Take as long as you want to update. You could take a year and I wouldn't care.

I guess we can only give her support and hope she realizes we're serious and it somehow goes through the wall of self-loathing.
Feel better Taeshi, your fans really care about you and many wouldn't mind (and some would probably encourage) if you took a break.

But in an all serious note, Taeshi, your an amazing person. You've created this wonderful and amazing comic that was just born out of your childhood sketches. When it grew, so did your loyal and loving fan base and followers. You and Souppy are a really great couple. You two help each other and compliment each other. You guys are extremely funny and have amassed a loving and caring following. Keep up the good work!

Taeshi, you work hard and we love your work. Personalky it breaks my haert to see you constantly berate yourself, and I'm trying to accept you've been a puddle of angst for ao much time, but it hurts. Still, although it falls on deaf ears, I have nothing but repect and admiration for you. I hope you and Suitcase have a long and happy life together and that someday you'll see just how incredible you are.
A successful artist in any endeavor should be aware of their flaws, but not so much that they forget entirely about all of the overwhelmingly good stuff. You don't get uch a huge fanbase for a reason.
And hey, if you ever show confidence, please realize we'll be super psyched! There's abslutely nothing sinful in self-confidence, in fact people like me desperately read Taeshidiary hoping for the occasional happy one.
As for the comic, I think a small break would be good for you. We're not going anywhere just because you're not updating. If you really want something, why not some of your favorite fancomics? Or do a round 2.

I'm sure people would be willing to make guest comics for Taeshi if she could take a break that way, and since we just finished a huge angsty story arc, people wouldn't mind having an intermission before another huge angsty chapter.

I'd have an obligation to myself to finish it if I did something like that.
The Web-comic "Dead Winter" just started a guest artist bonanza, so yeah. Check it out.

You're at the beginning of the chapter - a guest comic week would still be legit at this point, so I advise doing that. Feel better!

If you have a lack of self-esteem regarding your body, then could I suggest starting a regular exercise program? It'll give you more energy and make you feel like you're actually doing something to combat at least one of your problems. Maybe join forces with SuitCase, I think you said awhile ago that he's lost weight? Join him for daily walks around the neighbourhood or something! And don't be afraid to lean on him for support. Or on us, for that matter. We all care about you! And no, you're not annoying us at all, or being a burden to us. Far from it. We all care about you and we're concerned about you!
Admittedly I personally don't understand why some people feel compelled to self-harm. Even when I was at my most depressed and hating myself for not being able to get things done, I never once considered hurting myself. If you feel like you have to mark yourself, might I suggest wrapping your legs with gauze and using red marker instead? I just don't want you hurting yourself, you're worth way more than that.
Your mental health is the most important thing here. If you ever feel like you have to take a break from things, then please do so, even if it's in the middle of a chapter. We all want you to be a happy, healthy, confident Taeshi. And yes, that is actually something you can attain. Ganbatte!

I know this means nothing coming from me, but I have very recently (past 4 years) had my own struggles with stress and depression. I'm linking a song that helped me through those times, and I hope it will do the same to you.

It's not like she doesn't know my opinion by now anyway. But even if I've tried to avoid commenting on it directly so far, I'm glad ILB stickied this. I don't know if it'll accomplish anything but I do think she needs to see her fans and friends showing some kind of solidarity for her.
Maybe it's the only proper way to treat the one person who brought us all together with all the gravitas and support she deserves.

I know how being depressed feels and I've been struggling for the past 5 ish years. Like the people said above me, your health is the most important thing here and the whiny fans demanding an update from you like your a machine can damn well wait.

BCB exactly hasn't been happy-go-lucky for a very long time now (which is a good thing). i dunno what it was that suddenly got this point across to you, its about relationships and drama and growing up and angst. none of these things are particularly filled with joy. just because david hasn't made a uterus joke for 5 minutes doesn't mean that taes mental state is deteriorating.

You raise a good point. Lots of comedic people can be very unhappy on the inside (although just because she isn't being comedic doesn't mean she is happy). I guess it's the brain's self-defense mechanism against depression, an influx of sadness will cause them to act jovially.
There is a possible exception, that the person is sad and isn't even trying to get better, but I hardly think that's the case.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, you can't just accept her as 'broken' and then force her (through peer pressure) to do something she normally wouldn't do. Personally, I'm all for taking breaks, but it has seemed like a one-sided argument so far and, well, even Serial killers get a defence attorney. If I'm wrong and you all kick my arse, then that's completely fair.

Yes, asking an artist if they will update could be considered nagging, annoying, discouraging, and very irritating. But it depends on the context: if I was to ask about updates from, say, you. That would be all of those things because you would have clearly given a date or a notice of a late update, or when you would plan on coming back to a certain project. Even if you didn't, we could still be assured that there is no point in asking as you would if you could/ wanted to. On the other hand, someone like FatCat, who only posts in the creative arts forum, and a few times, and who has the comic as a small aside project, might have gotten busy and later lost interest in the comic. A few simple greetings could remind and/ or encourage her to come back to the comic.
That's my opinion, and I stick to it. How the artist perceives the request is up to them, but they should know that only the decent members intend the question to be a greeting rather than a demand.
