Forum Rules (now Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger)

Would it be acceptable to remake my "What's your temperature?" thread in Social Studies, or request that it me moved out of Recess? It was a good topic and (almost) every post in there was quality, and it sort of fits into the same category as the "Tales of Drama Survival" thread.
  • #51

Sounds lame. No.
  • #52

This rule change was something that needed to be done. Like it or not, the nearly complete freedom to do whatever people had did not work. People ended up feeling entitled, and when they did do something that needed to be addressed, they lashed back. I modded here on a "If there's a problem bring it to me" basis. The problem was though that few people would bring problems to the mods. Nearly complete lawlessness clearly didn't work, the first evidence of this was the obvious cesspool that was Random chat. That mess clearly had to be gone as things extended far beyond what they should have.

The new rules will take getting used to yes. If you're not an idiot then they shouldn't effect you though. IF you have trouble with a mod for whatever reason, remember that you can discuss it with them or others in PM's. I still will be open to help anyone who needs it be it with a mod, general member, thread or whatever. You may always contact me privately about the issue. My skype is listed in my profile and I am always on the IRC if you cannot reach me here for whatever reason. This may seem like strict enforcement, but in reality the only ones who should worry are the trouble makers.

So just sit back and relax. As long as you make good posts you shouldn't have to worry.

Getting rid of the recess thing doesn't seem like a fun idea to me, but it might be a smart move. I respect the decision.
  • #54

Well I'm not lasting a week.
  • #55

Removing Recess was for the better -- not only because of aforementioned disruption, but because it improved the structure. Before the change, the community was divided between the two sub-forums that stifled discussions in Social Studies as people were more inclined to converse in Recess.

No, really, I'm not going to do anything like that. I'm just going to do my job, and that is to uphold the rules. So all of you worrying about power trips or bias or anything - think again.

Well, we -say- we aren't Nazis, but you know, no one really knows what happened to the special ed folk. We MIGHT have thrown them in ovens. Maybe.

Not saying we did, of course. Just saying that, you know, coal is getting expensive and we've gotta keep warm during the freak snowstorms, yeah?

More seriously I don't see any problems with this. These forums aren't really meant for feedback anyway, they're more of a service for the community. They aren't like, say, the Steam Forums or something, they have a different sort of purpose and it makes sense to clamp down on them so that the creators (who made this place for fun) can, you know, have fun here.

Just remember, if we tell you to get on the train, it is taking you to the rest of the internet, not to extermination camps. Really.

Pardon me for saying this, but I just think it wasn't one of the best ideas to take away recess. I think it will make it so a lot of useless threads end up in Social Studies, so Moderators will have to... I think at least O_O... moniter Social Studies closely (or more so than usual) without the Recess forum. I'm just saying that I think it was a bad decision on your part.
  • #58

Buddy, people who act like that will probably face the consequences. And if they don't learn from their mistakes, they'll be gone. Either way, eventually Recess-related things will be eradicated, whether it be from people learning or from those people who didn't learn leaving. Or both.
  • #59

The one part I really liked about the new rules is "Everybody that was classed as Special Ed is now banned.", because they were really annoying.

I guess that the future Honor Roll threads will now be of a much higher quality than they once were, but will come up less often than they once had before.

copying the post i put on the alternate forum regarding some of the users/ the doubters of the changes there in here for reading pleasure

I became excited and got a chill down my spine when I read that Susan is now a mod. It's the same feeling when I first realized Jerk was a mod a long while back (and that turned out damn awesome), but hey SuitCase wouldn't pick a mod if they weren't qualified. I look forward to seeing Susan's brand of moderating.

At first, I was annoyed that Recess was suddenly missing from the forums, but then I thought about it and it really was just a big time sink with nothing all that interesting going on. Sure, I'll miss some of the discussions, but with these new rules about topics and whatnot there will probably be even more reason to come here than just to kill time :P

Good job summing it up. I do not even think I can counter argue without sounding stupid or childish or both. I am truly moved by your post.
Edited: Sorry I had a small typo. :/

It's pretty true. The forums, Recess in particular, had become a vortex for time-wasting. This place shouldn't be for that. Go mess around on FaceBook if you want to waste time.

stop your shit. klaus may have poorly worded his post as wasting time is all any forum is anyway, but recess was a place for wasting time in the worst possible way.

Yeah, I'll admit I could have worded that better.

Ok bye people I'm sure as hell not staying here now. Not being allowed to openly criticize leaders for doing something wrong goes against my moral code and I'm sure I won't want to be involved in the extremely hostile atmosphere that this will result in. I'm sure I won't be missed since I only really post in the pony thread now a days.
So long and thanks for all the fish.

The new rules sort of scare me. I'm all with the order and stuff and I hardly post anything anyhow but being reprimanded for questioning what a mod does is kind of harsh. A mod can do something because he's supposed to do it (rules and regulations) or because he can and nobody's allowed to argue.

So the things a mod should do in certain situations, is it in written form so the mod'll just have to follow procedure? 'cause if not then a lot of it is up to interpretation. Or the mods can just talk about it amongst themselves I guess when they get there, but then that means they can make more rules up at whim.
  • #73

Meh, a lot of the rules can be rephrased or completely changed as tweaks are made.
My main concern is how far one can push "jokes" until it warrants a warning/ban.

EDIT: @Mouse: I have no idea if mods have the typical TempBan/PermBan abilities like in all typical forums (I will assume so) but one must have faith that they will handle it with as little conflict as possible.

That's not it at all. You can argue with and about mods, just not publicly because it takes up space for otherwise intelligent discussion with drama. Just ask them why they did whatever they did. As long as you don't end up shitposting and causing retarded drama in the forums, you'll be fine. There's nothing to be afraid of as long as you contribute to the topic.

Ok these rules are pretty strict, but i can understand the reasoning behind them and why recess was axed. Video Games thread survived so am happy anyway.

As long as the Mods don't make a habit of smashing down objections in PM with soul-crushing vigour, I'm good with this.

I honestly really find it sad that it got to this point, but what comes, comes.

Aw man these words are the keywords in my theme song though.

Jokes aside the new rules will at least have the forum act a little less anarchic than it did before.

Less than 24 hours and I'm actually feeling very elated. The ones I expected to leave are gone, and the ones I hoped would become more active are active.

Now if only we could get spacemouse posting......
  • #85

I do have to be honest, I was afraid of the new rules. Now mind you this was right before work for me. Coming back to see nothing has really changed it isn't that bad at all. Though I do have uncanny fear of being yelled at or ripped a new butt hole. I mean I was always afraid to post in Social Studies because I thought I might say something wrong or do something wrong but I see I am wrong and I am happy about it.

Also my favorite Thread was saved. :3

You should've seen Suit's first draft if you wanted really scarey. But yeah, I like this revision, the old rules are still there, but it's just a heavier emphasis on active moderation. If you look at it like that, I don't think 75% of the people here are going to have too many problems adjusting.

I had that problem with Social studies at it definitely looked more like the debate thread. With recess gone there's really not much room for confusion.

@Spacemouse posting - Lets see how long this goes for ;)

Didn't people bitch and moan when we switched from the comment style forum? Or am I just projecting?
  • #97

People did bitch and moan. They generally do?

May I ask for a clarification on rule 4? In an (intelligent) debate topic, is it permitted to (politely) disagree with a moderator on the subject of the topic when they are acting as participants in the debate rather than moderators moderating the debate?

No.
