Aside from that, I like all things Yanni, as well as many video game soundtracks (LoZ FTW), and I have a special place in my heart for the trance genre.

In another completely unrelated genre, I just went to a performance of Mozart's "The Magic Flute." The rendition was in English.
My mind was not blown by the music. My mind was blown because, for at least two months prior, I had been trying to figure out my life, and in watching that performance, it shoved my brain into overdrive and I'm unbelievably closer than I was had I not seen it.

They are not screamo. Not at all. They just aren't. They are All American Thrash.

I just call them Screamo because most people don't know the difference between metal genres, a lot of people I know refer to genres like Metalcore, Death, Melodeath, Thrasher etc. as Screamo.

Now, I'm not saying everyone needs to know Lamb of God is American Thrash while Megadeth is Thrash and Pantera is Groove Metal/Thrash. But it would be nice for people to realize that certain things just simply aren't screamo.
Metal should be at least broken into highs, lows, and singing. Your lows are gonna be growls, which would be most death metal. Highs will be most screamo, black metal, and Devon Townsend (Obviously, black metal and Townsend are completely seperate form screamo, but you can only fairly ask for so much). Finally, singing would be your Metallicas to your Judas Priests.
I mean come on, recognizing highs, lows, and singing seems easy enough.

Maybe some of their new stuff could be just metal and not really thrash, but Mustaine couldn't sing Power if his life depended on it. The only reason he made it with Megadeth was because people wanted something raunchy and heavy, and he delivered. Power Metal is like Yngwie Malmsteen (not his solo shit, but the stuff he did with his bands), Nevermore, Nightwish, Helloween, and bands like that.
As for Metalcore, the only thing that separates it from "Metal" is the core. And if I may quote a wise person
"Everyone wants the apple, nobody wants the core." -Some fag on YouTube
Moral of the story, "core" adds certain implications. You instantly start breaching into the realm of screamo or grind. It is simply what it means.

Anyways, speaking of metalcore, anyone listen to mathcore? As in, hardcore/metal bands that use really weird time signatures.
This uh, might be a little hard to swallow for some people.
The Number 12 Looks Like You - Grandfather
This one has less screaming, and in my opinion this band is better anyways.
The Fall of Troy - Sledgehammer

I do, it's not that hard. Electronica tracks are usually a composite of multiple genres, which is why it might get confusing for people. You just have to look for certain characteristics.
It's funny because most of the new 'dubstep' I hear is a combination of just that, house, drum and bass, and wubstep. I can show you some songs that are more characteristic of certain genres if you want.

All That Remains - Six
I don't know why, but they still sounds like power metal to me, but I guess genre doesn't matter as long as the music is good.
@Bacon
That is the weirdest time signature I've heard any band use. I can't really get into the beat of the song, it's just weird.

(video)
No offense, but if you'd looked at the channel you would know that this is drum and bass. It's characterized by a fairly high bpm (beats per minute). Obviously is has elements of other electronica genres, it's very rare for songs to not be that way. But this is pretty straight forward as far as dnb goes.
Here's another good drum and bass song.
Carouselle - Tim Exile
House on the other hand has changed a lot over the years, but now it's mostly electro oriented. Some names you might know of groups/people that have done house music are deadmau5, justice, daft punk, and benny benassi. There are a lot of sub genres, but for the most part house music has a simple beat, is repetitive, and has a 4/4 time signature. It's fucking dance music, soooooo what do you expect?
Here's a semi typical house song.
Some deadmau5 song
Now, dubstep is a more touchy subject. It's been around since like, 2001 (correction, apparently it's 1998), so it's changed and has been mixed with other genres and split into sub genres. There are dubstep purists (how the fuck can you be so pretentious about something as arbitrary as a genre?), but I feel like if an electro song has a fat wobbly bass line, it's continuous, and the beat is made by distorting it, rather than repeating the same bass sound in a different order. Plus, dubstep songs almost always have a beat drop, sometimes several. When dubstep first came about the bass was just something quiet and in the background, usually set to lyrics, but now there's songs that sound like transformers fucking. So yeah, sometimes I can see why people can look at skrillex and be like 'that's not fucking dubstep wtf', but in my mind it's still dubstep.
tl;dr if it wobbles or goes wub wub, it's probably dubstep
A lot of dubstep artists incorporate drum and bass in their songs, and sampling old music is common (just like in any electro genre). Of course, dubstep has the unique quality of getting to remix every song in existence. But I digress, just keep in mind, not all dubstep is bass heavy.
I'm going to list several songs and talk about them. The videos will be in the order I talked about them.
Dodge & Fuski - Fierce
I chose this one because it's a pretty good example of what more mellow dubstep can sound like, and it's not so fucking crazy that it's oversaturated with other genres, it's pretty much just dubstep and drum and bass. Also, the drop in this song is fucking fantastic.
Bassnectar - Cozza Frenzy
This is pretty much my favorite dubstep song ever, that's why I'm posting it. Also, it's a good example of a dubstep synth line that's not necessarily very bass heavy. As usual, it has elements of drum and bass. I'd post the megabass remix but to be honest I like this one better.
Pretty Lights - Hot Like Sauce
I'm posting this song because pretty lights is amazing. And this is a good example of a dubstep song where the bass isnt intrusive, but still plays a big role in the song. Pretty Lights is one of those guys you can't really pin down though, I wouldn't exactly say he's dubstep since a lot of his songs aren't, but this one is defiantly influenced by it, it also has a lot of funk in it to.
There are too many genres, if you want I can introduce you to some I personally enjoy.
