Smegma.

Seeing the snowball hit Mike, Lucy is the first character that jumps to mind. Yet Lucy said earlier that she'd leave Mike alone, and after the events of "December" I couldn't really see her turn around and suddenly be so cavalier with Mike again.

As was suggested above, it could be Yashy wanting Flea to talk to Mom. Yashy has surely noticed the change in Lucy's behaviour as of late. Another possibility might be Lily, she can be playful sometimes. I don't think it would be Paulo, at least not in terms of wanting to wring the story out of Mike. Too few pages left in this chapter for an extended conversation.

Regardless, Mike doesn't seem quite ready yet to talk to Lucy. Perhaps he needs to deal with his feelings first.

Also, yeah, Mike's see-through neck in panel four, but that's been noted. :P

Maybe it was Jasmine. I bet that'd make Ace die happy.

I have too many things to do to die. However I would giggle like a schoolgirl.

Well, the pairing is looking less crack by the minute.

Because it's slightly different from semen and still carries the same amount or more shock value, probably because Smegma even sounds sticky.

The fun ended with Vigtyr's post. Less about Smegma and more about the comic guys.

You don't publish a dictionary of words you despise, Taeshi, so I can't carry it around. :|

That word is exactly the same in my language. It carries just so awful a concept that not all cultures took the pain to invent a term to describe it. :nope:

New culture education time!
American Smegma or "dick cheese" is the dead skin cells that collect on a man's penis and balls and somewhere else on a lady but I've never asked because I'd probably dump the girl the moment I found out her body does that.

THAT SAID:

Probably not Sam. He would sucker punch like a faggot to start the fight. Jordan wouldn't fight because he's a midget. COULD BE LUCY if she's left her fucking room finally. If so, that panel is a good callback to a time long long ago and far away that I'm too fucking lazy to find find it yourself nigger

@ Lackluster: Vigtyr always does jokes like that, hiding the punchline behind a spoiler. He think it's fucking hilarious.

Jordan is shorter than Paulo, but wouldn't that make him close to the same height as Mike? Also Jordan plays basketball, so he's athletic, and he's quite competitive too.

Still, Mike had turned away from the house, so I doubt it was Jordan who threw the snowball. And as for Sam, he doesn't seem the type to be throwing snowballs.
  • #709

Could just be a snowman.
Throwing his snowballs!

Oh God why did I have to say it?
  • #710

It couldn't be Sam, Sam would throw a rock. :P
  • #711

Or a snowball full of nails and broken glass! Next few pages are dedicated to Mike going to the hospital, forgetting he promised to be nice to Lucy and the fun starts all over again! 8-D

I'm fairly sure he meant the word means the same thing in his native language.

Which I wouldn't doubt. It's originally Greek anyway.

I'm pretty sure it didn't matter what I meant, the "culture time" would have struck us anyway. Actually I kept myself from complaining about the unrequested definition because I have a feeling that it would only lead to more lectures about abhorable words 8-D

Probably taking care of Lucy and trying to cheer her up. Shes probably mildly upset or at least disappointed in Mike.
  • #719

Man, talk about bittersweet... panel 3 is hilarious, but from there onward it's an unstoppable slide down to hell! Lily's face in the last panel is.. not like she is blaming him, not like she is angry.. it is just so .. bitter.

I'm glad Lucy has Lily to take care of her. Imagine being in her place, stuck inside the snowman, not wanting to see him, not wanting to be seen. A crazy impulse to just run away the moment he takes another step forward...
  • #720

AH MAN shit's going to go down.
Looks like Lily's going to offer some plot advancing advice like the tool she is.
Actually though this is going to be an interesting next few updates. Wonder what this is going to end with.
  • #721

I knew it! anyway, I hope he can outrun her brothers.
  • #722

I hope Mike makes the right choice
  • #723

This is going to be quite awkward between Mike and Lily, the latter certainly has something to say to the former.

Wherever this goes, Mike should at least listen to what Lily has to say.
  • #724

Does he honestly think an apology will fix everything? The cat's out of the bag Mike. You've burned that bridge. But of course, can't expect you to think anything through for yourself, after all, it was Sandy who told you to make Lucy stop, and it was Sandy who told you to apologize.

Ah, so it was indeed Yashy who threw the snowball. She's awfully excited to see Flea again, isn't she? XD Too bad she's completely ignorant of the whole Mike/Sandy thing (and not least because Lucy won't tell her).

Seems like Lucy covered herself with snow or jumped behind a bush in order to avoid Mike. Not a very effective strategy, what with Yashy right there to draw attention to her. Still, it does show that she is trying to keep out of Mike's way.

Lily seems almost sad or disappointed with Mike. I wonder if she'll tell Mike to leave Lucy alone for the time being, that now isn't the right time to talk to her. Some separation may well be good for both of them. Mike still does have a promise to keep to Sandy, but he can carry it out later, when Lucy is more stable emotionally. Actually, this might set up a time skip very nicely, if it weren't for the fact that the school play will be occurring soon.

I agree with Vigtyr. You can tell Mike's heart truly isn't into a heartfelt nor meaningful apology. Whenever he does the deep sigh and index/middle finger-to-forehead combo gesture, you can tell he is only acting out of frustration. I'm sure he just wants to be a good boyfriend and keep his promise, but he could do it in a more tactful way.
  • #727

Lily is their mom now because Lucy done depressed herself into retardation.

GOD I HOPE IT ALL WORKS OUT OKAY.
Mike... Mike, Mike, Mike. GOD DAMMIT! Even now, you can't see how much you've hurt her? Jesus, you need a reality check. Have you not seen any movies at all? Being the bad guy towards someone who was the bad guy does not make you a good guy.

Especially since Lucy just wants to be better.

Yes she did go too far with the "Tender Confession" then rebound to "BANG ME PAULO" but you went much farther!...

Please do the right thing. I don't want to hate you... D:
  • #729

Can you honestly right such a wrong? He's told her he's always hated her. That he's never liked her as a friend, and only put up with her because of their friends. I honestly can't see things going back to normal between them after that. An apology is never going to remove that elephant in the room.

Things certainly won't be set aright between Mike and Lucy in such a short period of time.

Wait twelve months, and then we'll see.

When DO we get to see Princess Pity-Party Lucy again?

Just make the comic Mike-centric for six months to torture Lucy fans. And then Lucy-centric for six months for everyone who enjoys a wide spectrum of self-pity.

Real time or BCB time?

There really isn't that much of a difference between the two. Although it sometimes goes way out of sync, like with the Summer Arc. The recent chapters are throwing it out of sync again as well.

Ya, I suppose there isn't that much of a time gap. I mean, August 2012 compared to December 2009.

That'd be cool to see some more Mike-centric chapters. I think having readers see things more from his perspective might alleviate some of the scorn and ridicule he has been receiving from unforgiving readers.

A movie which, in the comic, would be set more than 4½ years in the future. Oh boy, wonder what Augustus is doing in 2012!

Purin said:

BCB time, of course. :P I think Mike and Lucy might be friends again by this point of junior year. But first they'll have to let water pass under the bridge, and wash away all the drama and conflicts of the past.

Comic time has not been in sync with real time since the end of chapter 41, "Moving On".
  • #738

Man every time I remember this comic is really set a few years ago I just think about how the characters would be the same age as me now. I mean hell wait till they have a few more years under their belts and have to deal with real problems like rent, college tuition, and bills. These problems are gonna seem SOOOOOOOOO shallow just a few years down the road.

Good. I'm very glad Mike is not going to rebuild bridges. Some need to stay burned

Good on you Lily. Lucy needs to just wallow in her own self-pity and we'll all be smiles.

The first page in the chapter that isn't a cliff hanger-hooray!
  • #742

Could it possibly be that Lily is nothing else that Michael's brain, popped out of his thick head long ago by one of Lucy's mighty puches? Would explain quite a bit.. XD
  • #743

Mike should have just punted her and went over to talk to Lucy anyways.

I could stare at panel 3 for hours.
Such few, simple, blunt words, yet from Lily, who has always been nice to anyone.
When Sandy scolded him he grumbled back, probably thinking "Hah, you're too nice to Lucy, you don't really know her", but this time he knew better than to retort.

One last page. Maybe the three pensive kittens in it?
  • #745

This shows that Mike has enough willpower to listen to Lily. Things need to cool down a little bit
  • #746

Mike's timing couldn't have been any worse. One can only hope that this event won't reset the things Lucy's done up to this point.

And once again Mike has to have someone tell him what to do.
  • #747

Things have been really messed up. Honestly I see no viable way to fix this anymore. Lucy can pretend to be fine and play along with being friends with Mike after things cool off a bit, but in her head she'll always know he hurt her and never trust him again. This could end well or not so well for Lucy's mental state depending on how strong she is.

She can either realize she doesn't need anyone to be her best friend and that she can be her own person and stand up for herself and reach out to others on her own to start her own healing process or she can continue to freak out and try to isolate herself from everyone because she feels there is no one she can trust to be her friend/ try to find someone else to latch on to like a wet ball of fur, now with even more issues.

As for Mike, I honestly think he is just now realizing "Oh hey, I hurt Lucy more than I thought." Even he most likely overestimated Lucy's mental strength. When you project yourself as stronger than you are, even those who know you most are going to judge you by that because that's what they see. Plus, Mike pretty much did that whole spiel with Lucy then focused on Sandy. For him it was over so there was no reason to dwell on it, which actually happens a lot in many relationships. He's just now starting to wake up from sandy-land and go "oh...well uh...." although he will probably try to ignore this and pass it off as not his problem. He already feels very put upon and is not likely to want to deal with any Lucy-angst when he feels he has enough of his own.

This has been a thirty second tl;dr analysis. I applaud anyone who reads the whole thing. :I

I read the whole thing and there were good points, but I think there are still ways to fix this. I mean Mike now, however late, acknowledges that he was in the wrong here. (Although I think it MAY have just been Sandy's underlining command to make things better instilled inside his mind CAUSE GODDAMN MIKE CAn"T THINK FOR HIMSELF) Even so now that he knows and feels bad there are always ways to build the bridge again...

It'll never be the same, GOD I wish that it could be the same, but I know it probably won't happen. Since saving Lucy from possible death and giving your own life is pretty much a common occurance Taeshi can't use that as a backboard to bounce Lucy back onto the Mike train (Or maybe she can if Mike gets severely injured enough... or if Lucy tries to hurt herself and Mike intervenes in a very "white knight" fashion...) But I'm still pretty sure Mike is a train with people jostling each other for a place to be conductor, and he's not in the fight. >:( So he could very well hurt Lucy again because he has proven that he can do it just because someone told him to...

I just hope they can stop this coldness between each other now. D:

Expect it's just one person after the other TELLING WHAT TO DO. I wish Mike could think for himself, cause then I would honestly believe that He and Lucy would be okay again.

Regardless of him even trying to talk to Lucy, I think he has done too much damage. There comes a point when you just stop trusting a person, you may forgive them, but you do so with the knowledge and expectation that they will hurt you again if you let them, and therefore take precaution against it. Lucy can't trust Mike again.
