And yeah, the mob scene was my favorite. Korra just don't understand how much better she has it since she's a bender.

AND FUCK YOU, JOHNNY. KORRA'S POLAR BEAR DOG IS THE FIRST ONE TO BE DOMESTICATED EVER. PLUS IT'S WAY CUTER THAN ANY AIR BISON.

I think that it's more like the benders started to exploit their powers for evil purposes, like the Triple Threat Triad in the first episode. They used their bending abilities to bully and assault the non-bending shopkeeper.

The Last Airbender does get better. I do agree that the first few episodes of it can be boring, though. Unfortunately, things don't really start picking up until the second season after Aang starts learning Earthbending. This is mostly due to poor planning as the creators didn't expect the show to be as popular as it was.

When it comes to The Last Airbender I dont think it starts to get really good until the ending of Book One, when they make it to the northern water tribe.

EDIT: Its hard to say cause within all the boring episodes there are some with major plot points that you wont really understand later on unless you saw them.

I loved it. This new series is so much darker and more complex than in "The Last Airbender". So many motherfucking shades of grey at work here. It's wonderful.

I'm completely stoked for the next episode. And more instancesof Makorra, I think it's kinda cute.

Good series. An opposite in many ways to its predecessor, to be sure.

So far I am absolutely adoring this series, it's complex, edgey, drama packed but knows when to be light-hearted. The music is awesome and the animation seems much more fluid and sharper than the original series.

Granted, benders versus nonbenders is a drastic difference, but instead of assimilating them in an almost big brother fashion, both sides could just attempt to understand each other more... I think I'm just being a bit too idealistic.
@Shada: Actually, I predicted that because I figured there would be no other explanation... So that was the only option. What I still can't figure out is how. I mean, Amon says how he can do that to benders, but I'm almost 100% sure that not all of his story is truthful.

Also, saw this.

Smash, you're right. Amon might be only temporarily blocking the chi that allows bending to happen and that the trauma from not being able to bend is putting a mental block on their ability to bend.

I'm pretty curious to see how two possible romances with Korra will affect Bolin and Mako's brotherly dynamic.
On a side note, on my first viewing of the episode, I missed the scene with Korra dreaming of being assaulted by Chi Blockers and having her bending taken away by Amon. So, when I saw her refuse to join the anti-Equalist task force, I had actually kinda thought she was maturing. Shame it didn't turn out like that, but I feel that her run-in with Amon and her newfound sense of terror will help her grow up.
Also, I was talking with Kaxbe on the irc the other day, and he says he feels that there won't be a compromise like there would have been in Last Airbender. I'm inclined to think that he's right, but that would of course mean that bending will prevail, simply because if it didn't, that would kill the possiblity of more sequels, which in turn would lose Nick any money they could have made off of them. Therefore, if there indeed won't be a compromise like both Kaxbe and I believe, then the question becomes not "Will the Equalists or benders prevail?" but instead will be "How will the benders prevail?" I kind of hope I'm wrong, simply because I liked the idealistic spirit of TLA, even if energybending came off as a deus ex machina. Of course, it was meant to be foreshadowed, but it didn't work out the way the writers intended, so I'm hoping they'll learn from that and foreshadow the ending better this time.

Anyway, I like Asami, but she's got to get out of the way of Korra and Mako.
Lastly, having a compromise would be far more difficult this time around, I agree. Given the nature of this show, I don't know if a compromise will happen either. But I'm tempted to believe that the compromise still can happen. Like... for example, if Korra learns how to energybend the avatar way (long way to go with that, spiritually), then it can become the duty of the avatar to simply remove bending from criminals who don't deserve the ability. If she took away the bending of LBZ, it would be a message to the Triple Threat Triads that she wouldn't brook any shit. If they kept going, she would take away their bending, too.
And that wouldn't be "living in fear," because she's basically acting like a police officer. And if she became a fully realized avatar in that sense, she would be deemed mature enough to determine whether or not a person deserved his or her bending--and she's not subject to corruption. It all stems from the idea that once she is strong enough to have that power, she is also mature enough not to misuse it.
Thus, by that, the benders and non-benders could co-exist. I do admit, though, that there is still an issue of the benders being seen as superior to non-benders... But I still want to side with the whole "it's a talent, just like one person can do something while another can't" idea. Just one hell of a talent.

Episode 5: "I really like you and I think we were meant for each other!"
And then, even better...
Episode 8: "Asami, did you know Korra likes Mako?" KORRA'S FACE AT THE COMMENT OH MY GOD. xDDDDD
So, the most recent part I've seen is...
This series just keeps getting darker. It's a shame, though... I can't see episode 9 until tomorrow, since that's apparently when the dub comes to the site...

But yes. It is pretty much superior to its predecessor in... every way.
I don't know if I can rightly compare the two, though, considering two things:
1. The extreme difference of their mood and focus...
2. ... and the fact that I'm pretty sure it was already stated that, at first, the creators didn't think anything would come of the first series, so they didn't try as hard. Hence why, at least to me, it seemed to get better as the series continued.

Anyway, in a sense of irony... Korra's a teenager, and so is Mako. Teenagers have a reputation for being impulsive and irrational... which might explain the crush. They're kind of cute, the two of them, but really, Mako actually seems more fit for Asami.
I'm going to consider the new "Team Avatar" from a different perspective--they were likely doing that to cheer Korra up. So it is, in a sense, kind of forced, but by the characters themselves. I can't deny that some of it is a bit unrealistic, though.
