I'm a little surprised by the ending of this short chapter, to tell the truth.
We have seen a very supportive Paulo, not even suggesting that she could have finished earlier or anything, and a sweet Jasmine, who would cut her training session shorter (well, she actually was exhausted anyway)to hang out with her boyfriend... But then in the "pillow talk" chapter their attitude will be quite the opposite.
I guess it's just the normal highs-and-lows any relationship has to face from time to time to grow stronger.
  • #53

It doesn't grow stronger. It has a mandatory end date at graduation, and it'll probably end before that since it's already creaking under pressure from Jasmine.
  • #54

Come on Jerk, the intermissin comes after they have pretty much just got together, allow it to at least have an arc with a bit of a climbing portion :/

The storyline is set after "Back and Forth" but before "Mischief Night", so yes, it's the early stages of Paulo and Jasmine's relationship. Jasmine is indeed making efforts to spend time with her boyfriend here, but apparently it still wasn't enough, judging from Paulo's discontent at the beginning of "Carry Me". Of course, Jasmine did then talk to her dad and convince him drop her violin lessons, thus freeing up at least one afternoon a week. But is that enough? I don't know. She still seemed fairly busy with activities through "Piece of Cake", and even had to leave early from making the snowman even though she was on school vacation.

Which leads me to wonder: why all the activities? Doubtless some of them she enjoys, while others seem to be imposed (the violin lessons, for example). Regardless, if she is generally happy participating in most of these activities, then I'd say she doesn't really have time for a boyfriend. Hence she should perhaps reconsider her relationship with Paulo, as it's not fair to him to have a girlfriend who's unavailable a lot. Relationships work best when both people make sufficient time for each other.

(And that's not even considering the tug of Lucy on Paulo's mind.)
  • #56

Jasmine has to do so much cause she has stereotypical Asian parents. Also she's just that kind of girl, come on you all knew one in high school, the girl who did EVERYTHING and was still nice and shit.
  • #57

I doubt giving up violin would only free one afternoon a week. If she was devoting so little time to it, either she is a genious or it was a waste of time to begin with. :smirk:

I was confused for a second when it said "End" on the bottom cause there were 3 more pages left.

Then I read Taeshi's comment on the main page so now I'm good!

"HAHAHAHAHA Lucy you waterphobic bitch " - Taeshi

I would like to see this manifest in the comic, in some way.
  • #62

I love how Mike's all NOPE leaning away from her.

I'm pretty sure she was impaled on his sudden erection.

I really like everything about this comic already, the over the top facial expressions, the color, everything it just fantastic.

When does this take place again?

The description said:

It's a silly little chapter called "Turning Tides" and it'll go right before Back and Forth.

  • #67

This happens before "Back and Forth", which means not long after Lucy has confessed to Michael, but before Paulo gets to know Jasmine.
I'm not sure if this is right before B&F, meaning that also comes after Lucy's rebound with Paulo, but it is very likely so. 8-)

Man, Daisy is sure worried about her curls. Also, I like how Paulo just unilaterally declared a water gun battle. Does Abbey even have a water gun? I guess playful violence is a-okay with him. :smirk:

If Mike joins Daisy's team, does that mean Lucy would join Paulo's? She definitely wouldn't shy away from a little sprinkle, that's for sure.

Taeshi said:

This time it's in the coloured style, to match the only other intermission that'll appear in Volume Two (Sensible Precautions).

"Sensible Precautions" is not marked as an intermission in the archives (it is chapter 57).

Also, I presume that this intermission will take the place of "Sayonara, Kizuna the Dog"?

Well then, Taeshi must've done quite a bit of editing to remove not only Kizuna, but also Tess, McCain, Carter, Carson, Liam, Suri, Fiona, Kou, Jack and Matt from Volume Two. ^_^

also since i posted here i might as well put the page
  • #74

Ooo, right in the noggin.

Plus I'm sure Lucy's fear of water only applies to LARGE bodies of water. I'll bet Daisy's team wipes the floor with Paulo and David.

EDIT: Is David turning into Leeroy Jenkins?

Lucy all wet.

Sometimes I don't feel like Paulo and I are thinking the same thing...
  • #76

I have a feeling that the chapter could be just a re imagined "Call Me Maybe" music video. With Lucy as Jepsen.

Paulo's not really thinking this through, is he? He's assuming Lucy would faint over a mere squirt of water, when she gets way more than that in her morning shower. Yeah, he's probably gonna have his ass handed to him in the ensuing skirmish. This may be over rather quickly. Or at least, only one page remains for us to see of this preview. Unless it's actually part of a longer intermission, and the rest is book-only?

I swear Taeshi must be teasing us about Paulo being mindful of Mike. :D The only thing I can think of is that he's allowing Lucy to remain with Mike instead of splitting the two up to make the teams equal. After all, Paulo is grudgingly Mike×Lucy at this point, because he knows Lucy is infatuated with Mike and so he thinks he has no chance with her at all. Although he really should remember (since Lucy told him) that Mike was starting to hate her. Or maybe Paulo's intention is to attack Lucy on purpose so that Mike can 'save' her again and bring the two a little closer? Yeah, that'd definitely be short-sighted of him...

Only three or so fan characters, eh? Let's see which ones:

  • Obviously Tess remains in the story for now, as does McCain (although he only appears in a couple of scenes in Volume Two).

  • Carter is rather important in "In the End", and also appears in "Mischief Night".

  • Kizuna would be fairly troublesome to remove, given that she appears in several panels in "A Distance Apart" and "Unrequited". Still, if you managed to excise her without creating any glaring holes, then kudos to you, although I'd be interested in seeing how you handled the last panel of this page.

  • "Mischief Night" as a whole would be troublesome also, given there's three whole pages of Carson, albeit a Carson making his permanent exit from BCB. Carter and Liam also make cameos, and there's a solid half-page of Kevin, by which I mean Rukral's fan character. (The other two kids I assume are based on actual people rather than being fan characters.)

So if it is to be "three or so", I will venture to guess that Tess, McCain, Carter and Carson are the fan characters that will still appear in Volume Two, assuming all the rest will get replaced by original characters and/or cameos of actual people.

Also, I forgot to mark Jenny (Sandy's friend) as a fan character. So yeah, the list just grows.

Maybe Paulo just gave Michael a loaded gun. If it was me I'd have given him an empty one XD
(The gun color doesn't count as courtesy, it just serves the purpose of telling the loaded guns from the empty ones!)
  • #80

I was thinking more along the lines that he made sure Lucy and Michael were on the same team to prevent the competitive nature they have against each other breaking them further apart and instead bring them closer together to get David and himself, similar to Wackos line of thought in that regards

Or Taeshi could be messing with us to see what reasoning we think up when really he just wants to see her wet
  • #81

It didn't appear that Paulo was too concerned about Daisy's attempt to recruit reinforcements for her team, based on his insinuation that Lucy would go down easy. It just seems to make more sense that Paulo is acting on competitive instinct that he and David can take them all on rather than being mindful of the Mike and Lucy situation at that current point in time. On the other hand, the color coordination of the squirt guns seems rather coincidental, if not mindful of Paulo.

...You're actually on the right track there.

Note that Paulo's water gun is orange, the same as the colour of his fur. And Lucy has a white water gun to match her fur. Yet Mike has a water gun that is green, to match the colour of his eyes.

Seven Minutes in Heaven said:

Three: Mike’s eyes were way greener than they had any right to be.

Seven Minutes in Heaven said:

There were two things that kept Paulo from sleeping soundly at night.

One was Daisy’s looks and the other was the way he felt like the biggest jerk in the world after closing the door to Mike's house, just standing there, and not going back in to tell him that he’d never forgive Mike for having such amazingly green eyes.

Dammit, this is actually Paulo×Mike. Being mindful of Mike, indeed!
  • #83

Which is why Paulo threw the gun at Mike's face so he could break his trance on those brilliant green eyes.
  • #84

The last page of this will be full of MikexPaulo make outs cause that's all this whole comic has been leading up to, the solidification of the One True Pair. :-*

Ok now, when I load this page the browser lingers for a couple seconds on the first comment of the page, and then takes me quickly down to the final panel.... D:
Just try it.

Is it just me or did her pistol change colour?

Those are some pretty awesome water pistols.

It's not just you. Lucy now has a purple water gun. I do believe Taeshi is now suggesting Lucy×Jessica. :smirk:

As expected, Paulo got his ass handed to him. Hope he enjoys fellating Lucy's gun. ;)

What the fuck did Lucy shove into Paulo's mouth (before the purple water gun)? It looks like a bone. And why did the water gun change colors?

She didn't shove anything in his mouth, it's her squeezing around his mouth/lips so that they protrude in an old school cartoony-way.

It's an intermission comic, it doesn't have to be as realistic. In this case, the purple stands for Jessica, or more specifically, Lucy×Jessica.
