Chapter 69: At Loose Ends

As much as it is nice to finally know the status of Abbey and Molly's mother, I do wonder how she died. Was it a resault of the surgery, did she commit suicide now that her kids were taken care of and she had nothing left in the world, or did she loose the will to live and passed away because of that?

"...it's not going to be an easy operation..."

I think it's implied that she died during the operation, or soon after.
