I'm looking forward to more of Abbey. Seems like a good transition, considering the beginning of the last chapter. Also, Spark; always jumping on the updates to start the threads I see ;). Good thing to, because otherwise I would have missed the update XD.

Looks like we'll finally get to see what happened with Abbey and his parents. I know Tae started a chapter but discontinued it..should be interesting :)

Loose ends - Chapter 69

Golly.
  • #6

This is going to be dangerously emotional. I really can't wait to read this chapter.

Oh snap.
  • #8

Clearly, Abraham is going to kill Abbey's mother.

And then he'll get all bosnian.

And then make out with Daisy.

That, or they'll break up. DO NOT WANT.
  • #9

I think we're going to see just how badly hurt Abraham hurts Charlotte, why he left, and the impact it had on Molly and Abbey (i.e. the adoption process, etc.) I wonder if Charlotte died in Abbey's arms or something along those lines. Damn.
  • #10

I don't like the sound of the title. Tying up "Loose Ends" is the kind of thing an author often does near the very end of the story!

I don't want BCB to end; I just discovered it a few months ago! :'(

And now we revisit Abbey's tale. This will be another depressing chapter, which I think will be hard on Taeshi. She really does have to be in the mood to draw such stories, and I don't blame her for being late in starting this particular chapter. She began that other chapter (which Anialator linked to) which was supposed to take place after "Moving On", but stopped after three pages because her heart wasn't in it.

This flashback takes place at least four years ago in comic time, maybe closer to five years by now. It might be what happened after dinner in that unfinished Abbey chapter. Sounds like it might be a setup for a later, worse incident which happened near Christmastime, which would be good reason for Abbey to get angsty around that time of year, remembering what had happened a few years earlier.

It remains to be seen whether Charlotte is dead or not. It could be that she was badly beaten and spent a long time in the hospital. Afterwards, she might have felt she couldn't be a good mother to her children while still dealing with trauma from the abuse she suffered, so she let her kids remain in foster care where she knew they'd be well looked after. In any case, Kevin and Janet don't seem to have told Abbey and Molly what became of their mother. So there's that loose end to tie up...
  • #12

I'm a bit concerned for Taeshi, since she stated that she was self-mutilating just now on the commentary of the new page. I hope she was just kidding...

Anyway, only now are we finally exploring Abbey's rather brutal past? Wasn't that what the "Unfinished Abbey Chapter" was going to do, and how long ago was that when it was left unfinished? I've actually been wanting that chapter to be resolved for a long time now, as it was extremely interesting, but why suddenly start talking about now? Are we at that point when we can start exploring those more brutal elements? Speaking of which, that's a lovely transition. From Mike tearing Lucy's heart into pieces to Abbey's mother being slowly destroyed by her own husband. It's not like that's a bad thing, as it is entertaining, but it's not like Pillow Talk, where things are dark, but at the same time, pretty upbeat and cheery. When Jessica is telling the story, everyone is there and can understand her. Comparing that to December, Lucy had no one besides Augustus who was there and could understand her turmoil, and he left the chapter pretty early on. Where Jessica had Rachel at the end, Lucy had no one. Honestly, the dark quality of the comic is probably coupled with the new art style. Ever since On Our Own, it's been kinda down...When I need comedy, I think I'll read Carry Me, or Feline Filibuster. Those bring smiles to my face every time, and they look great, too. :D

Bottom line, this chapter looks interesting. On this page, Abbey's mom looks pretty bad, I'm sad to say. Her head is way too small in panel 2, her hair is messy and crappy all throughout, and in the second to last panel her mouth is weird, she has no eyes, and her finger isn't in the exact position for her to be "shushing" Abbey. But Abbey and Molly look adorable. :D
  • #13

Someone's gonna get shanked before the end of this chapter.
  • #14

Taeshi has made more evil jokes than that on the comments before. I wouldn't worry about her actually self-mutilating.

Even if that would explain the page taking so long to update. Y'know, with Suitcase finding Tae bleeding in the bathroom attempting suicide then running with her to the nearest hospital to patch her up again and stuff...

But I'm sure that's not the case.

But, Ooooh Boy, Abbey chapter. Time for some REAL DRAMA. In COMICS. Not REAL LIFE.

...Or not.

It may have been one of the incentive comics, but I'm sure I read somewhere Abbey saying that Charlotte was alive, but missing. I dunno, maybe I read it in fanfiction, but I know I read it somewhere.
  • #17

I am outraged at the lack of snow on this first page! We need more bait for the fans to rage about on the page comments! :P
  • #18

Unlike the last chapter where people were taking sides (looks around) I think it's safe to assume that we will all hate abbey's dad. Right?
  • #19

Oh man, I can't wait for Jerk to get in on this one
  • #20

He would hate abbey and his dad possibly, but I have been wrong before
  • #21

Abbey's Dad x Abbey's Mom OTP

What could possibly go wrong? :D

I gotta draw you so many Abbey getting maimed pictures

Message received loud and clear, buddy. :)
  • #25

So... Daisy's time of the month then? The cops will never suspect the cute one. Clever girl.
  • #26

I just hope it won't be whole flashback chapter... Two months with Abbey, Molly, their mom and their dad... I dislike Abbey. Like, really.
  • #27

Hahaha oh shit, how did I not see the possibility of that? I personally don't like that the chapter will center around Abbey, but I suppose he does need some screen time. Paulo got a few chapters in the spotlight, Lucy's always shown, Mike just got a chapter and will likely be a central part of the upcoming chapters. Sandy's visit and the play come to mind.

Oh crap I forgot Daisy. Typical, eh? :P

But 32 pages...?
Like I said, it will last for more than two months... For people who do not like Abbey it will be horrible. It's a lot, lot, lot of time for a sidecharacter. And I don't think it will change my mind and I will suddenly start to symphatize with him. Also, I don't like stories about abusive people, for personal reasons.
But that's just my honest opinion. Like I said earlier, I will cope and wait.
  • #30

Well right now it's just a flashback. It might be mostly Abbbey centered but it might also b AbbeyxDaisy centered as well. Who knows? Maybe it'll included other characters as well.
  • #31

I hope so!

I think this is going to be a very interesting chapter. I was intruigued about Abbey's past and was sad to see that there was an unfinished chapter about it. It's nice to see that you waited to delve back into his past for a second time, because not only will we know more about his past; it will be viewed in a much nicer quality than the previous attempt. Keep the drama comin' Taeshi. :D

First things first, Abbey is not a sidecharacter, he is a full fledged main character.

I just don't get why people have to go around and start hating characters(fictional ones I might add) for such nebulous reasons. When I view fictional stories that interests me, I don't just all go around and side with one character or start hating on one, The reason I view stories are because I am genuinely interested in the story and what it has to teach. To me it doesn't matter what the characters motives or beliefs are, or if in the story has a happy or sad ending, because there really is no such thing, it's really only a good or a bad ending, meaning that the ending was well done or it was fucking crap. I view stories for the sake of the story as a whole and not the individual characters of it. What I'm trying to say is that I think it's retarded to go around and start hating certain characters for any reason really, but that's just me. I just hate having to look at people stupidly spouting hatred about characters, it really annoys me.

I don't know who you are as a person or how you view stories, eniena and I'm sure you're probably a good person. I'd just like to say that the above post wasn't just directed at you, it is a message for everyone to think about.

Also eniena, I bet you just think Abbey is boring and that you don't like super rage hate on him, but if a story about him makes for a good story than that's all you should care about. :smirk:

tl;dr Don't hate the player, hate the game.
  • #33

This is like an entire Christmas present to me. I know it's not, I know this was planned so far in advance, but the rapture I'm going to feel just observing the impending train wreck will eclipse everything I found hilarious about the last arc combined, bordering on sexual gratification.
  • #34

I do like Abbey. He seems to be the only person with a legitimate cause to be unhappy.
BUT
He isn't. Go figure.
  • #35

I suppose for me it is just a matter of who I prefer more. I don't dislike any of the characters anymore, but personally I'd much rather see one of the others develop. I will still look forward to updates, of course.

Abbey hasn't had nearly as much exposure, which means that with this chapter he may very well end up being more appreciated. At this point in time though, I am most interested in Mike, Paulo, and Daisy. Lucy can bugger off, we've seen more than enough of her lately.

Doesn't Taeshi's second answer actually answer the third question?
If she was dead then why would Abby hope that she would contact them again?
Unless she is dead and Abby and Molly just haven't been told yet.

What are you talking about? People who don't like Abbey are in for a happy ride of hilarity and fun. See how much Jerk is enjoying it.

Also, this is an important chapter. If you don't like it for the topics it touches, that's your fault, honestly. It's just a cat comic, no need to take the topics and references so personally.

BCB would be incomplete with this chapter, it would be just drama and no comedy. ;)

Yes, that's what I'm thinking: that Abbey hasn't been told what happened to his mother. In which case he can hope to hear from her again, but we don't know if in fact Charlotte is still alive.

And yes, this is an important chapter for the development of Abbey's character. Taeshi's mentioned before that Abbey still needed to be covered a bit more, and so I expect we'll see that in this chapter.

(For the record, I'm a partial Abbey, though I don't share Abbey's history.)

That's why I said that it is MY opinion. I don't remember saying I don't like this chapter or "this chapter gonna be a crap". I'm just not fond of Abbey's character and I hope he won't be the only person appearing in this story. I can't understand why are you so concerned about the fact I could get bored with this chapter anyway? I thought people have right to like or dislike something. I'm interested in comic's story overall, but 32 pages of Abbey's abusive father story just doesn't sound fun for me. Also, "personal reasons" doesn't mean that I'm taking references (I admit I could rephrase it differently, english is not my native language). You can dislike romantic comedies, I dislike dramas about domestic violence. Please relax since I'm not estimating value of this chapter, I just wanted to say I don't like Abbey enough to enjoy two months of him being the main subject of comic... :)

You are free to like or dislike any aspect of the story as you please. :P

I don't think the entire chapter will be a flashback. That would just be backstory, not actually developing Abbey's character. And he does need to progress (or regress, as the case may be).

And if there's anyone Abbey would tell the story to, it would be Daisy, so there's a good chance you'll see her too.
  • #45

Yeah, Daisy looked worried in the beginning of 68, so maybe he's telling her here after she asked.

How M.Night Shyamalan twist worthy would it be if Abraham suddenly appeared out of nowhere?

"Hello, So-" *Abbey-Pawnch*
  • #46

I would only say "What a tweeest!" if it turned out Abbey somehow WAS Abraham all along! :O
  • #47

(The comic would just get more and more Freudian from then on.)
  • #48

Abbey's eyes look funny in this page and at first glance, look blue! He loves his foster mom a lot, but I guess he's uncomfortable with Molly acting like this because she's treating the Foster mom better? I don't know
  • #49

Oh god that face just screams "Mum's dead and i cant bring myself to tell you"

Sending gift baskets to biological mother because she can't see her in person much? :D
