Does Lucy Even Deserve Someone At the Moment?

Note: This thread is to debate the character of Lucy ONLY. No need to debate your own love life, dammit.

As of recent chapters in the comic, Lucy has confessed love for Mike and quickly rebounded to Paulo. She has recovered somewhat from that and I'm guessing that soon there will be more Mike/Lucy/Paulo drama in just a few chapters with the play coming out soon.

Lucy has proven herself to be selfish several times in the comic. She puts herself before others. And don't start me on the whole "But in the vacation arch she was so sad when she thought that Mike was dead!" bullshit. Mike is only an emotional crutch to her, nothing more. Mike has always been there for her and has been easier to take for granted.

Now before you all go all "Mike x Paulo`~~~" on me, keep in mind that she used Paulo also. Paulo became nothing more than a Mike replacement after Mike turned her down. However, (and you PauloxLucy shippers will love this) since she genuinely liked Paulo when they were younger, she had less reason to use him.

So based on evidence from the comic, does Lucy deserve a relationship right now? Would she even benefit from one? Personally, I think she needs to get her shit together before she can be in a relationship.

For now, she should be

Yes yes. A thousand times yes.

I can only agree with you.
WHAT ELSE CAN I SAY?
  • #4

At the moment that bitch is too crazy to have somebody.

So to answer your question, no she doesn't deserve someone at this moment.

I disagree with you, Gabriel. She tossed herself into the river to save Michael, and she would not do that - impulsively - if she had only thought of him as an emotional crutch. It is obvious that she cares for him more than you credit her for; they share(d) a mutual friendship for years without any of this love business.

It is true that she has been relying on Michael rather too much, and that she went straight for Paulo after being rejected. However, the fact that she knows he cares for her, and also that she had a crush on him before she started loving Michael, tells me that her switch was not a rebound in the sense you make it out (random fling because of rejection). I would say that it was a rebound, yes, but far from random. If she had not had that bond with Paulo, I doubt the story would have gone to this length.

Those are my two cents at the current moment. ^_^

Only after Jasmine viciously dumps his ass on the curb.

The answer is no, she doesn't deserve anyone right now. She does, however, need to take a look at how she acts before she tries anything.

Stating first: I am not a MikexLucy shipper. But in light of what you said,

Quote

I'll have to defend Lucy just a bit. Mike is not only that to her. You even said it yourself, she confessed love for Mike sometime ago.
My opinion is that she is weak, since she rebounded to Paulo and they almost had sex.

And, I'm not one to say eeeevery things get better once in a relationship, but I do think that if Lucy really liked someone that could make her better.
That happened in the awesome chapter with the alternate reality.

What she needs to do is give up on Mike, goddamnit.
Little crybaby. >:(

I really like this thread cause its how I felt the first time i read this comic up to chapter 60. I was kinda thinking of how no one really would have put up with lucy. Taeshi said in one of her comments that people need to stop raging over mike seeming jerky because he didn't have the patience of god. i am a believer in MikexLucy cause i would rage if the comic ended without my main opinion followed for I hate surprise. Lucy is a good character just waiting for a bit more development so she isn't such a bitch anymore.

pauloxlucy is fine.
  • #15

she doesn't deserve anyone,
but no-one really does.
she appears to be using mike as an emotional crutch, and as selfish, but you can clearly see ilb's point n the emotional crutch thing, and she has been trying to change for mike (as demonstrated by her trying to stop insulting him).
i think taeshi is trying to demonstrate a devotion, and willingness to change on the part of lucy.
  • #16

I wouldn't say "deserve," but I do think she has some issues to work out before she starts thinking about pursuing a relationship.

And you know what?

She could do a lot worse than Paulo. :nope:

I just wish he and Mike were tighter as friends. And you know what else? I think exploring Mike's side in the whole PauloxLucy arc may have been interesting. But that moment's passed, sort of. Or not.

Fuck it, I'm just along for the ride.

(PS: That image is hilarious.)

Snooths...wtf? D:

Anyway, I think Lucy does deserve someone. Maybe not someone in a relationship, but someone to help her a bit more. Paulo was there for a while but than he kind of acted like an idiot. She's just going through tough times right now, once it's all over I think she should deserve someone. No one deserves to be alone if they don't want to.

I agree wholeheartedly with ILB's argument. Lucy does feel something for Mike beyond the realm of "emotional crutch". The better question I have is can or does Mike reciprocate her feelings? As much as I'd like to say "yes" to that question I cannot at this point in time. His earlier line where she asked "So someone miles away can mean more to you than I can?" and he flatly put "Yes." is evidence against what I like, but I digress.

Does Lucy deserve someone? Everyone deserves someone. No matter how different, mutated, cruel, rude, or biased you are, you still deserve a chance at happiness. The question whether it is best for her is different as I feel she needs to work with her issues first and then decide who she really loves and which romance she can pursue. I'd put forth that she'd find a greater happiness in Mike than Paulo -- remember that true love never runs smooth, but it's worth all of the pain and heartache that is attached. If they do ever get together I'd venture to say that it'd be a deep relationship, but the entire subject is up for debate.

bla bla bla rambling :-*

You're the one expecting people in a high school-themed forum based on a high school-themed comic, many of whom are high school-themed age, to talk about high school-themed topics with anything more than high school-themed intelligence.

*heavy sigh* (not because the pairing in necissarily a bad one, just because Taeshi said it)

But in all seriousness, I would say Lucy does deserve someone, Lucy has problems to be sure: she has some manner of attachment disorder (which will have to be resolved sooner or later), and she is selfish at least on the surface. But of course it's not Lucy's nature to think of others before herself, in her mind why should she? When she was young her only friend totally ignored her while just about everyone one else her age was shunning her. By the time that stage of her life was past her a kind of trust no none, think only of your self mentality had emerged.

Personally I think this is just as much of a ruse as her hard, mean, outward personality is. Look at her relationship with her pets, even if she almost never shows it Lucy is capable of thinking of others before herself. She used Paulo and she used Mike as emotional crutches to support herself that I think cannot be argued, but on some level she does care I think. If she can break out of her shell, if she can find a way trust another, Lucy could and would deserve someone. Maybe not Mike, maybe not Paulo...but a character yet to be revealed perhaps...

Hehe, I was wondering when Susan would post here. (She's the craziest LucyxMike shipper I know ;) )

Concerning to what Susan said,

Quote

I'd put forth that she'd find a greater happiness in Mike than Paulo

I agree that she would find greater happiness with Mike, because in my opinion Mike is better than Paulo >_<
(don't rage, Paulo lovers, I like the guy, but like Mike better)
BUT

I think if magically Sandy disappeared and Mike ended up with Lucy, Mike wouldn't find greater happiness with Lucy.
Lucy needs to be a better person before that happens, cause Mike is kinda tired of it.

But, there is Sandy. So...
Lucy should give up on him, at least while he's taken.
(and I do agree everyone deserves happiness/love, but there are people still argue that some don't deserve even life. Much more love...)

EDIT:

I think Lucy needs to have someone like carl from ATHF. someone who is just great at puttin a bitch in her place.
  • #29

She needs a dick like Paulo. Then they can bitch and whine and fight forever and eternity.
  • #30

Paulo X Lucy all the way! On that note, I dont think it can happen till one of several things hapens. A:Jazz dumps him for no reason. B:Jazz dumps him for wanting to have sex and she just isn't ready. C:Jazz dumps him for knocking her up and her parents makeing her have an abortion. :O

I want Lucy to come out of her shell. I saw that start to happen when she confesed to Mike got rejected tried to jump Paulo got rejected, then in chapter #55 page 1 and 2 it starting to happen. Then Paulos horrible downward spiral. Then Jazz who im starting to warm up to. 8-)

What really gets me, is the whole "What would Lucy want out of a relationship?" thing.

What would Lucy want to change between her and Mike? Because I kinda doubt there is any sexual reasons for it. It kinda looks like she just wants to know that Mike would be there for her. Just knowing that really makes life a lot less stressfull you know? Having someone to turn to when everything goes shit.

Oh. And just because you love someone, doesn't mean they have to be your girlfriend. Chances are Mike does care about Lucy, but feels that if he says so then he is betraying Sandy.

As for Paulo, he's just a friend (and a good one for not taking advantage of Lucy) and it should stay that way.
  • #32

I think it would be good for Lucy to have someone to bring her out of her shell. ScoffPauloscoff. Not necessarily a boyfriend, but just someone whom she can trust. Alas, it is never so simple.

After she's sufficiently healed internally and secure, it's for whoever would make her happiest. I guess it could be Mike, but Mike seems to have gotten very... bitter about it all.

Or y'know, she could learn to rollerskate and go Paranoia Agent on people. That's all good too.
  • #33

The concept of "deserving" is in and of itself is dumb, IMHO.
  • #34

PauloXLucy :)
  • #35

She does deserve someone to be there, but I wouldn't say a boyfriend, I mean really she hits people...a lot.

I don't see why everyone thinks that she needs a boyfriend, wouldn't anyone besides me be happy with Lucy just becoming good friends with Mike (good friends as in no beatings and uneeded insults), as Mike helps her to overcome all her insecurities and flaws, while at the same time having Mike stay honourable to his relationship with Sandy?
  • #36

Deserve is a funny word. Has she done anything to endear herself to the other members of the cast? Well, unless you subscribe to anime logic and think tsunderes are inherently endearing, well then, no she hasn't done all that much. The only significant, selfless thing she did that I can think of is when she stood up rape cat (yeah, I'm blanking on his name, sorry), but no one seems to remember that. Which is understandable, since Lucy has worked pretty hard at being singularly arbitrarily abrasive and cruel.

Does that mean you have to be a good person in order to deserve love? I'm not really inclined to think so, but it doesn't hurt to be capable of showing affection at times other than when you're completely hysterical. Lucy needs to work on that and a pile of other things as well, like her severe dependency issues.

I'm sure this has been said, but I think the healthiest thing for Lucy is to be alone for now, to recoup a little bit and work on reminding people just why she is desirable (as a friend or otherwise).

I have one question in all this. If it been Paulo who was about to die, would Lucy have jumped in to save him? Or said idiot and walked off?
  • #40

As long as Lucy is as emotionally unstable, highly agressive, over the top selfish and in denial as she currently is, she should be on her own.

I believe she would have attempted to save Paulo as well, Fighter, although if we are talking about a case of possible drowning she may not have the strength to do it even with Michael. Or, it depends on the situation, surely. But yes, I think she would have done the same for Paulo, although admittedly her determination to cross fire and water may well be a bit stronger for Mike.

But that is just speculation on my part. I really have no idea. ^_^
