Realizing that the Down in Phoenix Down was not referring to the state of being down but instead the feather type was quite the facepalmer, especially since it's such a no brainer thing, you'd think.
I"m not a native speaker, though, and my thesaurus was quite meager at that point. Still I never gave it a second thought til only a few years ago, an age where it didn't even matter anymore, hahaha, go figure.

I am sure I have had a few of these moments, but none come to mind. Although I have one from another person. I was hanging out with him and he mentioned "Coldstone" ice cream, something the nearby Tim Hortons (Coffee shop) had. Said they put the ice cream on a warm metal plate to soften it, then they mix stuff it and roll it into a ball and put it in a little cup, and that was the cold stone. I realized as mine was being made that he was wrong and that the "Hot metal plate" was in fact freezing cold, and was made of stone, and that the ball of ice cream was not the "coldstone" this was. It took him a moment to think about it, but the reaction was kind of funny.

today an internet meme told me that ekans was snake spelled backwards. I'm blown away that I never figured that out for myself :U
