Kickstarter

What is everyone's opinion on the website that could help fund almost any project?

Honestly, I think this is a best alternative for those who wants to put their stuff out for the public ASAP instead of going through every red tape just to get even one product out. At the very least, those who go through with this at least have creative control as oppose to big corporations meddling in their ideas.

Hopefully, this website keeps going on and strong over time.

Kickstarter is fine. Its a great website that allows a developer to draw upon the wallets of customers before they have developed anything.

That said, some people have some really stupid kickstarter ideas. As an example:

Sometimes I search Kickstarter for neat gadgets and cool things to back, and I'm always so so disappointed. I think I made some witty tweet about it being Skymall for hipsters, and I stand by it.

I saw this, and thought it was a good alternative.
In a nutshell, this project wants to make the relationship between the crowds of investors ('backers') and the company more solid. The company will have more responsibility to the investors than just sending them a shirt, because there is a binding agreement in place.

I like it, I find it to be a pretty good way to donate to stuff.

Some guys on another message board I frequent are going to use Kickstarter to make a video game with donations. I hope it's as great as people say it is.

Have you guys seen that Kickstarter that the author of Twokinds started? Holy fuck it has a lot of donations. It reached its goal of 25k in less than 12 hours

I still don't understand why it's so shocking to people! There hasn't really been much merchandise for the comic available until now, so for the fans they have a lot to want to get.

Funny enough I was asked about this.

I'm starting a kickstarter to stop the spread of HIV in Africa. For every twenty five cents you donate, you purchase one bullet to remove one person from the problem and take one step closer to he solution.

I would donate to Tom Fischbaugh if he promised to sever his right hand or inflict similar mutilations on his sub-human fans.

Your right he is offering quite a lot to backers, but raising 87k in about 4-5 days is kinda unexpected. Its pretty funny though how some people have donated $1200-$1000 to him suppose they are pretty hardcore fans.

This was one of those ´´Good ideas`` I was talking about.

What's wrong with TwoKinds?

You mean aside from the awful story, awful fans and awful artist?

...
Surfice it to say I disagree with those viewpoints.

Tom Fischbaugh became an artist because he knows that there is no possible way he could ever draw anything uglier than his own actual face.

Seriously, he has a mug that would make Hieronymous Bosch weep.

I once backed a webcomic book, mostly out of pity. I liked the webcomic it was for, but the artist barely had a following to speak of because of very irregular updates. It didn't reach it's goal.

Had I heard of this sooner, I probably would have backed this because I love boardgames and whatnot.
