Chapter 69: At Loose Ends
Well, that was unexpected: Mike only has one night with Sandy! I really thought it'd be like a week or something. Figures that Sandy's parents would only allow her to fly on business. One night doesn't seem anywhere near long enough to test Mike and Sandy's relationship in any significant way, unless something completely unforeseen happens. So maybe nothing will change there. Maybe Mike will float on a cloud all through the holidays.
Typo alert, second-to-last panel: 'believe'. As Mina would say, "Betta get that fixed!"

I really wish Daisy would get over Mike though.. I feel bad for Abbey, he knew before that she liked Mike so he must be able to see how excited Daisy is getting and how sad she is knowing Sandy is coming.
Pretty page though! :D

I also feel bad for Abbey, seeing as he's in a relationship where he's the second-best choice and his girlfriend still has the hots for Mike. And he knows it. Man, Abbey deserves a better relationship than that. Still, Daisy was the girl he was trying for, so I guess I can't blame him for wanting to stay with her. I foresee they'll eventally break up, though.

All this got me thinking again about the possibilities of BCB and how things might play out from here. I might have to write up my current wild speculations and post them in the proper thread sometime. Damn you Taeshi for drawing such an engaging story!

So think Mike will even get to talk to Sandy after the show? Or do you think she'll be to busy to? He only mentioned having a ticket and not, say, taking her out to dinner before/afterwards or anything, so I'm wondering just how much time she actually has for him. And he's so wrapped up in the fantasy of getting to see her in person after so long, that he might not even notice it's more or less going to be a one sided affair (assuming this theory is right, of course).
And just what's making Abbey smile so much in panel 3, anyway? Just seeing Mike and Sue doesn't seem like cause enough to go from indifference to joy, especially for Abbey...

I'm surprised at Mike. It's just one night, and Sandy has to do it for business. Good luck actually managing to being able to spend time with her after the modeling show. His naivety is rather...herm. Just sayin'.
Alright, there's an intriguing plot development, there. Daisy actually misses Sandy and wishes she would be able to see her. I never got the distinct impression that they were that close, even before Mike kind of started hogging all of her attention. Interesting; I really hope that takes us somewhere.

If Daisy hasn't kept in touch with Sandy why would she have any reason to have told her?

But from Mike's point of view, Amaya is just to the right of Sue in those panels, and... oh, never mind. It doesn't matter that much.
NintendoSegaSonyGuy said:
Yeah, I was thinking that Mike might not be allowed to see Sandy after the fashion show due to show security, or her parents hovering around her, or something to that effect. So much for spending time with Sandy; Mike might well get cheated of hope again. Of course Sandy feels the need to hide the relationship from her parents, because they'd disapprove of it, but on the other hand she does need to spend time with Mike when possible, or the relationship just becomes a farce. And if Sandy isn't able to personally see Mike, then where does that leave him? Would he still keep grasping onto that slender thread of hope, or would he start to reconsider the whole long-distance relationship thing?

Daisy is referring to the fact that the person she considered her best friend in third grade (Sandy) failed to tell her she was moving to Rickter. As a person, Sandy can be pretty flaky sometimes, and because of her past actions (dropping Daisy for Mike, and not telling her she was moving), Daisy even now still feels hurt and ignored and forgotten. As a matter of fact, Sandy doesn't even really remember Daisy anymore.

Considering the lack of physical violence, I don't think Lucy told him about what happened last chapter.

I see that Lucy is not there at the party. For shame. At least David dancing with Mike makes for it (God, that's hilarious...).
Even when Daisy is cuddling up with Abbey, he still can't focus on anything but his crappy past. I get that that's what the chapter is about, primarily, but still...in my experience, I'm pretty damn focused if a girl starts dancing with me.

I have to say, Taeshi, that you draw vehicle interiors quite well. That view in the sixth panel, for example, is fantastic. Good on you for expanding your drawing perspectives!
Looks like we're flashing back to when Abbey and Molly were first taken in by their foster parents five years ago. Janet's statement in the last panel is reminiscent of panels 15-16 of this page in "Rising Temperature". So clearly Charlotte must've spent some time in the hospital. Following that though, I don't know why Child Protective Services didn't keep Kevin and Janet up to date on Charlotte's status.

As for why Child Protective Services didn't keep Kevin and Janet in the loop, that's actually standard if the kids have been put up for adoption. But since I don't think Kevin and Janet have formally adopted them, the only reason I can think of is the mom doesn't want them informed.

Also, as interesting as Abbey's backstory is, I kinda wish he could keep his head on the present. Also, Molly does look kind of the same in the past as in the present.
I think.

That's Rachel dancing with David (in the link), not Jasmine.
Anyway, about the new page...Molly is going to have one miserable life if she can't handle seeing one little BOP to the face. I understand how traumatic it was seeing her father do that to her mother, but let's put it into perspective. Molly is a little who goes to Elementary School, correct? Think about how many immature kids get into fights at that age. Bullies, and what not (we know that there'll be bullies, because this is Bittersweet Candy Bowl). Either Molly will burst into tears every time or she'll try to break up the fight (actually, that might lead to some interesting moments). Hell, the day Abbey and Mike were fighting, she ended up breaking up the fight.

Oh boy, is Molly suffering from trauma or what. Poor girl.
I had a little trouble following the dialogue in the last panel. At first I thought Kevin was speaking to Janet in the first word balloon. Apparently it's actually Janet talking to herself?
Janet's eyes keep reminding me of Johnny Hurricane's eyes in that one pic of him. Especially in panel 6.

Molly is five years old in this flashback, and she's now ten ("Rising Temperature" occurred just after her 10th birthday). I think Molly's become a more confident girl while in Kevin and Janet's care, and more willing to stand up for herself and Abbey, but she's still traumatized by the things Abraham did to Charlotte when she was younger. Maybe she'd benefit from therapy at some point, like her brother did. (I don't know if Abbey is still attending those therapy sessions?)
