follow any style set by other people. And shouldn't be. If all one does is emulating someone else they'll never develop their own style, which is either just sad or both sad and detrimental to their artistic growth.

Telling me to simply get out for pointing out a matter that irks me is also somewhat rude. I sincerely hope you won't do it again for I meant no offense. And if you do, I'm expecting you to provide a reasonable argument for why exactly I am wrong.

The thing is that tiggy already has a style, and it includes the eyes like that. what you are doing is not encouraging here to break out into her own style, you are telling her to bend her style to fit your preferences. Calling someone's style "lazy" or "silly" is really kinda rude.

First off we're just gonna get this out of the way and say that opinions are things everyone should have. I'm not gonna fault you for it though some might and will.

Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but don't many people find their own style through emulation? No one truly has their own at the start and uses the works of others as a starting point. Eventually after branching off through all kinds of different styles one would make their own through something radically different or an amalgam of what they've learned before.

Anyways, I think you may be jumping the gun on saying Tiggy is stunting her own artistic growth. I mean you just commented on this page when? Like two days ago?

Granted, it is a bit rude. I'm not, however, obliging her to change her style, merely offering my rather strong opinion. (As you might parse from my post; it only needs to contradict itself if you want it to.) "Should" does not equal "shall".

Regardless, I was told to blame "anime gods" for this, and I still consider fair my point that it is not an external influence to whom I should point out things I see in Tiggy's art.

(Not to even mention people's art styles aren't nor should be fixed things that others aren't even allowed to comment on. I take it you've seen lt_amazil's style. That should say enough about the matter.)

Many people do find their style through emulation, yes, I was referring to the very same "anime god" argument here, actually, and hence speaking generally. (Which I tried to represent by using passive "one" instead of... well, some other structure. I'm sorry if that was unclear.)

I did not want to imply this, either. I wished to say that if all one does is emulation they'll only learn to emulate.
That said, I have followed this thread (lazily) ever since it was initially created. The join date or posts on this account do not necessarily equate to the first time I've been on these forums. It is very possible to view threads without logging in, for instance.

This I like, yes.
But maybe I should refrain from posting in this thread for a while so as to not anger the moderation with my offtopic.

It's not that off-topic, honestly. Debates aren't really looked down upon around here :P

HOWEVER I do think this argument is kind of a waste of time and really depends on tastes or what you find permissible in anime that ultimately fall on the artist's shoulders.

For example I personally dislike the heck out of when the eyes pop out of the hair, but I know that's a common anime style and Tiggy is an anime artist, so it's something that's easy to look past. But when it came to the forehead issue from WAYYYYY back, that's a genuine anatomy screw-up.

So!

If everyone could understand everyone everytime, it'd probably be a boring world.

Fair enough. Not like I have any room to talk on my argument when my comment yesterday was like the first one I've done here in I'm guessing a few months anyway. :P

And as Taeshi said on the debates not really looked down upon. You should dig around a bit through some of the older threads and see some of the ones people here got into. Some can get pretty damn harsh at points but you might be in for a good laugh or three depending on your sense of humor.

M'friend, it is not a gun-needle-thing. It is the Ubersaw. That is a flat blade with a needle in the middle.

The actual issue with it seems to be that the blade is a bit bent to the right
