Chapter 69: At Loose Ends

Now someone needs to draw them as a heroine and sidekick team.
- 11 February 2012 - 02:40 AM
I suppose Abbey is right to worry about Molly making presents for their absent mother three times a year every year. There's a rather fine line between faith and delusion. At least Abbey wants to find answers now.
Tess is good and drunk, but maybe she'll be able to take Abbey's mind off things? Actually, weren't Abbey and Daisy already dancing?
- 13 February 2012 - 06:46 PM
- 14 February 2012 - 12:02 AM
And I love how Amaya is in shock from dancing with David.
Drunk Tess is just so freakin awsome.

Poor Amaya...she looks like she's about to be knocked flat by David. God, he's tall.
I love how Sue immediately jumps to conclusions and thinks Mike is the reason Lucy isn't there. Mike has a history of being shitty to Lucy, in the eyes of his friends, so let's just get on that now.
Mike is such a friggin' liar...we need some L.A. Noire interrogation music.
Ooh, Paulo looks pissed. I think this is about to get really good.
- 15 February 2012 - 01:20 PM
Meanwhile at Lucy's house
"WHY MIKE? WHYYYY!?" *slice slice slice*

"WHY MIKE? WHYYYY!?" *slice slice slice*

Sue and Paulo at least have a basis for jumping to conclusions. They've undoubtedly noticed that Lucy hasn't been sitting at the lunch table as much lately, and they're both aware there's been drama between Lucy and Mike before.
Paulo is definitely getting suspicious of Mike having done something to upset Lucy, and he may feel like doing something about it. Though naturally this would take his attention away from Jasmine, who may start to wonder if she's really Paulo's focus.
Tess... has a problem. And David has apparently made it his mission to dance with everyone, whether they want to or not.

Daisy mentioned back in "New Beginnings" that Abbey doesn't remember all of his past. Does he have some repressed memories which have yet to come out? Or was he just not able to remember everything all at once when he told the story to Daisy?

Psychodynamic supporter, eh? Good old Freudian psychotherapy.
- 16 February 2012 - 04:06 PM
The focus has been on Abbey for too long for it to be any other end.
- 16 February 2012 - 09:39 PM
And Paulo... oh boy he won't be so happy with Mike.
- 16 February 2012 - 11:24 PM
I don't think Abbey will be very much involved with the Mike/Lucy situation at the party. He has his own things to worry about.
- 16 February 2012 - 11:38 PM
Freud was a quack. The vast majority of his theories have been disproved entirely. Modern psychotherapy owes much more to Carl Jung than that sex obsessed idiot.
Psychodynamics is a valid field, but it owes nothing to Freud. Any proof you need that it's alive and well is the use of Suspect Profiles by the FBI.

And then we find out that his mother is all alive and fine and wants to meet him and bought him a pet human and wants him and Molly to live with her for ever and ever with the billion dollars she inherited or some shit.
And I'll be all WHY YOU GOTS TO BE LIKE THAT, TAESHIZZLE?
- 17 February 2012 - 05:49 AM
Also Paulo's assasino look is scary :3
- 17 February 2012 - 04:01 PM
- 17 February 2012 - 04:41 PM
I wonder who Amaya vomited on. Maybe Sue?

There's also the possibility that Charlotte may have a permanent disability (it was heavily implied that the beating was bad, what with her being hospitalized) and may be anxious about showing it to her kids. I've met plenty of people who are that self conscious about their physical impairments, not to mention she may think that simply not being in their lives would be less traumatic than showing them she is physically handicapped.
A third possibility, a sort of spinoff of the handicap idea, is that Charlotte is in a halfway house or assisted living facility, which itself would be pretty bad news, as it implies she's unable to live on her own. I have my doubts that it will go this way though, because I view it to be too dark. But Taeshi has definately surprised me before.

Of course, she could also be in a coma.
- 18 February 2012 - 03:05 AM
Just try to put yourself in her shoes. Try and imagine how horrible life must have been for her. Now imagine watching Abbey and Molly suffer, with Abbey rushing (like most boys in these situations do) to protect her but being unable to, and Molly freaking out at the slightest implication of violence. You really would think you failed as a parent. It is not unlikely for you to think your kids are better off without you.

I just hope she's alive, at the very least. Disability or mental trauma are obviously better than death.
- 18 February 2012 - 03:22 AM
I totally agree. If she's dead, he's not left with the false hope that the salivating, self-soiling shell of what used to be his mother could reanimate into an actual person one day.

And Taeshi prolongs the suspense. Daisy is understandably concerned about Abbey, but of course Abbey should hear the story first in private. It's hard to get a read on what Janet might have found out about Charlotte, but judging from the first two panels, it might not be good news.
Jasmine is displeased at drunk Tess cuddling Paulo. Wonder if we will get a wrap-up of Tess and her possible lingering feelings for Paulo before she departs for good at the end of the school year.
Daisy seems inexplicably larger in the 8th panel than the 7th, while Janet remains the same size in both.

And I love Paulo's expressions. He's just staring at Mike with what appears to be murderous intent.
- 21 February 2012 - 01:42 AM
If you mean the last panel of the current page, Paulo actually appears to be looking at Abbey while trying to fend off drunk Tess. He's distracted from Mike for the moment; Mike himself is looking at Abbey also.

Judging from the first two panels, Janet seems to be as tall as Abbey, or even a little taller. So it'd make sense for shorter Daisy to be closer to the viewer in panels 4, 7 and 8. I just was surprised Daisy got even closer to the viewer in panel 8 while she was talking to Janet, although it could be interpreted as her having initially moved towards Abbey and then turned back.

Whoops, Abbey let something slip there that he probably didn't intend. Perhaps he feels a measure of guilt for that, in that if he hadn't mentioned Cynthia, he might still have his mother around. Those affected by abuse are often full of unwarranted and self-inflicted guilt, e.g. Charlotte constantly apologizing and thinking that she should've done things better, not angered Abraham, etc.
Surprising how Abbey knows the name of his father's mistress though. I'm guessing he overheard Abraham greeting Cynthia.
Does Charlotte have a black eye courtesy of a recent encounter with Abraham's fist? And yet she still smiles at past good memories of time spent with him. Makes me feel sorry for her.
- 22 February 2012 - 05:48 PM
Ballsy move there Charlotte, ballsy indeed.
In fact, too ballsy, lets knock you down a notch.
