RIP Lonesome George.
this is now a mothafreaken turtle appreciation chat
because turtles/tortoises are the best and they were my favourite animal prior to adoring cats. I used to own them when I was a child and they are hardcore AND WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT OUR MANY POTENTIAL TURTLE EXPERIENCES
which turtle has touched your heart
let's do it for lonesome george

R.I.P last of his species. Some people say “hey a turtle died, big deal”. But what we witnessed was the extinction of a specie. Maybe we didn’t saw the Do-do bird, but at least we can tell our grandchild…or the kids that hang around our lawn “I was alive when the last of the giant turtles was alive”. They may call us cranky and old bags, but we can be proud to yell at them to get the hell out of our lawn because we witnessed something little, yet epic.
TurtlexLonesome George pic here, quick sketch. Nothing else.
Oh yeah, turtle belongs to Veronica “Taeshi” Vera Taeshi Diary

May Lonesome George rest in piece.
My Turtle Experience:
When i was younger i went to the beach, i saw baby turtles flat like panckes by cars... but i saw one baby turtle crawling , and i pick and put it in the ocean.
heh, bit cliche, but true.

The family is quite peculiar and most certainly proud, and I would love to encounter a member thereof, as it were, face to face. For now, though, it is important that we try to conserve the remaining four species. Hopefully, though, Lonesome George will not become the panda. ^_^

Genetic bottle-neck and captivity will leave these guys at a disadvantage in the wild. Maybe it's better help to protect the species of giant tortoises that have yet to reach that tipping point?

This is probably the only turtle i'd consider to be kind of cool, other than that i don't see whats so special about them.

It does, to a degree, look like the Koopa Troopas that you meet at the lower castle levels of Mario games.
However, I need to question the notion that there is nothing special about the chelonian race. They are quite immensely special. ^_^
