Conventions (Cons, for short)

I couldn't find a conventions topic, so here we go! If one already exists, I'm sorry, next time I'll just bump it!

So, anyone been to any cons recently? Anyone going to any cons soon? Who should I look out for, and do you dress up or go as a normal person? Do you have a booth? Where can I find you and give you a hug?

I'm going to Anime Boston! on April 9th, so if anyone is going they should let me know. That's really why I started this, but seeing as how I do not think a convention topic exists...

We're going to Supanova Sydney if all goes well. We'd go to others but getting around is expensive.

One day I will have some nerdy friends in real life who are bearable enough that I could stand being in public with them as they dress like anime/homestuck characters. Then I will have a reason to go to a con and possibly enjoy myself/spend money on comics or whatever.

I'm thinking it might happen in college.

I might try to get my friend to go to Wizard World Philly. It is in, what, really early June...
he's a nerd, I'm a nerd, and yet neither of us have been to it in all these years.

Philadelphia Comic Con ǁ Pennsylvania ǁ Pennsylvania Convention Center ǁ Wizard World Philadelphia

If anyone is planning a trek down for it, private message me.

Connecticon was so nice, if only there was a way to attend it again :(

I feel like cons are pretty overrated, but, I've only been to two, so whatever.

They are definitely pretty overrated, I don't really feel like going to a con as a guest anymore because then you have all that time just.. walking around and glancing at the same things. When managing a table, you get intervals to take a break, and I guess that builds more tasks to do, and if there's someone you want to see, you're motivated to leave on your break to see them. Like at Connecticon I took a break to see the voice actor for Angry Beavers' Daggett. That was ace.

There is so much inbetween time between shows of interest that you gotta either be into every show and program to make it feel fulfilling.

I guess it also depends on your passions and what you're into, because if you're not into the more recent anime and fads, all the merchandise will seem unappealing. I found a lot of trouble with that. Like there was a Supanova that was chock-full of Haruhi merchandise and this is before watching the show.

Then the next year was K-On!, I guess it discourages from buying overly expensive merchandise, but it's been a long time since I've seen a product and gone SQUEE I WANT IT

I have a few friends who are going to Anime Boston but, I can't make it myself. I will, however, be going to CPAC in Hoboken, NJ in a week and potentially AnimeNext in Somerset, NJ in June.

I went to Anime Expo in Los Angeles, CA in 2008 and 2011. The first time I went, I cosplayed as Luffy from One Piece. The second time was spent as Amuro from Mobile Suit Gundam. I'm not sure about any conventions that are happening in South Korea, but I'd love to go to one in Japan. The only problem is that I don't have a costume... Even then, I wouldn't know who to cosplay as. :(

I actually went to New York Comic Con this past October, and it would have been fun if it weren't for a few key things. See, I went with two friends and my brother, and it would have been a blast, but my parents made me promise to remind my brother to take his meds. And even though we all promised to stay together, he went wandering off. So we spend nearly the whole time looking for him, because I'm afraid he'll get sick without his meds. We also spent too long shopping, so by the time we go to the game demoes, the lines are too long for it to be wothhile.

I did get a Core Drill Necklace!

But my friend broke the clasp

so it's useless

oh well

I will be heading to Anime Detour in Minneapolis this weekend.
And at the end of July I will be staffing a convention in South Dakota called Sogencon.
I will probably his a few other cons also, but I don't know which ones yet.

Really? What day did you go, and did you see a 4chan girl walking around?
  • #14

I went on Sunday, and I didn't see a 4chan girl, I don't think. I did see several girls dressed in some... sensual outfits. I'm not sure if that counts, but if it does ,then I did. Were you the 4chan girl in question?
  • #15

Yeah :( but I went on Saturday so you would not have seen me anyway...
