Spaghetti Bolognese.

So it seems I can't shut up about food.

Maybe that means I'm pregnant, god hopes not.

BUT I NOTICED SOMETHING ANNOYING ABOUT SOUPPY AND I

see I love certain kinds of food, to the point that I can eat it over and over and over and not get over. Give me spaghetti bolognese every day, totally cool with that.

Souppy? Not so much at all. He can't have the same thing for too long, making specialized diets difficult. Any of you guys similar? Any dumb eating habits? Any things you freaken LOVE but notice nobody else loves?

Like seriously, mix mashed potatoes with rice and tuna. It looks like cat food BUT IT'S MY FAVOURITE.

Or are you picky as in you can only eat quality food, or are you a vegetarian? Or are you suffering the SPACEMOUSE DISEASE and how do you cope with that. Or the boomer disease, since he's my food wavelength buddy.

All food all the time

I wouldn't say the foods I like are out of the ordinary. My favorite food is filet mignon, nine ounces, cooked medium-rare (bonus if it's helped by a nice, spicy seasoning). After that is good old angel hair pasta with butter. Damn, good thing I've already eaten or I'd be hungry just talking about those two ambrosial dishes.

What's weird about me are the foods (and drinks) that I don't like. Soda, for instance. That stuff rapes my tongue in a manner of unpleasantness that you would expect out of rape. I don't like mashed potatoes and... water, even though both of them supposedly have no taste. Although, even water tastes good if I'm dehydrated.

I guess what's also weird is that I drink milk almost exclusively. For breakfast, for dinner, and generally chocolate milk for lunch.

I think the amount of foods and drinks that I like, combined, probably only total up to about 70. And that's including candy.

EDIT: And to answer that "death row" question that you have, it would indeed be my favorite dish, along with a side of fries and a /giant/ jug of milk.

Isn't drinking milk in an excess amount like really bad for you? I always felt like you are recommended to drink it, but if that's the exclusive beverage that's not too recommended?

Also Hahahhaha, I am a child that always wants flavored drinks :( water is like last resort unless I'm really hot and need something super cold and refreshing, icy cold water helps then. I can't drink room temp water without feeling queasy because I'm lame

Also man I am the only person that truly loves soda without the fizz....... I can't drink coke for that reason, it tastes too strong. Ideally I have diet coke after it sat for a while and ice cubes diluted it. ALWAYS DILUTING SODA WITH ICE CUBES.

If it's pasta, I'll probably eat it. Except that dumb chocolate pasta that tastes terrible.

I actually went a whole week eating nothing but pasta... about a month and a half ago? My parents went out of town and sent me to the market with a credit card and told me to buy whatever food I wanted so I wouldn't starve while they were gone. I bought like 6 boxes of pasta, 3 sauces, and some snack food.
Ok maybe it wasn't NOTHING but pasta for a whole week because I had granola bars to eat for breakfast but I definitely had mac and cheese for breakfast one morning that week, and pasta for lunch and dinner every day.

Best week of the year.

@Taeshi: Oh, it's bad if you drink it too much, because you can get a kidney stone from it. But that generally only happens to adults. The advantage to being my age and having a relatively healthy body is I that it can take a lot. I'm not saying I'm trying to deliberately trash my body, though. xD;; Just saying I can do stuff like eat a lot of candy and not get fat/sick, or in this case, drink a lot of milk and not have repercussions. It helps that my body is a lot more used to milk than most people. ... Milk is like alcohol to me. I'd say something like "I can quit if I want to!" and then just end up drinking more... Some people remark that I drink my milk like an alcoholic, even...

SO ANYWAY. Flavored drinks are far better than water, indeed. With water that isn't the right temperature (cold, but not icy cold), I tend to make the "IMPOSSIBRU" face when swallowing it--if you know which face I'm talking about. ;;

Well that's just it--I feel as though soda without fizz might not be so bad, but I don't have the patience to get rid of the carbonation. I've waited 10 minutes for fizz to die down (which probably isn't near enough) and drank it and it was /still/ unpleasant. Closest I've ever coming to liking a soda is sprite, but that's probably because it's basically lemonade with fizz, and lemonade is probably my second favorite drink.

If I was getting the electric chair? Two main lobsters, a juicy Porterhourse steak cooked Medium-Well, an onion blossom, a sword fish steak and some Spicy Tuna Rolls (because I've always wanted to try them.) Fuck modesty, I'm going to die.

To be honest, I can't say whether or not most the foods I like are out of the ordinary, because I don't have much exposure to other people's households. There's probably more than a few that seem normal to me that other people would cringe at. We do have a dish we call "Hamburger Macaroni Bake" which is crumpled hamburger, canned mushrooms, elbow macaroni and cream of mushroom soup sprinkled with cheese and baked. It's delicious, but it looks disgusting.

As mentioned before, I enjoy Coke that's gone flat and I love drinking warm soda. Usually when I'm given a soda someone says, "It isn't cold yet--" right before I down half the can. It's been known to freak people out.

Milk is seriously good for you, and drinking in excess like 2-3 glasses of milk a day hasn't affected my body negatively at all. All its done is make my bones SERIOUSLY durable. In regards to weird food, not really unless you count it odd that I don't like courgette but I like courgette soup? My favorite kind of food varies on my mood, but lots of times I LOVE LASAGNA!! But I like my fair share of Tortellini Carbonara, or Macaroni with a salty soy sauce.

Electric chair I would most likely choose for a Lobster dish followed by Lamb ribs, with as a finishing touch chocolate mousse with dried apple slices.

Wait you like coke that has gone flat? What is this madness?

I'd pick something cold for my last meal before the chair. Doesn't matter what as long as they serve it on Mila Kunis's tits.
  • #9

Let's see...usually when I start eating I get really hungry and can't stop myself...that of I slow myself down to match the speed of everyone around me, other wise I kinda just go at the speed of light.

My favorite food? Ummm i'd have to say it's chicken, grilled, bbq or fried.

And I hate cold drinks and hot drinks...for some reason I like them at room temperature.
  • #10

Peanut butter on waffles.

So, I know it's pretty commonplace in the US, but what other countries put ice in their drinks?
I've heard it's not very common in most places, especially in developing nations (which is probably more for reasons that don't pertain to culture).

Also, I love me some god damn sweet tea. It pisses me off when I travel and ask if they have sweet tea and they're like 'no, but you can get unsweet and put some sugar packets in it'.

MOTHA FUCKA DAT SHIT AINT DA SAME
  • #11

This shit.
Spoiler

No one else I know likes it, probably due to the fact that it looks... less than safe to drink.

I hate tomato. As in, don't mind ketchup, or bolognese, or pretty much anything with them in, but by themselves? Fuck no. They're just slimy and disgusting and blagh I just hate them so much.
  • #12

Well, on that note I have to say I'm not a fan of tomatoes either; unfortunately, I'm also not a fan of sweet tea (or anything overly sweet).

If there is one local food I'm batshit about, it's gotta be Kansas City-style barbecue. I cannot stand that "Kansas City Masterpiece" crap (it isn't a real KC sauce). I want me some thin, savory, peppery tomato-based sauce. If you've never been to Kansas City, you should know we have a LOT of great barbecue places, but for the average resident the war comes down to Arthur Bryant's and Gates and Sons. Both trace their roots back to the father of KC barbecue--Henry Perry. Both have harsh, flavorful and pepper-filled sauces (though Bryant's uses a touch of molasses). Both are the places to eat at if you're visiting the city.

Seriously, just look at this:
Spoiler
.

Anyway, it's really impossible to describe KC style barbecue to someone who is used to thick, syrupy, sweet sauces, but our barbecue is considered by many critics to be the best in the nation.

And @Mister Dean: I don't see why that's gross? It looks kinda like tea or Mountain Dew to me.
  • #13

Anyone besides me actually had chicken and waffles? Damn good combination. A tad bit of the syrup get on the chicken makes it nice and sweet with the right amount of hot sauce...o...so delicious.

@Carcharocles: the fact that it's neon orange seems to make most people think it's wierd. With MD it's still green, but nowhere near the same colour as the bottle.

i love hot dogs smeared with peanut butter and bacon bits. they are my favorite hot dogs.
don't knock it till you try it, trust me.
i have terrible eating habits. i am pretty underweight and i've just lost more as time went on last year. i went days without actually eating because for no good reason and my primary diet consisted of peanut butter, cereal and water, like legit eating a few spoonfuls of peanut butter for dinner. then it got better then worse cuz i started taking these shits that had a side effect of suppressing my hunger further over the summer and i found myself eating and ending up in the bathroom gagging and shit and people started getting sorta concerned i had some eating disorder, so ive been eating better since. i still dont eat enough and i eat a bunch of shit, but def better! fascinating
my last dish before i went to the chair would be some crazy fuckin huge sampler with weird shit like possum and cow dick just so i could be like "yeah i tried cow dick before i was put to death by the state for motorcycling off a ramp, doing a flip in the air, and landing on the president, i dont give a FUCK"

I guess a weird (read: bad) eating habit of mine is that I don't eat shit all day, then stay up too late while snacking on a ton of food. It's not usually junk food, like, one night I ate fucking hummus and rye crackers for three hours.

The reason I do this is because my medication sequesters my appetite, and makes me stay up. So when it's like one in the morning and that shit wears off I'm usually starving.

By the way, this stuff is so fucking amazing.

Oh my god snooths that sounds so terrible ;___; Were you just not hungry or what? I can understand just.. not eating for a day or eating a little bit and that is your meal. I used to do that very often when I was younger as well. Like.. you're knocking about and doing so much that you then think "oh wait haven't eaten anything today huh"

and yeah, it sounds like Boomer got me beat on the foods he won't eat/hasn't tried, but I don't think I'm too far off :-[

also tudfjghftkjhgitfkghf tomatoes no. Not even ketchup. NEVER PUT SAUCES ON FOOD. This is actually a very VERY recent occurrence. Like it's only this year that I've begun putting mayonnaise on chicken burgers for example. And like I won't have gravy on turkey during thanksgiving, etc. Everything was always dry.....
  • #19

I went out for sushi with my dad and there's one fish they serve with the head and tail curved up but the whole skeleton intact. If you ask, they'll fry it for you like tempura.

So basically I ate fried fish skeleton. It's pretty good, actually.

Also, I can understand the sauce thing. I grew up with the best steak. If you have to put sauce on a steak, you are eating a shitty steak from a shitty cook.

Last time I was in spain, I saw a thing on a menu called 'ajo blanco'. So I was just thinking "Okay, it's probably just roast garlic or something, I'll go with that." And it came. And it really wasn't.

It was basically just a bowl of milk with chunks of melon in it, so I tried the milk and it turns out that it'd had garlic soaking in it, so the milk tasted garlic-ey and it sounds horrible but it was actually fantastic and if you ever see it anywhere you should try it. I have no idea if it's a common thing or just something this particular restaurant did.

I think my worst habit is because I'm a lazy fucker I pretty much end up living off of coffee and cereal during the holidays.

Strange food? I tend to experiment with food all the time. When I cook, I usually find a base resource - rice, couscous, a form of pasta, potatoes, or something similar - then add other content wantonly. The end result is often unpredictable, but I do have enough of a grasp on what I like to have avoided creating something that would end up being poured into the sink. The results are, arguably, very strange; however, I quite like them. ^_^

Quote

All its done is make my bones SERIOUSLY durable.

I used to use that argument when I was younger. I would consume copious quantities of milk, probably upwards of a litre a day, and tell those who worried that I wanted to be perfectly certain that I would not break a single bone in my body, should I ever fall off of a tall building and into a concrete floor. This is, of course, completely nonsensical, given that there are other injuries of arguably much worse severity to suffer, if such a situation were to occur.

Yet, I still have not reduced the amount of milk I drink daily. This has multiple reasons. :smirk:
  • #26

I don't think my eating habits are weird, really, or that I like anything that is too different from what other people would find enjoyable. I have found that I just cannot drink normal milk, like, milk from an animal. Drinking that stuff actually makes me gag. And I'm not lactose intolerant or anything, I eat lots of cheese and I put cream in my coffee and everything. I just can't drink animal milk. I can drink soymilk, though. soymilk is wonderful.

I've also found that recently I have this strange attachment to apples when it comes to snacking. Even though I like other fruits, I just find myself munching away on apples instead. It's this weird craving that just isn't being satisfied.

And the way I like to eat bacon is different from how I've noticed other people eat bacon. A lot of people like really crispy bacon, but I prefer almost-raw bacon with all the fat still on it. Of course, I'll still cook it crispy if I'm cooking for other people, but if the bacon is going to be just for me, FAT CITY.

As for the last meal, I don't know. I'm not picky. Maybe I'll know what I want when it actually happens.

THE SPACEMOUSE DISEASE

Oh also I really love this one dish my mom used to call Sloppy Joe pizza
basically take Sweet Baby Ray's bbq, cook up some ground beef in it, add corn, spread it on a bobili pizza crust, and cover in all the cheeses you want.
bake.

eat. enjoy. it's the best.

basically i'd probably have to say a bunch of italian dishes. stuffed pastas, garlic bread, antipasto... mmm
  • #28

Haha my boyfriend and I are the same way, in that we have particular eating habits. The only thing we share is our love of Italian food.

I was raised in a Filipino-Chinese household, so there was a lot of fusion cooking going on. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE fish and general seafood, though. Shrimp, clams, tuna, salmon (Oh god, Salmon), crab, scallops, squid..you get the drift. My boyfriend on the other hand is the complete opposite and despises fish and seafood for its "fishy taste". I also feel that he's more Americanized than me, so he's more accustomed to burgers, pizzas, hot dogs, and the like. He's not always willing to try new, especially foreign foods, compared to me. I tell him time and again that the "fish" taste from seafood is due to bad quality, but he doesn't believe me. At least he loves my New England clam chowder recipe. The only seafood I don't like, really, is oysters, raw. I can eat them fried though. I'd love to try urchin and fugu someday. I guess a strange food that I really like is dinuguan, which is pork stewed in its own blood. I know, it sounds pretty morbid but it's delicious.. I suppose it's only unusual to anyone that's not familiar with Filipino cuisine, haha.

As for my last meal, it would be a seafood marinara dish with strozzapreti pasta OR plain steamed rice with fried tilapia (a type of fish) with diced raw onions, tomatoes and a side of patis, a type of Filipino fish sauce. It's such a comfort food for me and always reminds me of my childhood and eating with my parents. It always brings me back to any memory I have of fishing with my parents, though we still try to go fishing at least a few times every summer. :)

So, I have quit soda. Again. I'm eating these frozen dinners? I forget what they're call but they're three bucks a pop, less than one calorie per cent on the dollar. Tastes outstanding.

I mention this because I remember some apocalyptic science fiction or shit I read where the people in a bunker are stuck with freeze-dried spaghetti bolognese, so now I associate this thread with TV dinners.

Well I went to Italy last summer and one of the last places we got to was Naples.
Most amazing pizza ever.
I don't even like tomato sauce on pizza that much but the pizza in Naples had a ton and it was better than any pizza I've had before.
The restaurant we went to also did this thing where they took extra pizza dough and made a little dough animal to go with your pizza. I remember getting a swan.

I used to like peanut butter and gherkins on eggos when I was younger, tastiest lazy-man's breakfast I had available.

I'm a little on the picky side of things, I can eat the same thing often for about a week or 2 before I have to switch to something else. Sometimes I'll binge on a particular food for lunches for a few weeks, like ravioli, grilled cheese sandwiches, or perogies.

My last meal would probably be a macho-man sized plate of nachos for an appetizer (best nachos I ever had from a local bar), baked fettucini alfredo with extra cheese, pepperoni, and maybe even black olives (my favourite dish at Houston Pizza), along with that I'd have dry ribs and logers (sp?) from the bar of my choice (The Last Straw or Bonzini's) for the entree and a slice of chocolate caramel cake for dessert. I would fry a happy, bloated, man.

Now i'm a huge fan of clam chowder...pretty much the only soup I will eat and enjoy fully. So when I was in Boston, I naturally indulged in some authentic New England Clam Chowder....I mean how could I pass it up? Sounds mouth watering. I love clam chowder, but most restaurants I have it in almost never have any personal touch, like it's Chunky Clam Chowder or something. I like homemade, where my mom adds 2 or 3 cans of clam and is always experimenting with spices and whatnot.
  • #38

When it comes to eating I am actually a pretty picky guy. I really can't just have the same thing over and over or it just begins to taste bland to me. Except for Ramen, I will eat that stuff all day, every day! One of my biggest quirks would have to be that I put Hot Sauce on almost anything I eat. I even had it on ice cream before, and honestly it was not that bad. XD

I also will never eat any lettuce, which leads to the creation of what I call the Serek Salad, and it consists of: Bacon bits, Dried Onions, Sunflower Seeds, Croutons, Raisins and Cheese. I also tend to make the weirdest sandwich, like mixing BBQ sauce with sliced ham and peanut butter, also you can't forget the hot sauce.

As for my last meal, I would have to go with Japanese-made Ramen(The ones made in the the little Ramen stands are the best), About 40 Extra spicy wings, and my Grandmother's homemade Triple Chocolate Cake!

Certainly did, I love me some wings and hot sauce. You can be an honorary negro when you eat them. I decree it.
  • #42

I'm actually fine with eating the same foods over and over again, like around a year ago, my mom decided to really LOVE shiitake mushrooms, so she made these spicy veggie and chicken noodles with shiitake mushroom, and I literally had that stuff for every single meal for about five days. I even had that stuff as my snack, like I would saunter on over to the fridge in the middle of doing my homework, and just pick out the noodles, chicken, and mushroom, and just eat it cold hoping no one sees me stuffing my face. But my mom ended up running out of those accursed mushrooms, and I never had a shiitake mushroom until about a few months later, and just smelling those stupid mushrooms made me want to gag. That's happened to me with other foods too, the whole loving it, not having it for a while, then ABSOLUTELY ABHORRING IT thing.

But I'm pretty good with not being picky. I guess if you grow up with a chef as your dad, and your mom being a very well traveled Korean, you tend to be a little more exposed to stuff than the average American gal.

Also, with the getting the electric chair thing, I'd eat those little Lindt chocolate bunnies, and a lot of them. I'd probably be shoving my face full of those little rabbits, because THEYRE CHOCOLATE AND DELICIOUS :T
  • #43

I used to work at Lindt and I could eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted and as such....chocolate just doesn't taste good to me anymore. I have had enough to last me a lifetime. I used to love candy, but that store made it not so much anymore. Of course that didn't stop me from bringing en unending horde of chocolate to school to share. I made quite a bundle on Valentines Day.
  • #44

Since it is Easter and all I thought it would be appropriate to tell about one type of Easter candy that I CAN NOT stand.

You guys know the Cadbury Creme Eggs? Yeah those things are the bane of my Easter. It is the creme that just makes me go eww. The taste, plus the way the creme just oozes into your mouth just irks me.

I can eat the same thing every single day, and actually do for lunch - I can eat say, pepperoni or turkey or ham or salami sandwiches every day for a month and have done so previously. Indeed, I am currently in the middle of a salami sandwich kick. That being said, its not because its my favorite food so much as it is that it tastes fine and I am lazy (and have a lot of salami at the moment). I once ate steak and potatoes every night for a week.

That being said I DO try to vary my diet typically to avoid malnutrition or similar things, but it would take me a long time to get really bored with food.

Quote

What's weird about me are the foods (and drinks) that I don't like. Soda, for instance. That stuff rapes my tongue in a manner of unpleasantness that you would expect out of rape. I don't like mashed potatoes and... water, even though both of them supposedly have no taste. Although, even water tastes good if I'm dehydrated.

Pure water doesn't have a taste, but most water has some minerals in it. Indeed, absolutely pure water will kill you if you drink enough of it - deionized water will actually suck the nutrients OUT of your body. Don't drink it kids. However, I suspect what you mostly "taste" is actually the texture of water more or less. I drink like a gallon of water a day though so *shrug*

I am currently weaning myself off soda, and by that I mean "I have stopped getting soda so once my current supply runs out I will be done". I'm replacing it with juice and the old standby, milk.

Quote

I guess what's also weird is that I drink milk almost exclusively. For breakfast, for dinner, and generally chocolate milk for lunch.

I just drink regular milk.

Quote

Isn't drinking milk in an excess amount like really bad for you? I always felt like you are recommended to drink it, but if that's the exclusive beverage that's not too recommended?

Its fine; drinking milk in excess will only hurt you if you are prone to forming things like kidney stones. If you aren't, then drink away. Indeed, it is potentially one of the better beverages due to its high calcium content - makes your bones stronger, and calcium is an important neurotransmitter.

I drink up to a half gallon a day with no ill effects. There have been times when I've drunk a gallon a day with no ill effects.
  • #46

Titanium, how do you drink so much of a single beverage? After a couple cups, drinking more of any one drink is pretty torturous to me. I'm also trying to wean myself off of soda (although I haven't been doing a very good job, admittedly) and from what I've seen from other people doing it, drinking water (and occasionally milk) as your sole drink has some really great benefits.

That said, I doubt I will ever be pop-free, but I'm trying to choose water over pop when I have a choice. I'll get better at it...
  • #47

Titanium, how do you drink so much of a single beverage? After a couple cups, drinking more of any one drink is pretty torturous to me. I'm also trying to wean myself off of soda (although I haven't been doing a very good job, admittedly) and from what I've seen from other people doing it, drinking water (and occasionally milk) as your sole drink has some really great benefits.

That said, I doubt I will ever be pop-free, but I'm trying to choose water over pop when I have a choice. I'll get better at it...

I mostly drink water, soda, and milk, though I have just replaced soda with juice in my lunches as of this week - soda is just getting bland to me. I like juice a great deal, and it is better for you than soda anyway, so I figure it will be an easy switch.

Yes I know, funny that I drink more milk, but milk has a certain something to it which makes me enjoy it. I suspect it is the combination of sugar and fat (I drink 2% milk) as well as just a natural inclination towards the fluid.

Really the way I am going to wean myself off soda (and the way I've done it before) is that I just say "after I finish off my current supply I will no longer buy it as a regular beverage". So I run out of soda in the house and just drink milk and juice from then on. If you eat out, I suppose its a bit harder, but there are other options.

Canned tuna mixed with mayonaise and a bit of black pepper on whitebread. Most people hate canned tuna. I like it, and I so did not buy 22 cans of it on sale.

Last meal - Ham sandwich with no mayo. *le gasp*
