Running out of Black People

The death of Whitney Houston recently has been on my mind these past two days. The thing is over the last couple of years a few really cool black people have left the world, now I know that may not mean much to a lot of people, but I thought it might be an interesting topic to discuss or whatever. We are indeed running out of cool black people. Over the past few years some notable ones have included; Bernie Mac, Issac Hayes,-Both 2010 I believe. William Horace Marshall-2003-He was Blacula, and of course The King of Pop. Those are just to name a few.

Your thoughts and opinions on who can replace them and your favorite things involving them, and of course what you think on this ongoing problem of us running out of truly awesome and inspiring black people.

YOU FUCKING FORGOT TUPAC AND BIGGIE HOW DARE YOU

To be fair, you lost the King of Pop in that fire that turned him into a white woman.

At least you still have Soulja Boy Tell 'Em.

At least we still got Tiger and Oprah.

I dunno, Tiger is kind of a douche. I'd replace Tiger with you.

Bill Cosby's still alive too.

Look, you lost Whitney Houston the moment she took her first sniff and poke.

You still have Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Tyler the Creator, Jay Z, Beyonce, the All State guy, Chris Rock and half of Barack Obama. You still have Chuck fucking Berry. Really.

White people? We gots the Kardashians, the Hiltons, Demi Moore and the entire Ku Klux Republican Party. You could be doing worse.

You have a good argument.

I think the real problem is that assholes and attention whores keep a higher profile than the people who work in the background to offset all the damage they do. Think about it: our generation has LeBron James but Michael Jordan isn't out of the picture. Hell, did you see his response video to King James's "What Should I Do?" If his talent on the court was enough reason to revere him as a God, what does being a class act off the court make him?

Hey! Hey! Lots of people are dying! I don’t just mean that in the normal “lots of people are dying” way. This is different because all the people we have heard of are disappearing! There was Kim Jong-il, Gaddafi, Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah, Al Davis, Steve Jobs, Randy Savage, Patrice Oneal, Whitney Houston, Enrique Moreno, Saddam Hussein, Bil Keane, Heavy D, Andy Rooney, Charles Napier, Arch West, Frances Bay, Andy Whitfield, Cliff Robertson, Bubba Smith, Amy Winehouse, Betty Ford, Ryan Dunn, Larry Fischer, Robert Stempel, Osama bin Laden, Elisabeth Sladen, Elizabeth Taylor, Nate Dogg, Mike Starr, Peter Yates, and more. It’s an epidemic! Soon they will all be dead.

Being a class act off of the court gets him points with one guy on a forum he has never been to and not much else.
Like, “Who needs to schmoose? I can dunk.”

I understand that a lot of people are dying but the point is that we are running out of black people who deserve the spotlight. They are just dropping like flies in a way.

On the Micheal Jordan note, he deserves to tell people who are not as good as him that they need to try more, he was the greatest player to ever play the game. He can be an asshole to people who continue to try and compare themselves to him.

Also he openly admitted that Kobe is his only competition to his fame.

Kobe had the same coach Jordan had for all the rings he won in the '00s. But Jordan is still just such a class act, I don't think we'll have anyone really to compare him with for a long while. If you saw all the shit LeBron James did last year after he lost the championship, you'd see what I mean. I don't know much about Kobe except that he's got a lot of rings and that he might be getting a little old by now. He could be as classy as Jordan for all I know, but it's still pretty easy to tell he's a better human being than James. Not that that's really all that difficult, though.

Not to mention Samuel L. Jackson, Eddie Murphey, Kyra Pratt, Amber C. Reily, Idris Elba, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Leslie David Baker, Wayne Brady, etc...

I know this thread has run it's course, but not a single person mentioned Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, George Clinton, Victor Wooten, or Stanley Clark.

Just sayin'.

You make a good point and those are all fantastic black people. I was waiting for more people to talk about more black people and bring up more, so I can hear who you all think are awesome and shit.

Also, I forgot Sonny Rollins, who amazingly enough, isn't dead.
  • #17

Don't forget the Old Spice Guy.

Also, I should've thrown James Earl Jones in there. I hope the Chocolate Rain kid starts smoking enough cigarettes to sound like that one day.
