That one place where people are

So this thread is that one place where people are. Because that's indeed where people are, you know, that one place. I'll keep the original post here for entertainment purposes.

Hey there, it's Nakama! It's been a while since i lasted visited these forums, and couldn't help but notice the comments I see all the time under the comic. Usually i enjoy seeing people's view points of this comic especially, but recently it's gotten really biased, and childish. Thus i want to start an unbiased discussion of Characters, the plot, or the comic all together. I just posted this comment below in the comments section, but i think the last part sums up my feelings nicely, and thought I'd have this as the first post.

In Mike's Defense: He has constantly been mistreated, and when someone opened his eyes and told him it was wrong, he felt that he had been abused. And in fact i see that he HAS been abused, he's been used over and over as Lucy's emotional, and physical toy. Mike has every right to be upset. However i do agree that that last bit about others joining him, I would say that's a little over the top Mikie.

In Lucy's Defence: She has had a poor childhood in terms of social understanding. She does have a sibling, and should therefor understand that at the least, kicking someone hard enough for them to limp, or punching them in the face hard enough to make their nose bleed is wrong. However, despite all that ,she's still been through a lot, and while I can say she definitely didn't DESERVE what's happening right now, she's had it coming for a while.

In Sandy's Defence: She lives in a different city and it's hard to have a long term relationship. I find it difficult to believe you would be fine if your girl/boy friend was being physically abused by another person, regardless of relationship, or gender, or whatever people might think Sandy is biasing of. Though she doesn't understand that Lucy is emotionally unstable, and has social issues, she thinks the same way anyone would provided the knowledge given.

To the Haters, no matter who you hatin': Don't hate on random characters, and don't judge on biases, that's where flaming starts, and that's just bad. Try to see it from every angle before you talk, or comment as some of these comments are terribly ignorant, and arrogant. Please stop making yourself look like an idiot, stop pointing fingers at fictional characters. Like Snape, you know we all hated Snape for a while, right?

So, If you would like to continue discussion with UNBIASED and PERSPECTIVE point of view arguments, leaving out HATE, feel free to post here!

Let's all just talk about Jasmine, the least controversial and most loved character of the cast.

Spoiler

Obviously Jasmine is awesome :O
  • #6

Yeah, Jasmine rules! I'm still waiting for that god damn keychain. I gave up on our postal service here a long time ago, but the thought of it coming in just taunts me. ;_;
  • #7

Least controversial: Flower Girl. I would say I adore her, but David would probably hunt me down.

I don't know what to think about the characters, all I do know is that Lucy, Mike and Sandy are in a really messed up situation
  • #11

@Kritanakom
He entered the unbiased, flame-free discussion and promptly started flaming, with bias.

He did the opposite of what Nakama asked people to do (and defeating the purpose of this thread):

Quote

Don't hate on random characters

  • #13

I knew full well this was the internet, my judgement was skewed.
Asking for unbiased opinions without hate, man I must be crazy!

Yeah, i never expected this to work out. Oh well.

@Kritanokom I'm not sure how you see what ace did, but not what Grass did, as they pretty much did the same thing.
  • #14

Oooh, haha :D

Its funny in a knocking-down-people's-sandcastles way :)

("JasGAY" just sounded like it was a reference or something that I wasn't getting. )
  • #15

@Kritanakom

I believe it's called trolling, and many people think they are doing it nowadays. :(
I miss the days when trolling was a true art, and not just in a 'mad bro?' sense.

Hmm I don't see what you mean nakama, Jasmine is unbiased and objectively the best. I don't really see how this is trolling
  • #17

Yes however you were biased when you said that Jasmine was- oh i c what you did there again!
Oh you!

I appreciate the effort.
  • #20

Is it possible to say that I like Jasmine most without having to add a page-long argument onto it?
  • #21

Who's Jasmine?
  • #22

In the Turtle's Defense: He could simply be in the wrong place at the wrong time. That vaguely malicious grin may not be out of actual ill-will towards those he trips. After all, he wouldn't be the only character in BCB who can only make one expression!

Alternately, he is fighting for more rights for the pet-races of BCB.

Of course it is, the point is that you were supposed to do it somewhere else :)
I can see of course that the internet simply did not want this to work the way I imagined. Allow me to elaborate...

The point of this thread was to not talk about your favorite character, or whom you hate, or whatever the like. The point is for a mature, unbiased discussion of BCB and it's elements. I however forgot one thing about the internet, that it is cruel to those who decide to try and be mature, and unbiased. Therefore my mistake. While I know very well that you may know all this already, I feel that I need to say it one more time, in case someone tl:dr'd my first post.

However, like i said, Oh well.
  • #26

The internet really loves extremes. It seems its always either a lawless land / hive of scum and villainy, or a police state. (Depending on regional laws.)
  • #27

Or a weird mix of everything. Enter 4chan
  • #28

I honestly see no point in this thread

Nakama, there is plenty of discussion of the current chapter in the "December" thread. Occasionally some of the posts even manage to be less biased than others.

I'm not sure you could ever have a discussion free of bias, as emotion and personal feelings do enter into the equation, especially with dramatic chapter such as this one.

Do you honestly believe you 'need' any thread in this entire forum? no. I honestly felt that maybe a bit less childish bantering would be nice, and i was foolishly wrong. So you're telling me that trying to make a shot at a nice, calm, unbiased discussion of something is pointless? Of course i know emotion and personal feelings do enter the equation, as it always does. Emotion and Personal feelings usually always drive the motivation behind writing anything, anywhere. What I meant, which i hope didn't go over your head was that I wanted a place for people to discuss things in a mature manner, instead of, "I HATE SANDY", "I HATE MIKE", "MIKE IS SUCH A DICK", "LOL LUCY IS A BITCH". You can probably see how that could get irritating, quickly. What my purpose behind this thread was for meaningful discussion to take place, rather than hopeless bantering that makes humanity look like a bunch of shallow moronic baboons who can't process anything more in depth than what they see. What I hate most of all are people who can't interpret, and I'm not talking about the "interpretive writing" or "interpretive dance" type of interpret. I'm talking about people who can't even decide to take the effort to understand what they're hating, or loving before talking about it like they know all.

So thank you for coming to my pointless, and ultimately unneeded thread.

I don't understand how you could have an unbiased opinion on the actions of the characters. Obviously avoiding just supporting a character because you like them should be avoided, but saying who is in the right is a biased statement at the very beginning. The concept of right and wrong can't be objectively determined because it is a personal opinion. Your opinion on the characters actions is biased by your own personal experiences so it is impossible to have an unbiased discussion on the actions of the characters.
  • #41

Oh you got me there! I guess i did go too far by using the word unbiased i guess?? I would say not-childish-squabble would have made for a better title, but I guess unbiased seem to roll off the tongue better at the time. However I realise this was pointless about 5 minutes after my post, so it doesn't really matter now does it? This has turned out to be quite the entertaining thread.
  • #42

How else are you suppose to talk about a drama comic without using childish squabbling? What exactly is there to discuss other then how much you dislike what a certain character did or how such and such character is a bitch?

P.S. Science has proven that the janitor is in fact the best character. I've got Pie charts to prove it.
  • #43

I think there's a difference between being unreasonable and being biased

Also you are blowing this out of proportion. No one is yelling or anything like that.
You may be thinking of the comments section.

Well good sir, I do say that perhaps that while childish squabble can be fun indeed, and I do agree that the Janitor is pretty awesome I still enjoy a mature meaningful conversation, and would prefer more of it, that's why i thought a thread like this might prove to be good. Another point I want to make is that just because you would rather yell at each other, it doesn't mean that I do.

While I do enjoy conveying the points I've made a few times back to the general audience, I think I'm done here. Expect to see some more fanart from me in the art section though.

O trust me Ace these pie charts are not like anything you have ever seen before. They will rock your metaphorical socks off. Just admit it Ace your belief in the power of Jasmine is childish myth. Only the janitor can be proven by science to be the best character.
