I doubt Mike would go into detail about how he dumped Lucy from his life, nor do I think Sandy would ask. She'd be contented enough to learn that Mike ended his friendship with Lucy, because that's what's important to her: that Mike isn't being abused anymore.

Looking at the new page, it's all starting to make sense. Sandy heard that Mike was a bit down, lately? I wonder where she heard that from...I think probably Lucy. Anonymously, most likely (though I can't say that for sure). Let's recall Chapter 68: December. Page 34, just following Mike telling Lucy he hated her and him leaving her alone in his room.

Lucy seems to look at the phone, and it's implied she does something with it. I postulate that Lucy sent a distress signal to Sandy of some sort. I mean, it'd make sense...and really, would Sandy have possibly heard about Mike being depressed lately from somewhere else? I guess MAYBE Daisy, but we have not been shown any reason to believe that she and Sandy have gotten back to touch with each other, despite Daisy being upset that she didn't invite her to the modeling thing. And I don't think Mike has acted "a bit down" towards anyone EXCEPT Lucy.

Just my thoughts. :P

Well, shipping is described as the belief that two characters, fictional or non-fictional, are in an intimate relationship, have romantic feelings that could potentially lead to a relationship, or have another form of less intimate relationship. I believe NintendoSegaSonyGuy is onto something here. Mike's iPhone is shown fairly prominently on pages 33 and 34 of "December", and then isn't referred to again, so it serves as a Chekhov's gun of sorts. And I think its meaning may now be clear: Lucy sent a message of some sort to Sandy using Mike's iPhone, hence this is how Sandy knows Mike hasn't been in the best of moods lately. This might signify that Lucy did indeed take heed of Augustus' words, withdrawing from Mike and just wanting him to be happy in his existing relationship with Sandy. This would mean that Lucy was the better person in the breakup of the friendship, since Mike chose to get his passive-aggressive revenge by implying that Lucy would be left all alone sans friends.

Sandy's dialogue in the fifth panel confused me at first, since it seemed like she was talking to more than one person ("you're all fine"). Seems like she's about to kiss Mike though, so he'll definitely be more than fine for a little while!

For what she said "I just heard you were a little down lately" it seems like someone else told her, she would have said it in another way if she got that from Mike's phone. If Lucy sent messages to Sandy (like some people think) from another phone, wouldn't it be illogic that she trusts in an unknown number sending her a message and talking about her boyfriend? Instead, that would be creepy. If Lucy told Sandy it was her, would she trust her knowing she was that agressive friend that always hurt him?

Unless it was Lucy posing as Daisy: an old friend, Mike's friend and a credible reason to have her phone number if Lucy had just stolen it. Lucy remembers those times well enough to know Daisy would have been friends with Sandy, so it's a pretty interesting theory.

My initial thought was that Lucy would've used Mike's phone, since it was quite conveniently lying there on his bed. Though I grant that it's entirely possible she simply copied down Sandy's phone number from Mike's contact list, and then later sent a message to Sandy using some other phone. I don't know if Lucy herself owns a mobile phone, though she could've easily borrowed a phone from a family member, or even from David.

I have no idea if Lucy would've signed her own name, or simply passed on a message under the guise of being a friend. But from what Sandy said ("I just heard you were a little down lately"), this would seem to imply that Sandy's knowledge didn't come directly from Mike himself, and she's well aware of that.

Page 29 of "December". Yes, you're right, Lucy did say it first, albeit she wasn't being vindictive, but rather was still looking to him as a support crutch. So in some respects, there are shades of grey. Lucy was awful to treat Mike the way she did as a friend, but in the end she realized what she'd done, withdrew from him, and allowed him to be happy with Sandy. Mike on the other hand was right to finally stand up for himself, be honest with Lucy, and break things off with her. Yet in the end he succumbed to typical teenage pettiness, being all passive-aggressive and telling her no one could love her and implying she'd be left all alone.

Well, I suppose it is emotional blackmail, in that Lucy was still trying to cling to the one person she believed was her pillar of support, and she wanted Mike to stick around so she could still remain near him and not feel that she was all alone. Though she needn't have worried on that last point: Lucy has friends still, and Paulo's definitely got her back, even if he'd get all white-knighty for her without knowing the full story.

According to the last relationship chart (which is still relevant), Sue and Sandy used to be friends (not as close as Daisy was to Sandy though). Sue wouldn't know Sandy's phone number now though, any more than Daisy would. And Sandy would also probably not really remember Sue either, because she's flaky like that.

Exactly. I remember third grade, I had many friends and now I can't remember half of them. Yeah some I might have even considered "best friends" at the time. It's nothing too flaky, just the brain not holding on to unimportant information. (No offense Dasiy.)

So Mike thinks that Lucy said something bad, which will lead to inquiries by Sandy, which will uncover all the underlying drama caused by their relationship that Mike has probably conveniently avoided when texting.
Then Sandy will break up with him for the sake of the end of the drama, and he will blame Lucy for the breakup.

This I know for sure, which was generated through years of research from TV Tropes and Korean Dramas, and no emotions influenced this prediction:
Mike and Lucy will have a fight, Mike will blame her, she will say that it's because he overreacted, and this fight is at Lucy's house, which is empty, except for them. Then panels 8-16 of this comic will happen.

Not to mention Lucy told a big ol' lie pretty much, because when she talked about how Mike seemed down he pretty much told her he was only annoyed/bothered/etc around her, so he actually doesn't have any issues.

Though I think yes, he is overreacting some, you have to look at it from his viewpoint-Lucy was someone he was abused by for YEARS and he was finally able to confront her and seemingly get her out of his life, and now she has come right back around like the typical parasite he views her as-she just won't stay out of his life. How dare Lucy do the only thing she could think of in a desperate attempt to selflessly help Mike. She didn't read texts, just sent a message to Sandy. A sweet message. She knows he needs this. She's honestly worried about him.

Also, Carma, Lucy didn't lie. She knows Mike was still pretty upset about more than just her; even if that was all, as they're ending their long term relationship. It's going to have repercussions no matter what Mike thinks.

I agree their realtionship's not going to end, though. That would be silly

I'm not quite sure I like this page. It seems almost unrealistic; why would someone react that way? Especially considering his situation; i.e finally seeing Sandy a few minutes ago. I'll forgive it if he blows it off in the next page instead of indulging Sandy in his dislike of Lucy, but right now he is being almost mindbogglingly dumb.

I realize that, as the reader, we do know things Mike himself might not know, and Lucy's intentions might not be quite so clear to him as it is to us, but the timing alone is enough to make this a terrible decision on his part. Again, he's finally met Sandy and minutes into the conversation he is already freaking out about another girl.

Does anyone really do this? Mike never came across as this socially inept to me.

Yes, good intentions don't always lead to good results. No matter how friendly you are with other persons, you don't invade their privacy like that... Well to be fair Lucy wasn't in her best mental state and right now she views herself has the source of all pain for her friends. I don't try to defend Lucy here, what she did was wrong. But we can't ask from a teenager filled with negative emotions to think straigh, can we?

Regarding Mike I think that he overreacts to... like everything? I mean dude you got abused by a "over emotional girl" when your friends around you have more serious problems. Whit this I don't say that Mike didn't have his share of suffering; suffering is the same for all of us, sometimes stronger, sometimes weaker. It always takes all of our attention. The thing is, that for a group of friends is rare to see someone like Mike who is not giving much fucks about his friends lives... I don't mean that he must invade their privacy or play the superhero. Yet he has been growing apart from the group slowy...
When he say to Lucy that no one need her and that no one is going to be by her side, while that might be true (If she keeps with that behavior) it also sounds like he was saying it to hymself.

I agree on this to some point, he can freak out and be worried about that LATER.
He is now with the person that he loves, he should be thinking in to make her happy and ignore for now anything related to Lucy, I mean, he is the one making his own pain grow... If he don't let things go he will be suffering even more.
